Hato Petera principle Hone Mathews, support staff and a group of taui- ra were here to conduct an Enrolment Evening to promote the educational opportunities Hato Pe- tera provide for second- ary students through out New Zealand and to con- duct enrolment inter- views with whanau from Te Taitokerau who will be sending their tamariki to Hato Petera next year. The computing class was more than willing to host our guests by making sure that there was nice kai (food) awaiting them. Being in the teaching sector most of her adult life, stepping into this role comes easy for Dallas. A few people in the class were also privileged to have experienced a pre- dawn karakia (prayers) done in the Hawaiian language. Matua Ross Smith started the pre- dawn ceremony giving praise so that the sun would rise. As you can see by the picture the karakia worked as the sun slowly creeps over Manaia Maunga (Mt Manaia) in the back- ground. Those who were fortunate to at- tend would like to thank Matua Ross for allowing them the op- portunity of witnessing & experiencing such an awesome event. Ka mihi ki a koe e te Matua. Issue #1 The National Certificate In Compu- ting Level 2 Semester A came to a close at the end of July, with the ma- jority of those that were fortunate enough to have successfully passed securing themselves a placement in the National Cert in Computing Lev- el 3 Semester B class which started on Sept the 4th 2012. The National Certificate In Compu-

ting Level 2 Semester A came to a

close at the end of July, with the ma-

jority of those that were fortunate

enough to have successfully passed

securing themselves a placement in

the National Cert in Computing Lev-

el 3 Semester B class which started

on Sept the 4th 2012.

There were also a few fortunate ones

from last year that completed level 2

and have now joined their fellow

Social services akonga were snapped recently in class

wearing nothing but their pj’s.

However this was all part of their mahi, presenting

their Treaty of Waitangi timeline skits.

This program offers stu-dents NCEA qualification credits and is an im-portant step in promoting TWoA and supporting our rangatahi on their way to
