Sunday School Christmas
Program
December 17th, 10:15 am
Please join us as the children share the Christmas story in a unique musical way.
Saturday Practices for the children Dec. 9th and 16th, 9:30-11:00am
Beautiful Savior Choir presents “Hope”
The choir will share a Christmas Cantata on Sunday, December 10 at both the 8:00 and 10:15 services. The title, HOPE! is composed and arranged by Joel Raney.
HOPE! tells the story of Christ's birth through six choral anthems, each presented in a contemporary gospel style. There is original music throughout, but you'll also hear plenty of familiar carols infused with the gospel, soul, and even a touch of the blues. Narration and visuals will be added to hopefully enhance the musical message as well.
Beautiful Savior Choir will also be at the Chateau Retirement Center on Dec. 16th.

President’s Post Hello fellow members: Last month, I told you that we were waiting for a list of candidates for our next Settled Pastor from our North-west District. Well, we have received six names and the Call Committee has begun its evaluation. The Call Committee will be reviewing the candidates in light of the member survey we conducted last summer to en-sure we select the best match for the unique needs of Beautiful Savior. Please pray for the Call Committee. Beautiful Savior is at a crossroads. We need to find a pastor that can help us reach into the community and help us grow. We need all of our members and friends to be involved in the selection process and to support our ministry now and in the future. Please join us for a congregation meeting scheduled for December 3rd between worship services where we’ll discuss progress made by the Call Commit-tee and vote on the 2018 budget. Pastor David has been with us a whole year already! Please remember to thank him for his steadfast leadership as we work through this interim period. Have a blessed Advent Season and a Merry Christmas! Jeff Thoelke 206-579-3254 http://beautifulsaviorseatac.org

December 2017
Dear members and friends of Beautiful Savior, December 2017 is here! Ready or not, it is time once again to prepare for Christmas. There are a multitude of things that need to be prepared: putting up the outdoor Christmas lights; buying and/or making gifts and then wrapping them; sending out a family Christmas letter (or email!); cleaning and cooking and baking and travel-ing … and the list goes on! Unfortunately, many times, the most important preparation is last on our list, if it even makes it at all … that preparation is to prepare our souls in worship to once again receive Jesus, the Christ-Child, our Savior, into our heart and life. To assist us in this preparation our mid-week Advent time of food, fellowship and study/worship this year is under the theme:

Beautiful Savior
Vision Statement
Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church aspires to be a light on the hill where the Love of God is em-braced, the Word of God is proclaimed, and transforming relationships with Jesus Christ are fostered.
Kim Gibbon and Darcy Mey created a bulletin board to show our vision. It is located in the church narthex.
O Give Thanks to the Lord for He Is Good His Love Endures Forever – Psalm 107:1
During the month of November, the BSLS families gathered for a Thanksgiving Celebration which was an international potluck brunch. The fellowship was wonderful, and the food was delicious. Great Gathering!
The morning began with a few songs of greeting and Mrs. Manuela Crowley, our Zeno Math representative, was introduced as the guest speaker. Mrs. Crowley shared with adults and children the story entitled, Feast for Ten. During the story which was projected on the large scene, Mrs. Crowley was able to share with adult’s ways that they might be able to use books to encourage math at home. After eating, everyone also enjoyed
doing a Thanksgiving craft together as they shared what they were thankful for. The event continued with a time to listen to the children sing
songs, recite autumn poems and everyone got up and did the dance called, The Turkey Pokey! Pastor David closed the gathering
with a chapel message about Counting Our Blessings and the children ended the service with the songs, Give Thanks and Thank you, Thank you, Jesus! Families were given resources on how to help their child/family count their blessings and children received a book about learning how to say thank you to God through prayer.
Celebrating God’s Beautiful World Each day for a whole week the children wore assorted colors to celebrate the beautiful world God has created. Children and parents came to school dressed in blue, green, red and rainbow colors. Very fun and very festive!
“Thank you for providing a gathering where I can come and be with my child at school. I enjoy that I get to come
once a month and fellowship with others. During the Thanksgiving event I also learned some new skills about
incorporating math into my reading. I always like to hear my child sing songs and say poems. The Turkey Pokey
dance was fun too. That was very new for me. In fact, I could not stop laughing, I was having so much fun! I feel so
blessed that my child can have so much fun learning. I also am happy that my child is learning about Jesus because I
think that is important, but I don’t really know how to do this, so I am glad that there are teachers at BSLS who do.
I also like that they give me resources once a month to help me teach my child about God at home. This school is
so very good, it is helping me, and my child get ready for kindergarten and it is helping us as a family to learn more
about God. I am learning so much through my child. This makes me happy. Thank you!” -A Pre-Kindergarten Parent
Let’s Celebrate My Learning! During the month of November, parents met with the teachers for Parent-Teacher Conferences to discuss each child’s growth and set new development goals. Much growth has happened in just three months, it was great to share with each parent. Look at some of the lessons the Pre-K children have been busy learning.
I can make a bear habitat. Bears live in a
den. They sleep in the den in the winter.
I can draw a picture of myself and
write my first name.
I can use playdough tools. I can roll
playdough to make 17 spheres.
I can draw a picture and
cut with scissors.
I can act out the story of
The
3 Bears
FUN!
Each child made a bear den and
created a bear habitat. The
children also received bears that
went with the den and used them
with the math lessons. (i.e. Put two
bears inside the den and one bear
in front of the den. How many
bears in all? Etc.) Children have
been learning positional words
along with other math skills.
The children have been enjoying many books and creating art pieces that correspond with the stories.
After reading the story of the Gingerbread Man, each child made their own print of a gingerbread person.
Children have been learning the upper and lower-case letters of the alphabet along with letter sounds.
It is wonderful to listen to children use new vocabulary in their speech and begin to put letter sounds together in their reading and writing.

“I love the fact that I can come every Wednesday morning
and spend time with my child in a class setting. We have been
coming to every class and even though my child is very young
she already feels comfortable in the classroom. My life can
get very busy, but I schedule my week to make sure that I
come to this class because it is good for my child and it is very
good for me. I like interacting with the other parents and the
teachers. They give me good ideas and support. I have also
told my friend about it and she is now coming too. I am
amazed that BSLS is offering this class for free, it is very nice.
Thank you for doing this.” -A Parent of a EYC Student

You Are Invited BSLS Christmas Celebration Come Join Us For An Evening Gathering Thursday, December 14 from 6:00-7:30 Christmas Celebration In The Church
It is a joyful time of year as we celebrate our Savior’s birth. For some of our children and their families, this is the first time that they have heard the story of the birth of Jesus. Everyone is showing much interest in the Christmas story, songs and message of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. You are invited to join the BSLS families as the children will sing songs and share the Christmas message. This family experience will be the perfect way to see the school children in action, hear the Christmas message and catch some of the spirit that makes this time of year so joyful. As a Christmas gift, the children will also receive the book entitled, When Jesus Was Born… which goes along with the message that they will share at the Christmas celebration.
Following the service will be a reception – Everyone is invited to the Parish Hall for a piece of Birthday Cake for Jesus. Please mark your calendar and we hope to see you there.
