Gia Arbogast became the Assistant Director for the newly created Outreach, Communications and Programming division of the Miami-Dade Public Library System in 2012. As Assistant Director she is responsible for the development and execution of the Library’s Signature event, the International Art of Storytelling, along with system-wide programming such as Summer Reading, Teen Read Week, and Bookmark Contest as well as outreach services like mobile libraries, Talking Books, Connection: Library Service for the Homebound, Jump Start and Project L.E.A.D. (Literacy for Every Adult in Dade). Ms. Arbogast also implemented YOUmedia Miami and was instrumental in creating the Library’s early literacy initiative, Reading Ready.

Lisa Brahms is the Director of Learning and Research at Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and is a member of the University of Pittsburgh Center for Learning in Out of School Environments (UPCLOSE). Lisa has been an educator and designer of formal and informal learning experiences and environments for over a decade, working in schools and at numerous children’s, art and history museums. Lisa earned her PhD in Learning Sciences and Policy at the University of Pittsburgh and holds a master’s degree in Museum Education and Childhood Education from Bank Street School of Education.

Throughout her 33-year career as a librarian and leader in her profession, she has been involved in local, state and national library associations. A member of the Urban Libraries Council Executive Board, Ms. Cervantes is active in the Tucson community - recently joining the Steering Committee for the Tucson Festival of Books, the Board of Directors for Literacy Connects and the OCLC Global and Americas Regional Councils.

Hallie is the Founder and Co-Creator of Now Is The Time a city-wide initiative inspiring young people to make positive change in their communities and stop youth violence and intolerance. She has directed staged readings for The Goodman Theatre, Timeline Theatre, Chicago Dramatists and Steppenwolf Theatre Company. Betha Gutsche has been contributing to continuing education for library staff for almost 9 years, primarily through OCLC’s WebJunction.org program. She has worked on defining competencies (Co-Editor of the recently updated Competency Index for the Library Field), developing curriculum, presenting and training (in-person and online) and exploring new strategies in learning. She led the development of the training curriculum for Project Compass, which helped expand the capacity of U.S. libraries to support economic recovery in their communities. She collaborated with Dale Musselman to deliver a workshop on “Moving Training from Face-to-face to Online” for the Global Libraries Training Working Group. Betha is currently working on an IMLS-funded program to build e-learning development skills and models and increase the availability of high-quality library-specific online learning.

Barbara M. Jones is the Director of the Office for Intellectual Freedom, and the Executive Director of the Freedom to Read Foundation, at the American Library Association in Chicago. She has written two books on librarianship, the latest being Protecting Intellectual Freedom in Your Academic Library: Scenarios From the Front Lines (2009). She currently serves as a Consultant for IFLA’s FAIFE Committee (Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression). Elizabeth McChesney is the Director of Children’s Services for the Chicago Public Library. She has spent her entire career serving kids in Chicago, first at various branches in the city and then later as the Outreach Coordinator, Assistant Director for 12 years and Director of Children’s Services since 2012. She has won numerous awards for her work including the Chicago Police Department’s highest civilian honor for public service, the Morales Award, and the 2014 Library Journal “Mover and Shaker Award” for her leadership in STEM-based summer programming. Before that, she served as Sr. VP of Program and Development at the Urban Libraries Council in Chicago, IL, where she designed industry conferences, research, publications and futures projects. Prior to that, she ran her own planning firm in San Antonio, TX, while raising her 4 children, working on environmental, literacy and economic development projects.

Dale Musselman has worked in education and training for nearly 20 years and has been at OCLC since 2005. He leads WebJunction’s continuing education efforts, developing and managing online learning services and the technical platforms that support them. Before coming to OCLC, Dale spent 6 years at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in the U.S. Library Program as a traveling trainer, technical support specialist and website content manager. In earlier life, Dale had a wide variety of work experiences, including teaching high school. He has a BFA in Painting and Drawing and a M. Ed. in secondary education.

Louise Overgaard works as a team leader for the Family and Children’s team. Louise works intensely with developing the new Family and Children’s section at Dokk1 – the future library in Aarhus. The focus is on stories, play and learning. Through various development processes and cooperation with external partners the aim is to create a unique space for families and children in Aarhus. Louise has also for several years worked as project manager at the Main Library and has among other projects managed youth projects, projects about collaboraitve innovation and a two year project about makerspaces in the library.

Patrick joined the San Francisco studio after nearly a decade of service at Macquarium Intelligent Communications, where he built the firm’s user experience practice from the ground up, and crafted experience strategies across numerous industries and problem spaces. In fact, Patrick urges leaders in business and in technology to look to the humanities for inspiration as we move beyond the industrial age.
