From the Principal…

Week three already… time is certainly flying by. On the weekend I joined the P&C at the ‘Hell Bar’ and experienced my very first Hell of the West. The bar was conveniently placed close to the finish line, so when we weren’t serving hot and thirsty customers, we were clapping and cheering the competitors as they finished their run. It was a great opportunity to meet more families and members of the community, and experience the vibrancy of the Goondiwindi community. At school this week I have worked with the Year One and Prep teachers during Year Level Meetings and we were lucky to have a visit from the Brisbane Lions. I also have a regular time to work in 4H on Mathematics, which is the best way to get to know our students. If this hot weather holds up, I’m packing my swimmers for a swimming lesson next week. Our Attendance Rate currently sits on 94.6% so we are on track to meet our target of 94% for the year. We need everyone to continue coming to school every day to maintain this attendance rate. At the end of the day though, it isn’t about meeting targets, it’s about making a difference to kids, and if they aren’t at school, they aren’t learning to read and they aren’t learning how to add and subtract and all of the other wonderful things we learn at school. 70.7% of our students have a 95% or better attendance rate but we need this number to be higher. Every day is a learning day!

This week I met with our PCYC Outside School Hours Care staff. We have a new Co-ordinator on board and if you are looking for after school care I would certainly suggest that you come along and meet Courtney. There are spaces available now, but please remember that the service will only remain as long as it is used.

The P&C Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 18 February, commencing at 6pm, in the school staffroom. Many people avoid the AGM because they worry that they may ‘get a job’ but I would encourage you to put this concern aside and come along, especially if you are a new parent to the school. Our P&C has a strong history of providing resources to make a difference to our students and this year’s fundraising goal is to redesign and renovate the Junior Eating Area. It would be wonderful to see some new Prep parents come along. Hope to see you there! Tomorrow, some of our students will compete in the Zone Swimming Trials and we wish all competitors great swims and good times. Mr Verney and I are attending the Goondiwindi State High School Leader Investiture on Tuesday morning and I will be at the McIntyre Cluster Meeting for most of Wednesday. I’m certainly looking forward to our own Leaders’ Induction Assembly next Thursday. Hope to see you there! Warm regards

Marni Morrison

Principal

School Banking

Do you remember school banking with your Dollarmite account?

Yes…..

Did you know that it still exists and we are part of the ‘Dollarmite School

Banking’?

No!

If you wish your child to participate and learn a valuable life skill that is

fun, all your child needs is a CBA Dollarmite account to participate.

Simply bring in their bank book (or Dollarmite account details)

completed to the Tuckshop every Thursday morning before School.

It’s that simple! There are some great prizes and

incentives to encourage your child to save and create good saving habits. For more information contact the

Tuckshop or Office.
