Nice day for a barbeque (Open)

It is far too warm, here.

Alicia impatiently pushed her hair out of her face, wiping herbrow with her sleeve before grabbing a tie and restraining herheavy fall of hair on top of her head. She had nearly forgottenwhy she rarely left her home, remembering too late that thelate afternoon sun would threaten to roast her to death. Shehad set out, book in hand, a mere hour earlier, planning on alaid back evening reading under the trees, and already shedesperately wanted to return to her cool, dark house.

Even after 4 years, her body had not fully adjusted to thedrastic temperature difference between Isnit and Neptune, herhome, and even stepping out after dark was rarely comfortable. Her light, airy clothing was of little help, and she had yet to cuther long hair as she had considered many times in the past.

She continued down the small, dirt path, her feet beginning todrag with heat exhaustion, before finally, with an exhausted

sigh, she sat down at the foot of a nearby tree, groping for thecantine slung over her shoulder, which she quickly opened andpoured towards her mouth, only to find that she had alreadyfinished the contents.

"Drat." She muttered, dropping the bottle on the ground andresting her head on the trunk behind her. She closed her eyes, unhappy with the fact that she was going to have to wait for afew hours for the sun to set before she could cool down andhead to a nearby restaurant for a drink.

"Too. Many. TREES!" Alugard shouted, kicking the closest one.He kicked wrong with his foot, resulting in a stubbed toe. Therehadn't been many forests, let alone trees where he came from.Mostly just plains, a desert, and one massive ocean. Oddlyenough no forests.

He was beginning to get annoyed, what with all the randomnoises from creatures and his utter lack of knowledgeconcerning WHERE THE HELL HE WAS. Other than that, he wasfine.

It had been days since he'd l ast seen someone, and even then,

she was a b*tch, not to mention a demon slayer. Needless tosay, they didn't get along well. He kept walking until he heard asoft thud and a voice. Oooohh, he thought. Someone to talk with! He hurried over tho the spot where he thought he'd heardthe voice, only to find nobody there...

"I thought i heard..." he said, walking around the entire treebefore plopping down at its trunk. Thats when he noticed, theperson was right across from him. Duh...i didn't think to look across from me... he thought, scolding himself.Alugard decided to speak first, still sitting. "Hi there. I 'mAlugard." He smiled, flashing his vivid green eyes. That usuallyseemed to help when it came to new people.

Alicia had just begun to doze off when she heard the nearbysound of footsteps crunching through the leaves on the forestfloor. Surprised that someone else would be so deep in thewoods, she slowly opened her eyes, just in time to see a darklydressed man with a shock of white hair disappear behind thetree directly in front of her. She tried to stand, to get out of sight, but she was too e xhausted to move, collapsing againbefore she was 3 inches off the ground. With a sigh she restedher head against the trunk again, waiting for him to re-appear.

After a few moments, the man rounded the tree, giving Alicia aproper view of his face. He had pointed ears like her, but hisskin was pale and he had surprisingly bright green eyes. She'dnever seen anyone like him before, and began to wonder aboutwhere he had been taken from. She studied him as he sat onthe ground with a huff, seeming frustrated about something, butshe looked away quickly when his gaze finally found her.

His voice drew her gaze back to his face, and she returned thesmile that he gave her."Alicia." She replied quietly, her voice gravelly and tired, asthough rarely used, though it was probably primarily due to herexhaustion and the thirst clawing at her throat. She cleared itand tried again."I'm Alicia." She began again, but her eyes began to drift closedand she had to fight momentarily to remain conscious. Sheshook her head and continued."What are you looking for?" She inquired, more to be polite thanout of genuine curiosity. Really, she just wanted to sleep untilthe sun went away.

"At the risk of sounding like a stalker, i was actually looking foryou." he admitted, scratching the back of his head. "I justrecently appeared here and don't have very many friends, soI'm always looking." he said, smiling again. Alicia's voicesounded quite gravelly, which didn't sit well with Al. "You soundthirsty, would you like a drink?" he offered, pulling a smallstone out of his pocket. This stone was cold to the touch andhad a small green rune carved into it. Scuffling over to her, hegrabbed her canteen and quickly went to the tree she wassitting against. Carving an identical rune as on the stone intothe tree, Alugard made a small spout-like branch grow from thetrunk. Water immediately began to pour into the canteen, soon

filling it to the brim. without a moment's pause, Alugard handedthe canteen to Alicia, smiling as he said, "Here, its water. Don'tworry, its safe."

"I see." Alicia said, returning Alugard's smile. "But I doubt my

company is going to be very enjoyable at the moment." Shemumbled, -more to herself than to him- leaning back andstaring at the slowly darkening sky. She couldn't wait to returnto her dark, cool home, but the sun seemed to have other plans, seeming to tease her with i t 's agonizingly slow trek towards thehorizon.

When Alugard mentioned a drink, Alicia's surprised gazeimmediately returned to the boy, who was now holding a stonewith an odd rune on it 's face. She began to wonder what therune stood for, but her unspoken question was quickly answeredas Alugard drew water from the tree she was leaning against, filling her bottle with the sparkling liquid. When her cantenewas full, he offered it to her and she took it without hesitation, barely hearing his assurances as she brought the bottle to herlips and swallowed nearly half of the liquid in one long gulp, thecool water feeling wonderful to her parched throat. With ahappy sigh, she wiped her mouth on her sleeve, replaced thecantene's lid, and turned to smile at Alugard."Thank you. I'm in your debt." She said, shifting so she satstraighter against the trunk. Her head spun a bit at the suddenmovement, but the dizziness quickly passed."How did you do that, anyway?"

((Sorry sweetie for my abscence!! I dont have interwebs accessduring the weekends TAT))Alugard chuckled at the way she gulped down the water, wavinghis hand in an attempt to wave away her comment. "Don't worryabout it. I'm not one to hold people to their promises." whenshe inquired about his rune stone, Alugard pulled the thing backout of his pocket and looked at it, not sure how to describe it."Well, on my home world, we didn't use machines. So, we hadto improvise by using these little things," He held the smallstone up to the fading light, its glyph shimmering."This particular rune allows me to manipulate anything that ismostly comprised of water, namely living things like this tree.By carving the same rune onto the tree, i was able to turn thebark into a spout and drain some of the water from inside it."He smiled and touched the rune again, transmuting the barkback to its origional state. Then he looked over at Alicia. "I'm sorry if that was overly long-winded. Did you have a question or anything?"

((That's fine. what matters is that you're back now. ^-^))

Alicia laughed quietly when Alugard had finished speaking."Don't worry about it. I think I understood it all." She smiled athim, and glanced down at the stone."It's very interesting; I've never seen anything like it. Can itonly be used by your people?"

She glanced up at the sky again, and noted that the sun hadstill barely moved, but sitting on the ground was gettinguncomfortable, and the water had returned much of herstrength. With a bit of effort, she slowly stood, still using thetree for support. When she was fully upright, she closed hereyes and took a few deep breaths before glancing at Alugardagain."Where are you from, anyway? If you don't mind my asking."She smiled at him before closing her eyes again, waiting for thedizziness and nausea to pass.

"I'm not sure if only my people can use it..." Alugard said inresponse to Alicia's question. "I think, as long as you can usemagic- Hey! Are you going to be okay?!" He stood up and heldout his hands in an attempt to keep the blue girl from falling. When she asked where he was from, he pondered how to answerher for a moment before saying, "Well, my home world never

really had a name, per se. We just called our part of it theUnderworld. We lived on the inside of a mass of crust andcosmic debris that had formed a shell around a small dwarf star."He sighed. It would take forever to explain the complexities of his home planet to this girl. especially considering he didn'tknow everything about it himself."Either way, it was a massive rock with a star on the inside thatwas more or less our sun, so there was never any night time."he said, glancing over to the setting sun of this world. "I'venever seen the sunset in my entire time on that world. It 'sbeautiful..." he sighed, a plethora of emotions welling up in hischest. 'Okay...sappy moment has to end...' he told himself, turning back to Alicia. He transmuted his shadow, a dim purple light emanating fromthe glowing glyph in his hand, and held it up like an umbrella, sheilding Alicia from the last few rays of the sun. "You don'tseem to like the sun very much...where are you from?"((OOC||: sorry for the sappy moment...had a sorta bad nightwith this guy i like, so i might get either sappy or emo fromtime to time :P))

"I'm fine. Just a little woozy." Alicia assured the boy, relaxing asher body adjusted to her upright position.

"I've never heard of anything like that." She said. "It must havebeen warm down there." She shuddered at the thought of livingso close to such a strong heat source. Even the distanced sunhere was giving her trouble.

"The sunset is quite lovely." She sighed, watching the hues of red and purple spread through the sky as the sun sank lower.

"I grew up on Neptune, the ninth planet in the Solar System."She said, grateful for the additional shade Alugard had offeredher. "It's very cold, there, with the sun being so far away, andI'm still adjusting to the heat here. It 's bearable at night, but Idon't usually head out during the day, so it caught me off guard." She was very glad that she had met the boy, and had afeeling that he if he hadn't come along, she would have beenmuch worse off.

With a small sigh, she pushed herself away from the tree. "Ishould probably head back into town and find something to eat.Would you like to come with me?"

She looked aroundagain, trying to find the path she'd used when she hadwandered into the forest, but she had been so preoccupied withtrying to stay conscious, that she hadn't been paying as muchattention to her surroundings as she should have been."I think I came f rom that direction." She said, pointing towardsa narrow, dirt path. "Though I'm not entirely sure. I supposewe'll just have to wander around until we find some sign of civilization." Alugard sighed. At least he wasn't the only one who had gottenlost. He followed Alicia down the dirt path, suddenly very awareof the sounds of creatures in the forest. "Umm...have you ever

encountered anything in the woods at night here?" he asked, hisvoice shaking slightly. He pulled yet another stone from hispocket, except this one had an orange rune carved into it.Holding it up, Alugard whispered the spell to activate it, andsoon there was a bright firey bird about the size of his handflying sbove the two. "These things really come in handy." Alsaid, pulling out another stone. The rune on this one shonesilver in the small magicked light of the bird flying around theirheads. "Have you ever done magic before?" he asked, handingAlicia the stone.

"To be honest, I've never been this deep in the woods at night.I'm not sure what may be lurking about." She looked aroundcautiously, the forest seeming to come to life as all it's nighttime inhabitants began to stir."Most of the creatures here are probably more afraid of us thanwe are of them." She said, only half believing the truth of thestatement and jumping slightly as a howl sounded to her left, followed by the answering calls of the pack. Maybe night timewasn't so wonderful after all.

The sudden light behind Alicia startled her, and she spun aroundto see the bird floating above Alugard's head. She breathed asigh of relief, glad for some light, hoping it would help keep thenight creatures at bay.

"No, I've never used magic. It didn't exist on my home world."She stared at the stone the boy offered to her, a look of supreme confusion on her face.

"I'm not sure I'd be able to control that." But she took the stoneregardless, and turned it over in her hands, studying the smallrune carved into it."How am I supposed to activate it?"

"Alugard giggled when Alicia turned, startled. He pondered for amoment when she'd said there was no magic on her planet. Hadhe not only been brought to Planet from his own world, but hadhe been in another dimension entirely? Everything where he'dcome from was made of the Myst, their source of life and magic. The spark of the universe...or ws it now multiverse ?"Well, where i 'm from, we use the Myst, the source of all that isand ever will be." he said, cupping his hands around hers. "Moreor less, you just have to feel that you are part of a large river, going with the flow, so to speak. All you have to do is feel theebb and flow of the energy around you." Holding her handsgently, Alugard opened himself to the world around him, feelingthe prescence of life and it 's energy everywhere. Channelingthat feeling, he used himself as a conduit and let it flow towardsAlicia. "Just let yourself go. Relax, and the flow of energyshould make itself available to you. Can you feel it?" he asked, closing his eyes.((OOC||: failpost is HARDCORE FAIL. After a few minutes of standing there, trying to focus on theflow of energy, Alicia began to feel a slight tingling in herfingers where the stone sat. With an exclamation, she openedher hands to look at the stone, but it looked the same as it hadbefore. She sighed."It didn't work." He kissed the snake's head as it wrapped itself around his arm, forming a silver arm guard. Truth be told, he'd always beensomewhat adept at magic, due mainly in part to him being half-demon, but he didn't feel the need to point that out.As they walked, the sounds of more a nd more creatures filledhis ears. Alugard spun around to see what Alicia was talking about whenhe came face-to-face with one of the beasts. It was at least twoyards away from them, but that even seemed too close. Thecreature stood at a massive seven feet tall, its eyes glowing inthe firelight from the small bird circling their heads. Severalmore of these things stepped out of the shadows around them, forming a tight circle around the pair. There was nine of thesedog-bear things in total, and all of them seemed hungry. 'Notgood, not good!!!' Al said to himself, trying not to betray hissomewhat stoic demeanor."What ar e these things?!" he asked Alicia, backing up closer toher. All of the creatures stood around five to seven feet tall atthe shoulder, several of them adorned with large ram-like hornsatop their heads, and the r est flicking tails with arrowhead tips. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Alugard heard a voice ring outin his head.Hello, kiddies. How does this most pleasant of nights find you? The voice sounded calm, cool...and deadly."Mindspeak, right?" he asked, not sure which of these beasts hewas addressing. A tenth creature, the voice's owner, steppedgracefully out of the shadows. It was tallet than the rest, butonly by a couple of feet. It had a similar build as the others, theonly differences being it had large bat-like wings attached to it 'sback and two sharp fangs protruding from it 's mouth. 'I dobelieve we've found the leader...' Al thought, nudging Alicia."What are these things? I've never seen them before." he said,

his shadow already formed into clawed gauntlets. The snakethat had wrapped around his arm had changed once more, taking on the form of a short sword, which he then offered toAlicia. He was determined that if a fight broke out, they wouldat least go down with a fight.((btw: i wrote this on paper at TWO IN THE MORNING!!!one....so i 'm sorry if it suxor))

Large wings beat soundlessly against the wind, the cool airbrushing against the feathers while the owner of such strongappendages made a turn and a cheering "whoohoo!" while hesoared pleasantly above. She looked around, trying to find a gap in the circlethey could slip through, but the creatures were standing too

Alicia jumped as the voice sounded in her head, and shescanned the circle around them, searching for the source of thevoice, but none of the surrounding creatures showed any signthat they had spoken. She continued to look around, and sawthe new Vargul as it walked into view. It had deep red fur, almost the colour of blood, and dark, leathery wings on it 'sback. She turned to look at the hurt Vargulagain, but her attention was drawn back to the Sanglyst as ittook to the sky, flying towards something she couldn't see."What's going on?"

((Note, she isn't ignoring Zoey, she's just too distracted tonotice her yet. Plus, I think this post is long enough. XD))

with nothin' to do. How's about a race? Call off your littleminions and let's see how you can last against a real creature of flight," Harry said with a smirk on his face, his large wings stillbeating behind him, muscles forming behind the feathers. Unlikemost birds, his wings were not weak and brittle.

"If ya catch me, well, I guess I'm dinner. If I wipe ya out, well,

obviously I win," he added with a wink. "S'deal?"

Zoey stared at the harpy, is this guy NUTS , or just try ing to bea hero? Either way it 's a stupid idea. The situation did not seemto be a good one, in any sense.

She pulled her sleeves back ready to fight, if the need shouldarised. She bit her left thumb and waited for the blood to drip.Making a symbol on her right palm with her bloodied thumb, tobe ready. "Well it looks like a fight is unavoidable. You wantsome help?"

She wasn't in the mood to fight really, but letting people diewent against everything she had ever been taught. So, she wasunable to leave well enough alone. She needed the exerciseanyways. What the hell...

Alugard's ears perked as he heard twigs snap, and he turned tosee another prescence coming their way. He'd nodded when sheoffered her services. "This sure won't be easy. Theres ten of them and so far, only four of us." Looking back at Alicia, headded, "We could use all the help we can get."Alicia then told him what these strange creatures were. Thathad comfirmed what the winged one had...said.... Well whateverthey were, they were way too big for his liking."Well, hopefully, i may have some back-up coming to help evenout the odds. She should be here shortly," he said, lunging atthe nearest beast. Screaming like a banshee, he leapt off theground and slashed at the nearest vargul's face, gouging outthe horned beast's eye.-----

The sanglyst slowed, beating his wings slowly as hecontemplated the bird-creatue's words.

((Gah! Sorry, I forgot about Isnit. ^-^"))

Alicia watched the Sanglyst fly towards something small andalmost humanoid, floating in the sky. She could see a pair of large wings keeping the creature aloft, but couldn't identifyexactly what it was. Whatever it was, though, it had drawn awaythe attention of the lead Vargul, and the others seemed almostlost without their leader."Well, that was convenient." She mumbled.

She was startled by the new voice behind her, and she spunaround to see a blonde girl with pointed ears. She stared at herfor a moment before turning her attention to Alugard as hespoke."I suppose you're right." She sighed. So much for a quiet nightto herself.

She jumped as Alugard launched himself at one of the Varguls, but quickly recovered as the pack came to life to help theirfriend. With a quiet oath, she lunged at the creature closest toAlugard, plunging her sword through it 's chest before swingingit towards another animal.

Zoey watched as the Sanglyst chased after the flying man. He'dcaptured the creatures attention and drawn it away, althoughshe wasn't sure if the bird-man would ever be seen again. And itwas evident that the rest were still out numbered.

The half-elf laughed, as a rush of adrenaline washed over her. Ared glow gathered in her palm, which she slammed into theground moments later. Three of the Varguls that were closest toher froze, unable to move from where they stood. Vicious snarls

Alicia spun around just as another creature lunged at her, andshe quickly brought her sword down, abruptly putting an end toit 's vicious snarl. She sighed as she swung at (and missed) oneof the defeated Vargul's companions. She hated fighting likethis, and thus only had minor, defensive training, which did not

increase her confidence. Plus, she had never used a sword inher life; her instructor had only taught with staffs.

She pulled herself out of her reverie and swung the swordagain, catching another Vargul in the leg. He went down with ahowl of pain."I truly hope we make it out of this." She mumbled to no one inparticular as the battle continued.

    ((Make that 2 left. XD))

Zoey looked around and realized that the other girl was all thatwas left of the group she'd come across. Taking out a knife fromher belt, she slashed one of the captive Varguls in the ribs andanother on its left legs causing them both to howl into the bleaknight. The half-elf was used to fighting, but the creatures in thisworld were truly different from the ones back home, consideringthese creatures could speak in their own way. The other two

Varguls soon were wounded as well, meaning that there wereonly two left that she could see moving around unharmed.Glancing over to the woman, she smiled, knowing they wouldwin, "I dare say we're about done with this fight."Throwing the knife at the beast that had crept up behind theblue woman, "Watch out!" It sliced into the Vargul's shoulder, sending it to the ground.((1 Vargul left))

Alicia jumped and spun around, just in time to see the knifeembed itself into the Vargul's shoulder. She sighed and lookedaround, curious as to how many enemies were left. It seemed

that all but one Vargul had been taken care of, and it wasbacking slowly into the shadows, snarling it 's frustration. Aliciasighed in relief. It seemed to be over, at least for now."Might I advise that we get out of here before theyrecover?" She asked her new companion as she began to backtowards the path that had brought her to the clearing.

There wasn't much else to say at themoment, but once they were a good distance from thecreatures, her legs gave out beneath her. Her knees hitting theground with a thud, her breathing had become heavy during thefight, Zoey was now coughing from the lack of air she wasgetting. The fatigue was making breathing harder and movingaround wasn't making it any easier. "I just--need a moment."She didn't want to be a burden, however there wasn't much shecould do about this.

Alicia hurried along, barely aware of the girl beside her as hermind focused on the sounds around her, waiting for somethingto jump out of the bushes. The sun had set, and the cool nightmade Alicia much more comfortable, the coldness rejuvenatingher and clearing her mind, but she knew the battle had been tooeasily won, and that they could still be in danger.

She barely heard Zoey hit the ground, but turned when sherealized that the girl's voice was behind her, instead of at herside. She saw her on the ground and quickly rushed over, kneeling on the ground beside her."You used more energy than you should have." She reachedto her side and grabbed her cantene, holding it out to herfriend. "Here, this should help."

Zoey carefully took the canteen, making sure not to drop it. Herbreathing calming slowly, taking in a gulp of the liquid. "They'llbe back in about an hour, we need to get as far as we can.I've dealt with them before." She slowly rose to her feet anddusted herself off. Looking around for a safe direction to head,

although it had only been about two weeks since she'd arrivedon Planet. Her blonde hair clung to her cheeks damp from the sweat she'dworked up during the fight. The pleats were a mess, but shedidn't have time to worry about that at the moment. Theimportant matter at hand was how they were going to get awayfrom where they now stood.

The half-elf merely following after the blue-skinned woman, tootired to comment. She didn't know exactly where the town wasso there wasn't much she could do, finally looking down at herhands. The dark red blood had stained her sleeves and coveredher palms in the horrifying color, but Zoey mind was not in theright state to recognize what it was and that was for the best. Her intricate tattoos seemed to be glowing in the night, howeverthe brighter light came from a pendant that hung around herneck, a snowflake, shining blue. Her head nodding as sheattempted to stay awake, though it seemed that there was achance that she'd be walking in her sleep instead.
