This term is a nine-week term. School will end on the 1 st of December. ASSEMBLY: Our first assembly for the term is scheduled for Thursday the 19 th of October from 12:00-1:00pm. Our theme for the assembly is Subjects. If you have time available please come and join us. SENIOR CAMP- BRISBANE: I am now finalizing activities for the school camp. The camp will be from 13-19 November (week 7). Twelve students have confirmed to travel. For parents who still have consent forms to be returned please do this soonest! I have sent out reminders via email and in hardcopy with your children. For planning and booking purposes I have to use a firm deadline: Friday 20 October. Unfortunately, I cannot accept any more forms after that date. Please do not hesitate to come and see me this week if you have any other questions. Students who are not travelling will have classes as usual for the week. WELCOME LETTERS /TERM PLANNERS: All term planners and welcome newsletters have now been sent out. If you have not received your child’s term planners please see their teacher or come and see the Curriculum Head Mrs Ghabiliha and she can organise a copy for you. LIBRARY BOOKS: Could all parents please have a look at their homes for any library books that belong to the school and have them returned tomorrow. TUMMY BUG/COLD AND FLU: Please be reminded that there is a tummy/cold and flu bug going around Goroka and a few of our students including teachers have been down with this. If you think your child is ill, please keep him/her at home so they can recover well and avoid passing it on to other students. MUSIC-MR KAFARE: The music schedule for all students has now been set. An important note of clarification: AISPNG has hired Mr Kafare to offer one day per week (Thursday) music lessons to our classes as part of our AISPNG curriculum. All lessons that the school is offering are supervised by our teachers. Considering the demand for music lessons in the community, and to continue on previous years availability of private music lessons offered by Mr Kafare, the school saw an opportunity to support a community service and make available the school as a teaching venue. This is intended to give parents the option to enroll their kids in private music lessons with Mr. Kafare at a convenient location and a convenient time. The school can unfortunately not be made available on the weekends for this purpose. This means the school is merely offering its classroom and instruments to support these music lessons. We can however not allocate AISPNG teaching staff to supervise these lessons. The option to enroll your child/children in these music lessons are after class on Monday, Thursday and Friday. The school has no involvement in the fees and parents can pay Mr Kafare directly or as per arrangement with him. If you have any questions on private music lessons please see Mr Kafare or call him on his mobile: 71861544. AISPNG has decided to release a consent form for parents to sign to ensure everyone who opts for these music lessons is aware of the organizational structure of these lessons and the fact there is no AISPNG teaching staff involvement. BOARDING SCHOOLS: For students who are planning to leave next year for boarding school overseas; this is a final call to all parents to hand in their children’s application forms. Officially we are now passed application deadlines. If you still need some time and need help or advice prior to deciding if and where to send your kids, please come and see me soonest. SPORTS UPDATE: This term students will be doing athletics. I am now finalizing dates with NSI on when we can use their premises for practice. The athletics Carnival will be scheduled over two days. Field events will take place on Thursday the 23 rd of November and Track events on Friday the 24 th of November. Presentations of the winning team and Sports boy and girl of the year will be presented after the track events. I would need parents as volunteers to assist the event as marshals and scorers for the day. If you think you can volunteer please come and see me. EARLY LEARNING PLAYSCHOOL: As there will be no year 9 next year. We will reintroduce playschool in 2018. If you know of anyone interested let them know to come visit the school to enroll for next year. We can only enroll 12 playschool students for next year and placing will be on a first-come- first-serve basis. CHRIS CRINGLE: At the end of the year students will buy a present for their secret friend. This will be put under the Christmas trees in their classrooms and will get to exchange these gifts on the last day of school. SANTA CLAUS: Depending on how busy Santa is he is scheduled to visit students on Thursday evening (venue to be confirmed) the 30 th of November. On the night students will also do carols by candle light. HOSPITAL VISIT: Keeping up a school tradition, AISPNG will visit the hospital’s pediatric ward on Thursday the 30th of November.
