Will parents please note that they have all received a revision folder for organising their work and this week I have distributed a data stick to each student containing the revision material for the core subjects. On this stick, there is still memory space for option subject material to be stored, and there is a folder containing guidance on how, when and where to revise. I have been impressed with the efforts shown through this week’s mock exams, and the numbers attending revision sessions, including the one for parents. If there are any questions about how to support your child please do not hesitate to contact the specific subject teacher or, for more general concerns, the Year Office. There are a number of qualification events that will cross over curriculum time (eg Art exams, Drama moderation and Duke of Edinburgh Assessments). Students do have these dates and I strongly urge them, where necessary, to check with other subject teachers before the event so that work is completed ahead of it. Year 10 have also taken their first mock exams and may be commended for their efforts. Year 9 students have now completed the first two terms of the Key Stage 4 courses and I have been impressed by their engagement and progress. Year 8 students are making their choices through this half-term and, again, if there are concerns at any point in the process please do not hesitate to contact the Year Office for clarification. Finally, congratulations to students whose work was part of the fashion show in February, a high standard was achieved across the board, and well done also to those from different year groups who were modelling the dresses. Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s)

It is at this time of year that a lot of focus necessarily turns towards Year 11 and the preparation for their final

exams. Will parents please note that they have all received a revision folder for organising their work and

this week I have distributed a data stick to each student containing the revision material for the core

subjects. On this stick, there is still memory space for option subject material to be stored, and there is a

folder containing guidance on how, when and where to revise.

I have been impressed with the efforts shown through this week’s mock exams, and the numbers attending

revision sessions, including the one for parents. If there are any questions about how to support your child

please do not hesitate to contact the specific subject teacher or, for more general concerns, the Year

Office.

There are a number of qualification events that will cross over curriculum time (eg Art exams, Drama

moderation and Duke of Edinburgh Assessments). Students do have these dates and I strongly urge them,

where necessary, to check with other subject teachers before the event so that work is completed ahead

of it.

Year 10 have also taken their first mock exams and may be commended for their efforts. Year 9 students

Donate a Book

If anyone has any books or magazines that are gathering dust at home

and are no longer used nor wanted which are suitable for ages 11-19,

please could you consider donating them to the school. They will be an

invaluable resource to us and would be used by many for several years to come.

The Wey Valley School Learning Resource Centre is a thriving learning environment attracting

many students daily to use the IT suite, read in a relaxed atmosphere or to access the many

resources we have available. Trying to keep up-to-date with literature in an ever changing world

is very difficult and extremely expensive.

So, it is for this reason, I am making a plea to you. Do you have any books that you have read

and enjoyed that you no longer require and you think could be of benefit, please send them

into school with your child. There will be a box in the library where donations will be gratefully

received. Alternatively, there will also be a box in the school reception for you to deposit any

books.

Thank you to all those of you that have already contributed.

Mrs Glynn

Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s)

On-line payments are coming!

I am pleased to announce that on-line payments will be coming soon for school trips, stationery,

school meals and ties and badges. The school will be using a system called WisePay and this will

be accessible through the school website. Further information on how to use the system, including

access and guidance notes will follow later this month as we wish to ‘go live’ after Easter and also

start cashless catering from the 30th June.

The School Council, senior staff and governors have been consulted on the new system with many

benefits on offer to students, parents and carers…..

No need for students to bring cash or cheques into school. Students to pay through

fingerprint technology for school meals.

Easy to read and user friendly on-line system for parents to view trips (including letters),

available stationery in school, ties badges and show daily student purchase information in

the Diner / Goldfish bowl.

Much faster queuing times for students in the Diner and Goldfish Bowl.

Students eligible for Free School Meals will no longer need to collect their ticket and will

instead use their fingerprint to collect their meal.

All meals to include nutritional information to ensure school menu is compliant with the

National Food Trust – students to be rewarded VIVO points for healthier meals.

Parents can set daily limits on spend in the Diner or Goldfish Bowl.

For school shows and performances, parents, carers and students will be able to pay and

select their seat in the Will Mackaness Hall all on-line.

As this is a significant change in school, there will be the added option for students, parents and

carers to top-up student accounts in school through a revaluation paying-in unit and through the

school finance team.

Letters will be going out to parents later this month with much more information on WisePay and

the many benefits the new system will offer.

If you have any queries or comments, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Cole, Finance &

Business Manager on 01305 817017 or by email at [email protected]

Year 8 Options and Careers Impartial Information, Advice and Guidance

I would like to remind parents of Year 8 students that your son/daughter is supported in

school through the options process with information, advice and guidance and that many

of the careers resources and careers information programmes are also available for

access at home.

Year 8 students have received the school logon and password for the Ansbury online

Adviser at http://adviseronline.ansbury.co.uk where they can access Live Web Chat with

one of Ansbury’s qualified careers advisers or make use of the Careercomp@nion which

links to approved careers information websites.

Students have also used the diagnostic careers programme ‘Launchpad’, where they

can identify their own skills and look at how these may link to subject choices and careers.

They can re-visit this at home and carry out further careers research.

http://launchpad.cascaid.co.uk/LoginPage

Students will all receive an individual interview to discuss their option choices. These will

take place either with our Connexions (Ansbury) Personal Adviser, with Mrs Critchell or with

a member of the senior management team.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch:
