We wanted better feedback from NIMS regarding how well our students did on the test but NIMS does not give out that information. The NIMS test is either pass or fail. We plan to start earlier with the instruction of skills needed to be successful on the NIMS test. NIMS is looking at being able to give us feedback on student outcomes.

Closing the Loop & Next Steps

Assessment ActivityStudents were given a packet that had all of the competencies that they needed to learn and demonstrate to the faculty. Both student and faculty initialed that the competency was completed. At the end of the semester the students were given the assessment test from NIMS in the testing center. Student assessment was a pass or fail to earn the NIMS credential.

PlanStudents will be assessed using the National NIMS CNC Lathe operator exam. This one will be given at the end of the Fall semester 2016. We should have instant results regarding the scoring of the NIMS test and be able to report the data. We will attach the results to the plan.

ProblemStudents will be able to interpret principles and demonstrate mastery of the set up and operation of the CNC Lathe. This skill was deemed very important to the industry during advisory committee meetings and personal discussions.
