Nitrogen generators

Novair has designed a high efficiency nitrogen generator based on the PSA technology. This is the perfect response to industrials that need high purity nitrogen and want to gain autonomy while reducing their operating costs.

This technology allows the production of a stable and continuous flow of high to ultra-high purity nitrogen. As a guarantee of these very high purity levels, Novair nitrogen generators feature measurementand analyzing devices specially adapted to measuring very low rates of components outside nitrogen in the output gas.

From ambient air to nitrogen:the PSA technologyNovair nitrogen generator is based on the PSA technology: two vessels filled with carbon molecular sieve (CMS) are alternatively pressurized with compressed air to separate nitrogen present in air.

Ambient air contains 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen, 0.9% argon and 0.1% of rare gases. At high pressures, the CMS preferentially adsorbs oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor from air, and lets nitrogen gas pass through. While one vessel adsorbs, the other regenerates by pressure reduction. Through the depressurization phase, the CMS releases the oxygen and other rare gases into the atmosphere.

Carbon molecularsieve

Electronics High purity nitrogen is used in the electronics industry to improve the soldering process by protecting it from oxidation: it reduces the drosses on solder points and ensures a better joint quality.

Food & Beverages packaging & processing Displacing oxygen with nitrogen prevents the growth of bacterias and microbes responsible for the alteration of packed foodstuffs and beverages. Nitrogen is also used to purge air from transportation pipes and tanks, improving freshness and extending shelf life. The production of beverages such as wine, beer, or juices also requires nitrogen to prevent from oxidation and preserve taste.

Laser cutting In laser cutting, high purity and high pressure nitrogen is required to ensure a clean-cut, and make it easier to weld and paint the cut metal. Also, nitrogen prevents from oxidation and protects the metal from corroding.

Marine Nitrogen is used to create an inert atmosphere on ships, tankers and vessels carrying oil products, chemicals, LNG, LPG and similar products. The transportation of food and beverages also requires nitrogen to create optimized preservation conditions in the cargo.

Oil & Gas / Chemicals In the oil & gas / chemical industry, the control of gas or vapor explosion hazards is key, and nitrogen provides greater safety. Displacing oxygen by inert nitrogen, is the safest way to prevent explosions. Nitrogen is also used to eliminate moisture during pressurizing or for the blanketing or inerting of storage tanks.

Injection molding Nitrogen is used in the plastics industry for its ability to contact melts at high temperatures without introducing oxidation or splay. The injection of nitrogen during the molding cycle improves the efficiency of the process and the quality of molded plastic products.

Novair introduces a PSA oxygen generator designed to produce oxygen at a concentration of 93% ±3% to 99.5%, with an exceptional stability.

Advanced PSA technology foroxygen production

Novair oxygen generators are based on a patented implementation of the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) process, a static separation of air gases thanks to a specific molecular sieve that adsorbs nitrogen under pressure.

The oxygen generator is mainly composed of two separation vessels filled with molecular sieve (zeolites) adsorbers. As compressed air pressurizes one vessel, the nitrogen is progressively retained by the molecular sieve and the oxygen goes straight to the outlet of the generator.

When the vessel is approaching nitrogen saturation, the process switches to the second vessel and the adsorbed nitrogen in the first vessel is released into the atmosphere. The cycle is then repeated under computerized control in order to produce high purity oxygen continuously.

Zeolite

Fish farming An oxygen rich environment is necessary to grow healthy fishes. The addition of oxygen in fish farms ponds ensures a proper oxygen balance while fish production density is rising.

Glass manufacturing Oxygen is used in the glass industry to enhance combustion. This process has proved to significantly improve furnace performance, and therefore increase production, decrease fuel consumption, reduce emissions and improve glass quality.

Healthcare Whether it is for surgery purposes or oxygenotherapy, availablility of a reliable oxygen supply is critical for healthcare facilities. Novair oxygen generators are CE marked devices and are compliant with ISO 10083 & ISO 7396-1. They exceed the quality requirements of the European and US Pharmacopeias.

Metal industry For cutting and brazing, pure oxygen is used instead of air to increase the flame temperature and allow localized melting of the work piece metal.

Petrochemicals The use of oxygen in a petrochemical oxidation process allows an increase of the oxidation capacity while reducing operating costs.

Veterinary Veterinary clinics use oxygen to stabilize animals during and after surgery.

Waste water treatment The use of pure oxygen accelerates the degradation of organic components in sewage water, prevents from the emission of H2S in waste water pipes, and maximizes the efficiency of ozone generators used for waste water treatment.

Wine making Wine makers from France and all over the world use the process of micro-oxygenation to optimize the color, aromatic bouquet, mouth-feel and phenolic content of their wine.

Plug and play solutionsSupplied on a turnkey basis, Novair PSA generators are mounted on a compact skid to allow an easy installation on site. All components (main cabinet, valves, manifolds and vessels) are preassembled on the skid in our factory, so that installation, start up and commissioning are generally completed within a few days.

For those who do not have any technical room available for the plant, Novair can manufacture and deliver turn key oxygen or nitrogen plants mounted in a cabin or container specifically designed for outdoor use.

These all-in-one containerized plants can be ready for operation very quickly after arrival on site. The cabins and containers do not require any construction aside from a paving stone. Besides, the system is totally mobile for greater flexibility.

Touch screen control panelNovair PSA generators are automatically controlled and monitored by CPU Controller©, a PLC based system composed by a logic controller, a high definition colour touch screen and an ergonomic control panel. Main information such as outlet gas purity, hour meters and active defaults list are displayed on the CPU digital screen. Very easy to use, the CPU Controller is available in different languages.

Patented molecular sieve protection systemTo guarantee that the molecular sieve is not damaged by oil/water mixture coming from the air compressor, all Novair PSA generators feature a patented protection system which stops the oxygen/nitrogen production process before the molecular sieve could be damaged.

Test certificateEvery PSA generator manufactured at NOVAIR is tested and approved on a cutting edge tailor made bench and is delivered with a serialized quality & test certificate, signed by one of our quality inspectors. All applicable regulatory certificates such as CE certificates, pressure vessels certificates, free sale certificate are also supplied as part of the PSA generator documentation.

Trouble free maintenanceNovair PSA generators require a very light servicing: regular maintenance is limited to the replacement of filtering elements every 6 months. Also, the ergonomic cabinet allows excellent accessibility to the components, so that all maintenance tasks can be carried out though one single side of the generator.
