The Lost Dogs’ Home opened as ‘The Temporary Homefor Lost and Starving Dogs’ at Gracie Street in NorthMelbourne on 28 February 1913. One hundred yearson and they are now Australia’s largest animal shelter,caring for more than 31,000 dogs and cats every yearand revenue of around $18m.Today, The Lost Dogs’ Home has a reputation as aleading advocate for animal welfare and responsiblepet ownership and provides a wide range of animalwelfare and community education services.
