This institute does not only perform at national or regional level, ITD has conducted research and community services on a global scale. Some contributions to tackle global problems have been made from the labs of this institute, such as the countermeasures of avian flu, malaria and other tropical diseases.

ITD’s facilities are of international standards as they are ready to face

the global competition. “There are two labs with ISO 17025. There will be three more labs this year. International standardization is always aimed in a gradual manner,” explained the Director of ITD, Prof. dr. Maria Lucia Inge Lusida, M.Kes., Ph.D., Sp.MK.

Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) is putting effort to maintain a conducive academic atmosphere in the campus. The aim for this campaign is to keep the campus on its track to achieve the goal to be one of the top 500 colleges in the world. One way to reach this is to increase publications.

The Rector of UNAIR Prof. Mochammad Nasih explained that every year a target was set for the civitas academica to produce more articles in the proceedings and articles in reputable international journals. Various ways had been arranged to succeed the plan; among others were team formation to manage publications and also funding. Rector Nasih felt optimistic that the target will be accomplished. “As long as everyone gives their support, our targets are achievable. The number of our research and publication will rise sharply,” he claimed.

In a separate place, the Head of Innovation and Research Institute (LPI) UNAIR Prof. Hery Purnobasuki, M.Si., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of research and publication contribution in reaching the goal to be a world class campus.

“One of the contributions to be a world class campus is indeed from research and publication; and this is what becomes the target from central government so that UNAIR will make it to the top 500 position,” said Prof. Hery in his speech which was delivered in front of the new students of doctoral, master, specialist, and

profession programs in Garuda Mukti Hall (1/2). Prof. Hery also encouraged the new

students to play a role in succeeding UNAIR’s targets. This was because, in terms of research and publication, students and lecturers had to keep doing a good collaboration. When it happened, he added, the target to be in the top 500 campus of the world would be achieved. “There

are more than 700 new students are inaugurated today. If in the next

two until four years everyone is active doing research and publication, there will surely be a lot of output we can produce,” he suggested.

Furthermore, this professor at Faculty of Science and Technology

(FST) UNAIR also stressed the importance of a lively academic ambience since it could support the success of research and publication program. (*)

A wide smile was drawn on the face of Dinda Maulidya Putri Maharani when she was called to the stage. Not long after, a silver medal was awarded to her. This stu-dent of Faculty of Public Health successfully recorded an international achievement in South East Asia Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Championship 2018 in Kuala Lum-pur, Malaysia. The medal was given to her on Sunday evening, January 21, 2018.

This particular girl is indeed one of the talented fenc-ing athletes in Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). The silver

medal is not her first title in global level. Back in 2017, she became the best in the category of Individual Sabre Women, Kuala Lumpur Open in Malaysia. Meanwhile, in Sabre Women Test Event Asian Games 2018, she also won a silver medal. The achievement by achievement enables her to have the opportunity to fight for Indo-nesia in the event of Asian Games 2018, even though athlete selection will only be started sometime in the near future.

For the championship in Malaysia last January, Din-da admitted that she only had 10 days to do intensive preparation. This was because not long before the event, she had been taking one of her college credits, which obliged her to do a Community Service Program (KKN) located in Bojonegoro. “During the Service, I went jog-ging to keep myself fit,” said the girl who joins the Bad-minton Student Club.

About participating in the championship, Dinda re-ceived support from many parts. Besides parents, the campus also gave her constant motivation. Her friends and coach had always been rooting for her as well. All that made it easier for her to achieve success.

Dinda’s expertise in time management also plays an important role by far. This born 1998 girl has to share her time between colleges and acting in the world of sports. Moreover, the athlete who has known fencing since she was in Junior High School is considered a mainstay in the Province of East Java squad and even national team. (*)

According to Emil, every field of works always has the challenges and risks, including her career in presenting. She had an unforgettable experience once, when she was on duty. She fell off the stage when she was presenting an event. The stage was 1.5 m high and the backdrop suddenly collapsed.

She believes that every event will give her interesting lessons, including new challenges. The most challenging

event might be the one with the president attending, where she had to interview national figures such as Jusuf Kalla, Prabowo, and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,

During her master’s study, Emil had to manage her time well as inbetween her busy schedule at work she had to finish her college assignments. She believes that the key to success is excellent time management.

She advised the students to never procrastinate and do their assignments in timely manner. Her family always supports her until she can rise on the challenges and finish her master’s degree on time with excellent results. (*)

Time Management, Key to Success

Constant Challenges

Emil Faizza has just finished her Master’s study in Media and Communications of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Airlangga. She is an anchor of a local TV broadcast with extensive experience in media and broadcasting. She has presented numerous programs of JTV.

The woman who lives in Deltasari Indah, Waru, Sidoarjo, is also a journalist, a broadcaster and an entertainer. Her career was started from some private radio stations after she had developed her potential in public speaking, by becoming a master of ceremony (MC) and moderator.

She has considerable experience in the field of presenting. She has been involved in various kinds of events such as music events, meet and greets, seminars or the government events. She said that she has been interested in presenting or public speaking since elementary school.

Her professional career finally led her to a decision to continue her study to a master’s degree in Media and Communications. She could finish her study on time after two years of study, from 2015 to 2017.

She believes that everyone must develop and upgrade their skills and knowledge. Otherwise, they will never make better achievements.

After taking Information Technology Diploma program (D1) and English Education Bachelor’s program (S1), she chose Media and Communications Master’s program, FISIP UNAIR. Despite her long journey in taking those degrees, about 10 years, she is always thankful that she can use her education well in her professional career.
