EVERY DAY MATTERS If your child is or will be away, please contact the school to give a reason for the absence.

Missing 1 day a fortnight =Missing more than a year of learning over 12 years!

Mrs MacGregor

Mrs MacGregor has begun her maternity leave slightly early so I am now teaching the Year 2/3/4 class. I would like to congratulate Mrs MacGregor on the wonderful job she has done teaching our students over the last two years and we hope she will visit us for show and tell with baby! As I am now on class, if you would like to speak to me about a non-urgent matter please make an appointment for before or after school.

School Holidays With school holidays starting next week, please keep an eye out for after-hours crime in our school. If you see anything suspicious, please call School Watch on 13 17 88.

A reminder also that the school grounds are out of bounds to all over the holidays and after school hours, unless otherwise organised with Admin.

I wish you all a safe and happy Easter Break and look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday, 17

th April.

Have a great week.

Mrs Elizabeth Jacobson

YEAR P/1/2 CLASS Hi families,

We’ve nearly made it through the term! Well done to those students who have been working hard to earn those last minute Gotchas – Rewards Day is looming!

In English students have been enjoying comparing the original version of “The Three Little Pigs” to “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs”, also known as the wolf’s version. It’s been a fun way to learn about perspectives. Before the end of this unit we will compare two other fairytales told from different perspectives.

In Maths we have spent a lot of time on basic addition and subtraction facts. We have also been concentrating on tally marks, data and bar graphs which fits in nicely with our Technology unit, since Part B requires students to use a software to display data.

Our Health and Science units are complete – we finished up our science unit on the water cycle with an experiment on capillary action. The water travelled through the paper towel to create a lovely rainbow and some new colours! Check it out on the Depot Hill State School Facebook page for some more photos.

Our Technology and HASS units will continue for the full semester but we have completed Parts A and B for both units, so next term we will move on to Part C. For Technology this means writing a sequence of steps and algorithms and for HASS this means looking at how our daily lives have changed over time.

On Thursday Drew kept us all entertained with his wonderful harmonica playing – visit the Depot Hill State School Facebook page to see him in action. Thanks Drew!

On Friday students worked on their Easter bonnets in preparation for the Easter Parade next Wednesday. They will continue working on them on Monday.

As the term draws to a close I would like to thank everyone for their hard work this term! I hope you all have a restful holiday and I look forward to seeing you all in Term 2!

Miss Katie Black

YEAR 5/6 CLASS Hi Families,

Welcome to week 10! Only 3 more days of the first term to go. Can you believe we’ve made it through the whole first term? Unfortunately we were rained out in Oztag again.

Congratulations to all students in the 5/6 classroom that get to also go to the Dinosaur Park on Thursday. Children will need to bring, togs, towel, thongs and a change of clothes.

In English, we’re looking at conflicts and sentence structure. This will continue into the first week of next term as a reminder to students on what we learnt. I have noticed students are getting a lot better at knowing what a conflict is and how to write it.

In Maths, we are having a revision week of things we’ve learnt over the term and how we implement these strategies again. We will also focus on place value with internal zeros.

I would like to congratulate the students on how much growth has happened in the past term! We are seeing impressive gains across the board in 5/6.

I hope you have a wonderful break and continue to allow your child to read and complete times tables. We start back at school on Tuesday the 17

th of April. Look

forward to seeing you then.

Have a wonderful week,

Ms Jessica Born

SKOOL LOOP Have you downloaded the Skool Loop app? This app allows parents to view the newsletter, receive notifications from school regarding events and notices, receive instant school messages when times of events may change, advise school of student absences and eventually send permission slips for school excursions.

PLAYGROUP Playgroup is run in the EEC each Friday morning from 9.00-11.15. If you have a preschool aged child please join us for some fun and a chance to meet other parents. You do not need to be a parent from Depot Hill School to be involved. The cost is a donation of a gold coin to go towards purchasing arts and craft items. Please bring a plate to share.

COLES Depot Hill State School is participating in the Coles Sports for Schools and we are asking families and their friends to please collect the vouchers and then bring the vouchers to school and place them in the bin provided at the office. When the program ends, our school can exchange those vouchers towards sporting equipment to encourage all kids to get healthy and active at school. Thank-you in advance for supporting our wonderful school.

P&C Easter Raffle We are currently running an Easter Raffle. 1

st prize is a large hamper, 2

nd

prize a medium hamper and 3rd

prize is a small hamper. Tickets cost $1 each. The raffle will be drawn on the 28

March on parade. Please return tickets and funds raised by TODAY.

Tuckshop Due to school finishing on Thursday this week, there will be no tuckshop this Friday. The P&C would like to advise that there has been some orders submitted requesting fruit and unfortunately we do not have fruit on our menu. If you require a Tuckshop Menu, please see the office for a copy.

We would also like to thank all of our fabulous Tuckshop volunteers for all of their time and effort, as well as the parents for their ongoing support.

BREAKFAST CLUB Our Breakfast Club continues each and every day. We are looking for parents to help out with cooking the toast each morning. This means that our Teacher Aides can then work with the students in areas that they need help.
