Nitai Chalisa Translation

All glories to Sri Guru and Their Lordships Sri Nitai Gauranga. I offer humble prayers at your lotus feet. ||1||

All glories to Lord Sankarshan, all glories to Lord Balaram. All glories to Lord Nityananda, all glories to the abode of

eternal happiness. ||2||

All glories to the star of Padmavati Devi’s eyes, and the loving son of the pure-hearted brahmin Hadai Pandit ||3||

All glories to the Master of Srimati Jahnava and Vasudha devi, the beloved Lord of their life Who brings to them

unlimited joy and happiness. ||4||

He is the Father of Virabhadra Gosai. He brought Gangadevi to this world as His daughter due to His

compassion.||5||

He is Sri Sankarshan, the Lord of the three worlds. He is the original cause of the creation, maintenence and destruction of the whole cosmic manifestation. ||6||

He lies in the causal ocean as Karanodakshayi Vishnu. He dwells in everyone’s heart as the omniscient supersoul

(Kshirodakshayi Vishnu). ||7||

He bears the whole creation on His head as Ananta Shesh. He exhibits the form of the spiritual master, devotional

service and the devotee. ||8||

Page 9: Nitai wishfulfilling daily recitation Prayers

Devoid of anger, He is the embodiment of supreme spiritual bliss. He is the absolute truth. His transcendental

form is the eternal truth. ||9||

He is eternally youthful, and His bright molten gold complexion is tinged with red. One attains a new life simply by seeing His graceful elephant-like gait. ||10||

He is Lord Haladhar adorned with a fine blue cloth. The beautiful earring decorating His ear gives great joy. ||11||

He is adorned with a necklace of elegant, lustrous pearls. The sweet sounds of the anklebells tinkling on His lotus

feet destroy the bonds material existance. ||12||

The appearance of Lord Nitai has purified the evil age of Kali. All the holy sages incessantly sing of Your extraordinary and supernatural glories. ||13||

Although He is directly the elder Brother of Krishna, still He manifests the mood of a devotee surrendered to the

Lord. Lord Balaram is the personification of loving devotional service to Krishna. ||14||

He is the topmost bestower of Krishnaprem and the reservoir of divine love for Krishna. He is the greatest renunciate, being completely detached from material objects, and the crest jewel of all those maddened in

divine love. ||15||

Taking the form of an umbrella, cloth and throne, He serves Lord Krishna’s divine form constantly day and night

in various ways. ||16||

Nitai relishes all the splendid mellows of divine love for Sri Krishna, and He is the causeless bestower of pure loving

mellows of love of Krishna. His divine body is the manifestation of all the rasas, and He is the ultimate

controller of everyone’s fate.||17||

Page 10: Nitai wishfulfilling daily recitation Prayers

Lord Nityananda is consummately cognizant and enrapt in the science of loving mellows (rasa). Lord Nityananda is the crest jewel and the topmost of all enjoyers of pure

loving mellows. He is the abode of all rasa. He is adored and revered by all the rasikas (those who are expert in

relishing the loving mellows of pure devotional service to Krishna). He is the best among all the rasikas and thus

known as the King of Rasa. ||18||

He is the loyal servant of Shri Gauranga and His constant companion. He accepts the role as the dearest elder brother and friend of Gaur, always bringing immense

pleasure to the Lord. ||19||

He expanded His transcendental pastimes in Sri Navadvipa, and delivered all the moving and nonmoving

living entities in Neelachal. ||20||

Nitai is the ocean of mercy and compassion, always restless to distribute that mercy in order to purify others. He does not take notice of whether or not the recipient of

His causeless mercy is qualified or not. ||21||

Raising His two lotus hands in ecstasy, Lord Nitai takes Gauranga’s name. Symptoms of divine love like

horripilation, shivering and shedding profuse tears are constantly seen manifesting on His divine body. ||22||

Holding His breath for an unlimitedly long time, He loudly roars in exaltation. In this way He exhibits boundless

ecstastic symptoms, revealing all the confidential ashta sattvik vikaras (symptoms of divine

ecstasy due to the overflow of bhavas). ||23||

Nitai reveals the unlimited glories of Gaurnam, and grants everyone the essence of Harinam. ||24||

He is always intoxicated floating in the divine ambrosial of Gaurnam. His lotus eyes constantly roll about in ecstasy. ||

25||

Page 11: Nitai wishfulfilling daily recitation Prayers

He begs the whole world to chant the name of Gauranga. He is the distributer of the priceless gem of Harinam. ||

26||

With every single breath He constantly chants Gauranga’s name repeating “Gaura! Gaura!’. He goes door to door

chanting ‘Gauranga’. ||27||

The two brothers Jaghai and Madhai were extremely degraded and fallen, with heavy burdens of sin. They were

envious of the cows and brahmins, and always in a drunken state. ||28||

They mercilessly struck the Lord’s head, causing streams of blood to continuously flow down the Lord’s tender

body. ||29||

Yet the merciful Lord made the two grievious offenders hear the name of Gaurhari. He affectionately embraced the two murderers who attacked Him and attempted to

cause Him severe pain, clutching them to His chest. ||30||

He purified the whole universe. Nitai freely distributed the nectar of divine love which is difficult to attain even for

the demigods. ||31||

Who is more generous and benevolent than this merciful Lord in the entire creation? He grants one the treasure of

prema without any restrictions. ||32||

Concerned for the degraded, wicked and impure souls of Kaliyuga, He delivered each and every soul one by one. ||

33||

He is the greatest friend of the fallen souls, the most benevolent deliverer of the fallen. He destroys the

countless sins of the fallen souls. ||34||

He deemed all the other troublesome processes as insignificant, and instead He preached about the glories of

developing love and devotion to the holy name. ||35||

Page 12: Nitai wishfulfilling daily recitation Prayers

He is the bestower of pure love and only begs for pure love. He teaches about the science of pure love, which is

the greatest wealth of one’s life. ||36||

He is the carrier of love of Godhead and a desire fulfilling tree. He awards one with pure love and snatches away all

their sins and miseries. ||37||

I offer obeisances at the lotus feet of Lord Nityananda again and again. Oh Lord, where will you see a soul as fallen as me? Which soul can be more degraded than

myself? ||38||

I offer myself at the lotus feet of my Lord and Master Nityananda again and again, begging for His shelter. He is the sustainer of everyone’s life and has taken a promise

to maintain all the souls at every moment. ||39||

This servant of Nitai constantly sings His glories, aspiring for the lotus feet of Gaursundar and Radha Kund vas. ||
