Chapter 2: Requirements

■ Oracle INSTANT CLIENT is not supported.

■ A database user with the privilege'SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE','gv_$sort_segment' and 'sys.ts$'

■ Script for a monitoring user: (connect as sys)

■ Create user nimmon identified by nimmon;

■ Grant connect to nimmon;

■ Grant select_catalog_role to nimmon; grant select on gv_$sort_segment to nimmon; grant select on sys.ts$ to nimmon; Oracle user 'system' has these rigths already granted.

■ Role based login is also supported for e.g.: sys as sysdba

■ The probe can monitor Oracle databases running on UNIX and Windows platforms.

This section contains the following topics:

Hardware Requirements (see page 11) Software Requirements (see page 11) Supported Platforms (see page 12)

Hardware Requirements

The oracle probe should be installed on systems with the following minimum resources:

■ Memory: 2-4 GB of RAM. Probe's OOB configuration requires 256 MB of RAM.

■ CPU: 3 GHz dual-core processor, 32-bit or 64-bit.

Software Requirements

The oracle probe requires the following software environment:

■ Nimsoft Monitor Server 5.1.1 or later

■ Nimsoft robot version 5.23 or later

■ Java Virtual Machine version 1.6 or later (typically installed with NMS 5.0 and above)

Note: For SOC functionality, NM Server 5.6 or later and UMP 2.5.2 or later is required.

Chapter 3: Considerations 13

Chapter 3: Considerations

This section contains the following topics:

Installation Considerations (see page 13) Upgrade Considerations (see page 13)

Installation Considerations 1. Make sure the Oracle Client is set up and configured correctly. Oracle libraries have

to be in system PATH. With Linux the environmental variables ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME have to be set for the Nimsoft controller. This can be done either in the controller GUI, or by editing the starting script 'nimbus', usually located at /etc/init.d (the robot needs to be restarted).

2. Get the package oracle.zip from Internet Updates.

3. Get a valid license from http://www.nimsoft.no.

4. Install oracle.zip on the machine running Oracle Client (use drag & drop from Nimbus Archive).

5. Double-click on the oracle probe to launch the probe property sheet.

6. Configure the probe acc. to your specifications and connection requirements.

Note: On UNIX/Linux platforms make sure the $ORACLE_HOME libraries are in the path before starting the Nimsoft robot.

To load the shared libraries on Linux machine make sure "Current Enforcing Mode" of SELinux is set to permissive mode.

For supported combinations of Oracle servers and clients, please see the probe documentation

Upgrade Considerations

Versions >=4.01 support upgrades from version 3.9x with some limitations. Support for monitoring Oracle 8.x is discontinued from oracle probe version >= 4.x.
