About UsNishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. was first founded in 1912 in Japan. We are known as one of the

oldest and most experienced importer and distributor of Asian food products in North America. Our growth and success can also be attributed to the continued support and cooperation of our customers and suppliers.

Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. is known for producing the “Shirakiku” brand products. The Shirakiku name brand became popular in many Japanese households from the very start and is now recognized as a brand of choice nationwide. We provide customers with a comprehensive range of items. With over 6,000 items, we carry every imaginable product in this industry.

At Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. we strive to assure our customers that every aspect of our business is important to us.

Shirakiku is Nishimoto Trading Company’s

private brand of products that originally fulfilled

a demand in the Japanese markets of the United

States. Shirakiku products have expanded into the

Asian community in general, and are finding popularity

in mainstream American grocery stores and

restaurants. The brand has come to be

synonymous with Nishimoto Trading, and is

now sold worldwide.

Mum’s: MUM’S is a private, sister brand to Nishimoto

Trading Company that is exclusive to Hawaii. MUM’S

products are both food and non-food, and differ from those marketed

under the Shirakiku label. The MUM’S product line will continue to serve

the Hawaiian community as it has become a common house hold item, all

of the current MUM’S products will continue to be available to the ever-

growing Hawaiian market.

Nishimoto Trading Company’s China Sea is another of its private

brands. It has been providing Chinese products such as Sai-fun and

Mai-fun to add diversity to our Japanese product line since 1977.

Our Private Brands

Shirakiku has over 6,500 food and non-food items, and has been serving North America since 1947.

Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. takes pride in its wide selection of prestigious Japanese Sake and Shochu items. We carefully select labels that are brewed from Hokkaido to Okinawa in an effort to share the varied selection that Japan has to offer to our customers worldwide.

These products are available to retailers, restaurants and wholesalers/distributors worldwide.

Meet Our EmployeesRestaurant Sales Department

Our Restaurant Sales Department is comprised of “Professional Restaurant Consultants” who utilize their extensive knowledge and skills to assist in restaurant development, menu design, product consultations, new product presentations, sales and marketing as well as many other aspects of the food industry.

Within the entire company there are the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese Restaurant Sales Team. We are geared to serve multiple Asian cultures with our Japanese, Korean and Chinese food products.

We strive to serve business needs by supplying the right products and the best prices possible! Companies that utilize our wealth of knowledge and experience are individual restaurants, restaurant chains, hotel chains and many others. We not only provide Asian food products, but also supply many restaurants and food manufacturers with the highest quality restaurant supplies.

What do you like about working at Nishimoto?At Nishimoto Trading, it’s all about one’s passion and effort to step up, rather than seniority. When I had a new business opportunity which appeared difficult to handle, the company willingly let me take on the project when I provided them with a plan that was solid and reasonable. At Nishimoto, the more effort you put in your job will earn you more opportunities and rewards within the company. I feel very happy to have had been given the responsibility to take care of many territories at six different states. It has allowed me to learn irreplaceable skills.

How is the work environment at Nishimoto?The environment has been both very friendly and intense. The structure of my sales department consists of six sales teams. They seriously compete but support each other. I believe that it makes this department better and stronger.

Why did you choose to work at Nishimoto?At first, I started working at Nishimoto as a Part-time office worker. Then my boss saw the potential I have and offered me thesales associate position. I decided to work with Nishimoto because I wanted to challenge new things and cultivate myself.

Has your responsibilities increased since you first started working at Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd?I stated working at Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. as an office worker at the Arizona Branch office and then became a sales associate, group leader and an assistant sales manager. Currently I am the sales manager at the San Diego Branch office. Myresponsibilities have increased and changed in many ways.

What type of training did you receive?I have received communication skills, how to organize my daily schedule effectively, how to achieve my goal (budget) every month.

What difficulties have you experienced at Nishimoto?It was very difficult in the beginning to offer products to my customers because I did not know the characteristics of the quality, taste, brand and so forth. As a sales representative, it is crucial to be self-motivated to acquire up-to-date and precise knowledge of products and I still strive to learn day by day.

How are the company benefits?The health insurance is great at Nishimoto including vision and dental care.

Why did you choose to work at Nishimoto?I was looking for a job where I could use my Japanese and English language skills to the fullest. I use both languages at work and going out in the field and meeting people is another plus.

Grocery Sales DepartmentOur Grocery Sales Department is responsible in supplying large and small grocery stores and supermarkets all across the nation. The department is comprised of employees who utilize their knowledge and skills to assist in supplying grocery stores and supermarkets with the right products at the best possible prices.

Within the entire company there are the Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and American Grocery Sales Departments.The company is geared to serve multiple customers with our Japanese, Chinese and Korean food products.

With their extensive knowledge and expertise, the employees in the Grocery Sales Department can alsodesign the schematics of the Asian Foods Section in the retail stores and assist in designing certain items forpromotions to further increase sales.

Has your responsibilities increased since you first started working at Nishimoto?Yes it has increased significantly. I started as Sales Associate and eventually I was asked to handle purchasing for the Grocery Dept. at the LA Branch office. After 3 years working in LA, I transferred to Chicago to improve the grocery dept. After a year in Chicago the grocery dept. sales increased by 40%. In addition to selling, I was also tasked to do purchasing and managed the grocery sales dept. sales staff. I was transferred and promoted to Manager of Grocery Product and Marketing Division and I monitor the entire sales figures, control the inventory, and create new plans and strategy for the entire grocery sales division.

What do you like about working at Nishimoto? Regardless of age or years of work, Nishimoto promotes people who excel at what they do. They look at past performance evaluation and achievement evaluations and if you can produce good results, they will give you the chance for more responsibilities even a promotion.

Why did you choose to work at Nishimoto?Prior to working at Nishimoto, I worked in Japan for 3 years. In my previous company, I worked every day on a pre-planned, pre-fixed schedule. I gave it my best and asserted myself at all given tasks. However, at the end I realized that I wanted a career where I would be given the opportunity to take personal responsibility and feel satisfaction through the results I produce. While preparing for a career change, I found information on Nishimoto and decided to start my new career with Nishimoto. This year marks my 3rd year anniversary at Nishimoto. I strongly believe that each associate represents the face of the company. Whenever I see the face of satisfied clients, it makes me feel that I have created a strong and tangible relationship for Nishimoto, myself and the clients. Having that responsibility and allowing me to be flexible within my duties gives me the drive to be innovative and always challenge myself.

What is interesting about your job?The most interesting part of my job is that I am able to plan different promotional and sales strategies for each of my customers to meet the sales objectives.

What type of training did you receive?First I went through warehouse training which consisted of assembling, merchandise and loading those items into the truck. This was very important experience in order to understand the operational flow for the Company. After my warehouse training, I started supporting senior sales associates and shadowed their daily activities. After that I was given a few accounts to manage.

What do you like about working at Nishimoto?I chose to work at Nishimoto because I wanted to spread Japanese food to more people in the United States. I know that there are many people who enjoy Japanese food on a daily basis and I wanted to introduce more Japanese food products to others. I want Japanese food to be a mainstream food item in the US.

1 Corporate planning DivisionThe Corporate Planning Division works with Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. executive management and is responsible to draw up detailed action plans to achieve an organization’s goals and objective, taking into account the resources of the organization and the environment within which it operates. Corporate Planning Division represents a formal, structured approach to achieving the company’s objectives and to implement the corporate strategy of an organization. Some areas that the Corporate Planning Division monitors are: Quality Management; Corporate/ Organizational Development; and Strategic Management.

6 ntM HeaDquartersThe Nishimoto Trading Manufacturing (NTM) Headquarters is responsible to sell Asian food products which are sold in bulk to wholesalers, distributors and national retail markets. In addition, the Headquarters is responsible to process, package and export fresh and processed produce products to our customers. The headquarters is comprised of three divisions, which are NTM Product Development, U.S. Domestic Sales Division, and Produce Division.

7 nortH aMeriCan ntW HqNorth American Nishimoto Trading Wholesale (NTW) Headquarter is responsible to provide North America’s restaurant, grocery and retail stores with a wide variety of Asian food products. The headquarter is responsible for the product/ marketing operation which is comprised of three divisions (Sales Management, National Account and NTW Product Development) and the sales/ distribution operation which is divided into 4 regions which includes, Western, Eastern, Southern and Canada and supplies customers with Asian food products from 18 distribution centers located across North America.

3 aDMinistration HeaDquartersTo support the entire organization the Administration Headquarters is the central management and administrative support for Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. The Administration Headquarter is headed by the Administration Vice President, and is comprised by two divisions.

9 u.s. DoMestiC salesThe U.S. Domestic Sales Division works with grocers, distributors and wholesalers. The division offers custom programs; customized production and packaging for all processed and frozen products, preferred buy status programs, volume programs and more. The division is able to receive and process shipments from any one of our branch locations. All of our branch offices have their own processing, distribution, and sales operation, which enable the Company to offer delivery throughout North America. The U.S. Domestic Sales Division is comprised by the following sections:

Food Services, which concentrates on selling Nishimoto products to 1. wholesalers and other distribution companies.Retail services, concentrates on selling Nishimoto products to 2. American retail stores.

11 intl Business planningThe International Business Planning Department is responsible to develop innovative approaches towards expansion into the international markets by conducting market research, creating marketing plans, and business plans for future global and economic growth.

15 ntW proDuCt DevelopMentThe NTW Product Development Division strives to bring the latest in retail items for the palate and will assist in the marketing of certain items for sales promotion for the branch offices. This division also focuses on supplying high quality goods to Nishimoto customers all across the nation. The division is responsible for obtaining goods and services at the lowest reasonable cost while maintaining optimal standards. The division has become more proactive in marketing different food products in North America by communicating with numerous vendors, producers, processors, packagers, and consumer to see what the latest demand in Asian Food products are. The division is the first stage in generating and commercializing new products within the strategic process of its life cycle management, used to increase our market share. The division’s responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

Development and marketing of grocery and restaurant products in 1. North AmericaRaising public awareness of Nishimoto’s products2. Coordinating and participating events and special activities3. Determining the service needs of customers4. Research and development of new and upcoming products5. Acquiring formal and informal bid quotations6. Inspecting delivered goods into the warehouse from local and 7. overseas sourcesConserving outstanding quality of products in accordance with the 8. FDA and other regulations

12 export DivisionExport division markets domestic and imported food product across the world to food service distributors, major chains and independent operators. Export division is responsible to expand on relationships already formed with customers to tap into the relationships that have been made with suppliers, vendors, and any other individuals and business to export Nishimoto products in the global market. This division is responsible in assessment of marketing or sales opportunities and target markets; gather information regarding customers, competitors; generate leads for possible sales; advising on, drafting and enforcing sales policies and processes; exporting Nishimoto products; and create business model designs for the company.

13 sales ManageMentSales Management Division is mainly responsible to monitor the sales efficiency, risk management, cost structure, logistics, and operation for Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. The division will also monitor inventory and account receivable to improve cash flow of the company to identify internal process issues and provides solutions.

14 national aCCount DivisionThe National Account Division develops and executes strategic value by adding account plans, services and processes that contribute to the growth and success of the clients account and Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. They develop and maintain key client relationships that enable Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. to be the first and only resource considered for Asian food

products and services. They ensure contract renewals and expansions to all lines of their business. They act as a point of escalation for customer issues in order to respond quickly to their requests. The division is also in charge of the account management team to ensure that they meet business growth objectives. This division is responsible in understanding customer needs, leveraging and maintaining business relationships.

1912MAY

Mokichi Nishimoto established the Nishimoto General Store in Kobe City, a trading house dealing in import and exports. His primary focus was exporting Japanese foodstuff to Japanese living abroad in the United States.

1920JULY

Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd (Japan) opened of�ce in Seattle.

1921NOVEMBER

The “Shirakiku” (A PB brand for exported foodstuff) became the registered trademark for Nishimoto.

1941NOVEMBER

During World War II, the assets of the Seattle Branch were frozen and the business was put on hiatus.

1947SEPTEMBER

After the war, coinciding with the resumption of private trade, the Nishimoto Trading Co., Ltd. (Japan) was founded with $180,000 in capital. The Tokyo Branch was established.

1959JANUARY
