Students have shared in discussions around

Reconciliation and the five dimensions: race

relations, equality and equity, institutional

integrity and historical acceptance.

Researching information and reference to

poetry written by Aboriginal authors on the

topic students shared and developed their

understanding of the reason for and the

purpose of reconciliation.

Reconciliation: Poem

The pain they suffered,

The hate they went through,

It wasn’t our land,

It was theirs,

We took it from them,

And pushed them away,

Put them in camps,

The tried to take it back,

But did not succeed,

We put them back,

Took their kids,

Named the land ours,

We stared getting along,

Made a truce,

And came together.

Home Group - 6/5 - Lemon Yellow

Students in the Green Home Group have started the term with a very positive start. We began the term by writing a recount of our holidays and then had the opportunity to type them up. Here are two of our pieces. My holiday recount I had a great time on my holiday! I went to Kmart so I could get some new shoes and a new toy. My tooth came out at my friend’s house. I put it in a sandwich bag but I accidentally left it there. I went to two sleep overs and played some games. Tyson

My Holiday Recount

I went to my Nan’s house. I watched Toy Story 4

and each of us got some lolly’s it was awesome. I

got a hot chocolate. It was so delicious. Then we

went to bed. The next day we had pan cakes with

Nutella.

Life is hard but easier than it was for

the Aboriginals.

Mistakes help us grow our mindset so

it should fix this mess.

What happened back then is gone

it is the present you have to worry

about!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

English This term students will familiarise themselves with the features and structures of poetry, exposed to various styles and poets. Across the school students will respond to poems, sharing their thinking, and writing their own. Students will learn how to ‘craft’ their poems and extend their descriptive and emotive writing skills. Students are encouraged to recognise and build upon the ideas and thinking of others, developing their understanding of texts read and viewed, making connections and inferences whilst monitoring their understanding as they read.

Maths Our whole school focus for Mathematics this term will primarily be around Number and Algebra with students within the upper school focusing on Fractions and Decimals, whilst Addition and Subtraction will be the focus for foundation—Level 3. Pre assessments are to assess student knowledge and determine their next stage of learning, identifying and developing their own learning goals. Students will work in Numeracy Groups to develop the skills to attain their Mathematics learning goals. In order to motivate and engage our students a range of opportunities will be presented for students to develop and apply their skills through rich learning tasks, with real life scenarios.

Science. Technology. Engineering. Arts. Mathematics (STEAM) This term our STEAM focus is Geography. The year F-3 students will use maps to identify the location of landmarks and significant places within Australia. Students will construct their own simple maps of familiar locations. Students will also look at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Country/Place. Students in years 4– 6 will research information on a chosen destination, planning for a trip. Students will have to investigate forms of travel, time and costs associated to create an itinerary.

Health and Physical Education This term students will continue to develop ball skills, coordination and team work associated with the game of Basketball and Soccer. Junior students will continue with the Perceptual Motor Program building upon their fine and gross motor skills and perceptual motion. Balance and coordination are both vital skills in physical movement.

Student Wellbeing ‘Anxiety explained, Students Empowered’ through the sharing of texts and reference to ‘hey Warrior’ students will engage in regular conversations as a class to recognise emotions and build on their strengths. The ability to recognise the physical signs of anxiety can help with take charge of their reactions and feelings.

Excursions & Incursions Bulla Hoop time is on again! For those students in year 3-4 and 5-6 who have expressed interest and been successful in joining a team dates and venue are as follows. Year3/4 team; Tuesday the 6th of August at the Warragul Leisure Centre. Year 5/6 team; Tuesday the 27th of August at the Warragul Leisure Centre.

Year 5 & 6 Urban Camp is 14th—26th of August. Further information will be sent home in the weeks leading up to the camp. Queries and questions can be directed to the office.

School Production Students are practising their lines and the lyrics to songs for ‘Kids in Space’ ready for the Production this Term. With the Performance to be held at the Drouin Auditorium on Thursday the 5th of September students are part of regular rehearsals. More information will be sent out via the school newsletter over the coming weeks.

Home Learning Students are reminded to record their nightly reading, bringing their student diaries in daily to be checked off by their teacher. During the term students have a weekly opportunity to borrow from the MARC Van library, with continued access to our school books. We encourage students to select and read a variety of texts including different genres. Thank you for continuing to support your child with the Learning Activities Under the Guidance of Home (LAUGH) tasks and for using the school diaries for communication.

Thank you for the ongoing support. Emily Matarczyk, Avis McInnes, Monica Berkelmans and Amanda Buckler.

‘KIDS IN SPACE’ Drouin Auditorium Hall

Thursday 5th September 2019 7.00pm – 8.00pm

(Kids to arrive at 6.40pm) With Supper to follow… GOLD COIN DONATION

Synopsis Somewhere, some time, way in the future, the NIMBUS FAMILY (STRATO NIMBUS, MAMATUS NIMBUS, SWEETUS NIMBUS and CUMULO NIMBUS) live a futuristic life with their gadgets and their ROBOTS. On hearing that he is expected to take his sister to the disco for her birthday, CUMULO rebels and takes off in his spacecraft – wagging school. He becomes lost and ends up in the Black Hole (the destination of all lost objects). Here he meets PROFESSOR HELMUT VON AARDVAARK. The professor has been kidnapped by the SPACE PIRATES(ANDROMEDA, CRABFACE AND HORSEHEAD) and held captive in the Black Hole. The PIRATES are runaway kids who remain permanently young, wagging school, with the aid of their ‘rejuvenation gum’. But their supply of gum is running out and they need the PROFESSOR to make up a new batch for them. Also wandering into the Black Hole come ARTHUR HALLEY, a dodgy used spaceship salesman and his furry sidekick CHEWGUM. They have stolen Dr Who’s Tardis and it deposits them in the Black Hole and then disappears. The PIRATES discover CUMULO and hold him as hostage, threatening to make him walk the plank in 24 hours unless the PROFESSOR comes good with the gum Meanwhile ARTHUR and CHEWY meet the PROFESSOR and discover that he has his own space craft(a tricycle). However, it cannot be used without its Temporal Shift Generator, which the PIRATES have. ARTHUR decides to make a deal with the pirates and exits with a batch of experimental, but faulty, Rejuvenation Gum. However, he drops it on the way … In the ensuing mayhem, both ARTHUR AND CUMULO find themselves tied up in the PIRATES’ lair, facing big trouble. But CHEWY finds the gum and gives it to the PIRATES just in time. However – the Rejuvenation Gum is a faulty, experimental batch and is a little too effective … turning the pirates into babies. CHEWY releases ARTHUR and CUMULO, takes the Temporal Shift Generator and they hi-tail it back to the PROFESSOR. At this point, the Tardis arrives with the NIMBUS FAMILY. CUMULO is happy to see them, happy to take his sister to the disco and happy to be leaving the Black Hole. All head to the Intergalactic Disco for a Space Boogie. Families must return the REQUEST FOR NUMBER OF SEATS FOR PRODUCTION by Monday 29th July so we can finalise the allocation of tickets ensuring there are enough seats. At this stage we have allowed 5 tickets per family, we will finalise seating arrangements once we have received all requests. We will endeavour to do our best with accommodating families ticket requests. A gold coin donation is requested for tickets. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
