Sunday Morning Bible Study
Welcome to UBC!
These words are being spoken and heard a lot these days, “Welcome to UBC!”
University students are appearing on The Corner once again. New resi-dents to our community are settling in as well. A number of these newcom-ers are already finding their way to our church, and many more will be
showing up in the coming weeks. To them we extend our hand, smile, and say, “Welcome to UBC! We have been expecting you!”
So in the coming Sundays, let us open wide our doors and show warm, Christian hospitality to our new and returning students, and to any other guests who attend worship with us!

UBC Community Dinner Groups
Would you like to make new friends and deepen current relationships within your church family?
This fall we would like to resume “UBC Community Dinner Groups.” Dinner groups will consist of 8-10 people, from a variety of ages and walks in life, for a once a month din-ner. Generally the way it works is to rotate homes, the host provides the main dish, with other group members providing sides and dessert. Dinners can be any night of the week the group chooses, and even Dutch-treat at a restaurant.
If you would like to be assigned to a dinner group, go to universitybap-tist.org/2013/08/community-dinner-groups/, or call the church office. If you have questions call Sarah Buchanan 434-409-9064.

A Word From Michael
It’s hard to believe that the summer is over and the school year has begun. Signs of the new school year are evi-dent throughout Charlottesville — yel-low school buses, UVA students walk-ing on grounds and at the Corner, more traffic, and long lines in restaurants and grocery stores! My children started classes last week, and they are back into the routine of doing home-work every school night and taking tests at the end of the week. It’s good to see them back in school and learn-ing new things. Education is so very important to the welfare of our chil-dren and their future.
Likewise, religious education is so very important for the growth and ma-turity of followers of Jesus Christ. After all, the word “disciple” means being a learner and a pupil.
Therefore, I invite you to get involved in our Sunday morning Bible study classes. A full list of our classes is listed on the front page of this issue of The Word.
On Sunday, September 8, we will rec-ognize all our Sunday morning Bible study teachers in worship. We will also give out Bibles to our new First Graders.
In addition to Sunday morning classes, our graded children’s choirs and our Wednesday night programming will resume next week.
I hope you’ll take advantage of the educational and fellowship opportuni-ties offered by the church starting in September. I’ll see you in class!
~Michael
