No Place is Safe From Abolitionists …Not Even Downtown San Francisco Dear World Life Supporters, If you were to go to the most antiChristian, pro-abortion place on earth, with a message of the Gospel and a message to abolish human abortion, where would you go? No Place is Safe From Abolitionists…Not Even DowntownSan Francisco

Dear World Life Supporters,If you were to go to the most antiChristian, pro-abortion place on earth, with a message of the Gospel and a message to abolish human abortion, where would you go? Would it not be downtown San Francisco on a Saturday? Well, that is exactly what you helped World Life to accomplish in January.

In my almost 10 years of full-time ministry, this was the biggest and most powerful project in which I have ever participated. We were able to shine light into one of the most spiritually darkened places on earth, exposing the bad news of abortion and sharing the Good News of the gift of Christ.

Abolitionists arrived in San Francisco to cast down the argument that image bearers of God can be killed in the womb. Read on to hear what World Life supporters helped to make possible that historical day.

Introducing Abolitionism to the Tolerant City of San Francisco While Jumbotron TV technology has been around for a while, never before has a Jumbotron unit been brought into downtown San Francisco—let alone one playing videos that exposed the horrible reality of abortion.

We give thanks to God for making this possible. It required almost two months of jumping through hoops, including a legal battle, to get the required permits and necessary permissions to be able to bring in the 17 foot long and 18 foot tall trailer onto 5th and Market Street.

My wife, Jennifer, did a majority of the work to secure one of the busiest intersections in San Francisco, the scene of downtown shoppers, vendors and the famous cable car turnaround.

Amazingly, city officials and police cooperated with Jennifer, even though most San Francisco city employees consider us a radical organization. Ironically, resistance to our presence came from an unlikely source…or maybe not so unlikely. Stay tuned for a future newsletter where we will share more about that.

Is Feeling Guilty a Bad Thing? The Jumbotron was in place and playing video by 9:30 a.m. We had 30 foot soldiers of Christ mingling with the crowd and talking with the

locals. They handed out literature, shared the Gospel, and

e x p l a i n e d “abolitionism.”

Later in the day, a fellow

a b o l i t i o n i s t and volunteer,

Jeremiah, had this experience:

“Another woman confronted me later in a quieter place and shared that she was 60+ years old and had had an abortion when she was 17. She said it was a bad situation; a bad person; a mistake. And she had this abortion and had lived her whole life and never thought about it and never worried about it and was never upset about it. But she said we had to stop showing the images and talking about abortion … it was causing her to feel guilty. I shared with her that we could stop showing the video and talking about abortion, but that only blood of Jesus Christ could cleanse her of her guilt. Amazing! Can you believe that opportunity?!” *

That story illustrates what abolition is about and why World Life is is an abolitionist ministry. I want you, our partners, to fully understand the mighty work you are supporting.

We are not merely working to abolish abortion. We are fighting to demolish the worldview that makes abortion acceptable. Only the Gospel can do that. Abolitionism is about sharing the bad news of sin such as abortion, but also sharing the good news of the Gospel.

What Increases Our Joy?When we consider what we desire most for those we love, and even for our enemies, is it not that they turn from their sin, find forgiveness, be freed from the power of sin, and find salvation in Christ? What matters more than that? Jesus said it best: “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world yet forfeit his soul?”

A few weeks after our outreach in San Francisco, video recordings of the event had been posted by many people and shared around the world. The following message came to the Abolish Human Abortion (AHA) Facebook page regarding one of the San Francisco videos that had been shared on the AHA Youtube channel.

The MAIN Reason We Were In San Francisco Might Surprise YouWe did not pick just any Saturday to be in San Francisco. We intentionally picked the same day and location as the annual West Coast Walk for Life (WFL). This is the largest pro-life event on the West Coast where upwards of 50,000 pro-life folks gather, listen to speakers, and then march through downtown as a public witness against abortion. It is a very good thing.

Our primary goal that day with the Jumbotron, however, was to reach the thousands of pro-life marchers with a message of encouragement

and exhortation. Many of these people are not regularly involved in fighting abortion or sharing the Gospel. Our message was to encourage them to do more than just march once a year.

Abolitionism is a daily, active, and consistent fight. We will not end the genocide of our age by fighting it with a periodic event-driven strategy whereby we wait for the next big event (a march or a walk) planned by some pro-life organization. Instead, we must take individual responsibility and work daily to be a witness against the evil of abortion and a witness of the hope we have in Christ.

World Life’s purpose from the

beginning has been to activate and support other Christians into effective action for saving babies and saving souls. We do not want people to think that fighting abortion is something only the professionals do. It is something we all must do. We believe this is God’s desire for His people.

Some might think we were preaching to the choir when we directed our Jumbotron message at the pro-life people attending the WFL. We could not disagree more. A low frequency participation in pro-life activities will not concern our enemy. But when we get serious about a daily walk with Christ and an ongoing witness against child sacrifice, our enemy gets concerned. And rightly so.

During the event in San Francisco, unbeknownst to us, a journalist/news blogger was covering the pro-life and “pro-choice” events happening that day. Her pictures and stories of what happened were amazing, partly because she is not an abolitionist, but holds a “pseudo-pro-choice-secular” view.

Her story begins at the pro-abortion rally happening a few miles away from our location. After the pro-abortion folks “celebrated” their right to abortion, they marched down to our location and went into a rage.

The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) was prepared. They double-barricaded our area to provide a safety buffer from enraged pro-abortionists. If the SFPD had not been there, I am certain we would have been dragged out of town and stoned.

World Life staff person and abolitionist Todd Bullis shares the

Gospel with these young ladies by starting with the “good

person” test. The good person test is something we all fail.

When we hold our lives up to God’s standard, we see we are

hopeless. Then we share the good news of Christ and that he

alone saves us from our hopeless state.

The Jumbotron in this location gave us a wonderful opportunity to expose the reality of abortion and to share the Gospel. Besides reaching the masses with the Jumbotron screen and amplified sound, our 30 volunteers were able to conduct one-on-one conversations with the crowd.

Those who participate in abolitionist

events share thoughts like

these that came from one of our

volunteers. Abolition everyday.

Many of the WFL marchers are people who do not regularly participate in abolitionism. Our message to them was that loving your neighbor is something we must do every day not once a year. Our message was also that we need to love the “least of these” and that the pre-born child is just that.

World Life intends to help grow the

abolitionist movement throughout

the United States by doing more

of these events.

At the Oakland airport the day before

the event, Jennifer jumps through

the final hoop of securing the event

location. This was right after a brief

legal standoff with the city of San

Francisco. The city attempted to deny

us use of the plaza after the Walk for

Life organizers informed them of our

intent to use graphic video as part

of our presentation. Thankfully, God

provided us a good attorney; with the

threat of a First Amendment violation

lawsuit, the city capitulated. Jennifer

was the unsung hero for this event. We

couldn’t have been there without her

efforts.

Abolitionist Russell Hunter talks to some “pro-choice” ladies. One woman told Russell, “I am a millionaire because I had an abortion.” Go to the World Life website to see the video and watch what Russell said to this woman. We pray for people like this. The truth in love is what we need to give them. Video is at: WorldLife.com/blog search “millionaire”.

This woman kept screaming at me that our abortion video was a lie. I asked her what part of the video she believed to be a lie. She said that the dismembered baby pictures were not real. This is a common objection, which brings to mind a couple things. The first is something that abolitionist Alexa Slead pointed out to me: Why is it so important to them that the pictures are not real?

Another point to be made is that this kind of objection is an indicator of the level of ignorance that many have regarding just how horrible abortion really is. It is so horrible that people cannot believe it is true. When people raise the objection that the abortion pictures are not real, one response is to tell them to look at any embryology textbook or website, which reveals the abortion images to be consistent with the anatomy of pre-born babies. In the picture above, I am showing the woman the developmental stages of growth diagrams in an embryology textbook to help her understand that the images are legitimate. She was still reluctant to believe. But, for the most part, people made in the image of God are rational beings. When truth corners you it is difficult to escape.
