The program has been developed specifically for Year 11 students to educate Learner and Pro- visional drivers and the conse- quences of making good and bad driving decisions. Principal’s Update The Annual Athletics Day was a great success and everyone who turned up had an enjoy- able day. Congratulations to the P.E staff for organising the event. For the first time in many years the event was held at the school oval and it was a fabu- lous success. School wide events promote school cohesion and give stu- dents the opportunity to de- velop relationships with other students who they don’t nor- mally mix with and also with staff. What is disappointing are the students who don’t see fit to support the school in these events as they miss the oppor- tunity to develop those stronger links. We know if students feel a greater connection with the school it improves the quality of their learning environment. To all students who attended, participated and enjoyed the day well done as you contrib- uted to making Katheirne High School a better place to be. To all staff thanks for your sup- port throughout the day and particularly those staff who came dressed in house colours as it all contributed to provid- ing a great atmosphere. To everyone thank you and a reminder that next week is Week 7; Year 12’s have 7 weeks remaining of their High School life, so heads down and lets have a strong finish, Good Luck! Year 10 CampEdith FallsOver the past two weeks our Year 10 students participated in engagement camps at Edith Falls. Students were given the opportunity to work and build old and new relationships in small groups. This experience pushed the students outside their comfort zones but fun times were had by all. Thank you and congratulations to all the students and staff in-volved.

DET News Careers Expo August 24Active participation by all Se-nior Year students was the key to an enjoyable and worthwhile Careers Expo experience. The Department of Education and Training organises this yearly event which consists of local and interstate exhibitors setting up booths and providing edu-cation, employment and train-ing information. This assists the students in making informed decisions about their career development and life options as they are able to visit the dif-ferent exhibitors and ask rel-evant questions. Students who visited a minimum of 8 exhibi-tors were given the opportunity to enter their “Career Passport” into a draw for a prize. Students enjoyed the chance to explore career opportunities and path-ways?

The day started with Simon Andriessen from the NT government health depart coming and talking to the boys about the importance of washing your hands before eating, after going to the bathroom, playing outside and any other activities that can produce bacteria and make someone sick.

The boys got to meet Jerry the germ and get a close up look at how quickly germs can spread after playing football. Simon then discussed the best way to wash your hands to prevent the spread of bacteria.

Then it was off to the Apex Rotary club to play some mini golf and enjoy some homemade pizzas. The boys quickly put into practice what they had learnt earlier in the day from Simon by washing their hands before handling their food.

Once lunch was out of the way it was time to play some golf with Raymond Fordimail quickly taking a liking to the game of golf with a fantastic hole in one.

The day was enjoyed by all and big thanks goes out to Simon from the NT government for his talk on germs and the Rotary Apex club for allowing us to use the facilities.
