Sixteen-year-old Rajni made

her way to meet her teammates

after her 3-0 win over Ragini

Upadhyay of Uttar Pradesh in

the women’s 46 kg final of the

2nd Junior Women Boxing

Championship at the

Chandigarh University. After

accepting the congratulatory

messages, the diminutive boxer

soon headed to the milk booth

corner outside the hall. She

gulped down a glass of milk.

Then she carefully wrapped

her medal in a cloth and put it in

her bag. She wanted to make

sure that the medal was

carefully kept till she was able

to present it to her father Jasmer

Singh.

Rajni knows the daily struggle

her father goes through to

ensure that she can box. He

spends 12 hours a day selling

lassi in Panipat for Rs 8 a glass.

The medal, the girl from Buana

Lakhu knows, will make her

IPL auctions: Varun Chakaravarthy spins his way

to Rs 8.4 crore from base price of Rs 20 lakhNew Delhi, Dec 19

Varun Chakaravarthy would

surely be the man to watch

out for in the 2019 edition of

Ind ian Premier League

considering he emerged as

one of the most expensive

players to be bought during

Tuesday's auction for the T20

tournament.

Not many expected

Chakaravarthy to fetch big

bucks when his name was

f irst announced at the

auctions. He did have the

statistics to interest franchises

but to go from a base price of

Rs 20 lakh to a final bid of Rs

8.4 crore is something that

even he, perhaps, would not

have expected. The 26-year-

old was bought af ter an

intense bidding war between

a number of franchises and

Shakib Al Hasan fined for shouting at umpireDhaka, Dec 19

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al

Hasan was fined 15 percent of

his match fee for shouting at the

umpire during Monday's

opening Twenty20

international against West

Indies, the International Cricket

Council said.

Shakib was also handed one

demerit point, his second such

penalty since the introduction

of the system in September

2016, for the offence during

hosts' eight-wicket defeat.

Shakib now has two demerit

points, having been handed

one for an offence during a

Twenty20 against Sri Lanka in

March this year.

Shakib showed dissent while

batting after the umpire did not

call a wide in the 14th over of

the Bangladesh innings.

"He first shouted at the umpire

and then got involved in a

prolonged discussion," said an

ICC statement issued late

Tuesday. "After the end of the

match, Shakib admitted the

offence and accepted the

sanction," it said, adding no

formal hearing was required.

Punjab. The interest in

Chakaravarthy can perhaps

be attributed to how the spinner

fared in the Tamil Nadu Premier

League where he played a key

role in helping Siechem

Madurai Panthers claim the

trophy. He would claim nine

wickets in the tournament at an

extremely stingy economy of

4.7 per over. And as if that was

not enough to highlight his

resume, Chakaravarthy then

made his mark in the Vijay

Hazare Trophy in which he

claimed 22 wickets at an

economy of 4.22 per over.

Those who know him and

have been following his on-field

performances swear by his

deadly spin and his ability to

have as many as seven

variations to outfox batsmen

with. That he began playing

cricket as a medium pacer is

not known to many and it was

injury that made him

concentrate on spin.
