Tell us a little about NICO International and what you will be promoting/showcasing at Seatrade Maritime Middle East.

The genesis of NICO International dates back to 1947, with the establishment of a small workshop in Gothenburg, Sweden to carry out marine engine repairs. With its headquarters in Dubai since 1973, NICO International is one of the world’s leading marine & industrial engineering group. Can you give us a really good example of how NICO can go to clients anywhere to facilitate urgent ship repair globally. Could you give us an overview of a situation like this that you have quickly and effectively responded to?

Its maritime service, since 1973, has burgeoned into what NICO International stands for today. With a sturdy backbone of expertise and experience, NICO International’s future vision is “to be the leader in the global marine market.” Within that ineradicable framework, NICO International comes with the promise of being the preferred choice for maritime services for the global marine industry.

With its highly skilled workforce, of around 1200 from as many as 27 countries, who are regularly updated on the new technology trends through internal training and through its marine principal provided training, NICO International is in a position to offer most advanced products and services to

reduce downtime and increased efficiency of ships at sea. With its worldwide network and on-call emergency ship repair squad, customers are assured that a team of specialist is always available. It’s highly rated and trained ‘riding crews’ have an excellent eminence amongst the world’s leading ship owners and operators.

NICO International continuously ensures that it remains aware of emerging trends in the market. Mr. Prakash Kumar – GM states - “We monitor vessel movements and ascertain where it is that vessels are entering our region from. There is certainly a strong trend developing in the scale of Chinese and Taiwanese vessels now moving through this area. To this end, we have begun to market NICO International more prominently within these countries.

The monitoring process is a continuous focus of the business – we monitor every week where vessels are predominantly entering

the region from, and should we observe that an area or region is becoming predominant, we ensure our representatives are sent out to raise awareness of NICO International.”

Due to the emphasis demonstrated by NICO International on afloat repair work, the company also engages in such tracking to ensure that it is prepared for what is otherwise an unplanned manner of operation. “Even for areas in which we have established networks, we need to maintain knowledge of when vessels are expected to arrive in the region,” Mr Kumar expands “To this end, tracking is very beneficial to the company.

Because NICO International has a history spanning over 45 years, we can demonstrate a great deal of knowledge regarding our customers – so we are very proactive in communicating with vessels and enquiring if there is any work to be performed. This also ensures that we can schedule ourselves accordingly.”

What are your plans, goals and ambitions for 2019 and beyond?

Success for NICO has been the continuous adaptability and relationship with the customer / external stake holders and being the – “One Stop Shop” for Marine engineering sector. Since its beginnings, NICO has charted a course to prosperitya - from diversification to navy recognition, and from specialized repairs to marketplace observation, the unique services provided by the company ensure that its role on the global stage will assuredly remain a prominent one.

Uncompromising attitude towards safety and quality has attributed to NICO’s success story since 1973. It is a wide spectrum of activities that NICO engage in and looking ahead, NICO wishes to continue developing long-term agreements and contracts with major vessel companies and to continue the progress in forming strategic alliances with equipment manufacturers, customers and suppliers alike. NICO continues to expand, with the company’s network having grown to conduct business in all major shipping nations.

Adding more manpower to the ever-increasing pool of highly trained and qualified riding squads has been a notable achievement for the company. NICO has taken CDC for more mechanics and fabrication team (Belize CDC) to upgrade the team of riding squads. NICO successfully provides essential, efficient and reliable services and total solutions through its technically competent, highly skilled and effective workforce, who are dedicated to meet and exceed the customer expectation.
