From Sue

Reminder: Curriculum Day on Friday, 22 March – No school for children Childcare is available, however bookings must be made through Team Kids School Council Elections Following the close of the ballot last Wednesday, the counting process took place and the results were confirmed on Thursday. I declare the following parents duly elected to School Council: Elissa Booth parent of Lily Cahill in 5D Mary Chadjilazarou parent of Kristian in 6D and Matthew in 2A Fiona Loveland parent Tilly Parra in 6C John Papadimitriou parent of Sammy in 6D and Riva in 3C My sincere thanks go to the following parents who also nominated for council, who on this occasion were unsuccesful and thank them for their interest: Ashima Gera Kulkarni parent of Vedant Kulkarni in 6D and Anay in 2B Dana Marcus parent of Jasmyn in 6B and Phoebe in 3B Jill McCrone parent of Tom in 5C and Lili in 3A Fiona Nicholls parent of Isabelle in 6D and Olivia in 3E Our full membership on council includes:

Office bearers for 2019 were selected last night at our meeting. Congratulations go to: Fiona Loveland – President; Nicky Tracey - Vice President; John Papadimitriou – Treasurer and Alana Steele – Secretary. Two parents were co-opted on to council as community members: Mark Alexander as the coordinator of the Dad’s Club and Kath Blackham as a Fundraising Coordinator. Retiring councillors include: Fiona Nicholls, Kelly Anquetil and Nicole Jacobs. I extend my sincere thanks to each of the retiring councillors: Fiona Nicholls, Kellie Anquetil and Nicky Jacobs. Fiona has been a very active member on council for the last two years and on the Finance Committee for the last four years, two of which have been as Treasurer. She has extensive experience in financial management has demonstrated meticulous attention to detail. More recently Fiona has joined the Movers and Shakers team and has contributed profitably. Kelly has served on council and the Education Committee for the last two years. She has shown interest in all council discussions and displayed a measured and contemplative approach to all topics. I have appreciated her sincere interest in the educational programs on offer at Hampton. Nicky has served on council for the last three years, the Education Committee for one year and more recently a pivotal member of the Movers and Shakers Team. In addition, Nicky has provided very generous support for all fundraisers at the school, particularly those involving auctions. Nicky has made a wonderful contribution to our council and our community. Safe Access to and from School Recently I have received communication from neighbours in Ludstone Street about our students riding dangerously on the footpaths adjoining Ludstone Street, particularly after school. Children have been totally disregarding and disrespecting pedestrians on the footpath and riding too fast, rarely slowing down or stopping at intersections. I encourage parents to have a conversation with their children who ride to and from school. Grade 5 Camp Next week we have our 93 Grade 5s heading off to camp at Coonawarra in East Gippsland. This camp is a very popular one and offers some stimulating and at times challenging activities for our children. I wish our campers - children, parents and staff, a successful and enjoyable time away from school and home. I will be attending camp for the first three days and look forward to joining the activities with our children. Community Music

Last week Amy Simos, one of our school captains decided to enter the World’s Greatest Shave to support research into leukaemia. Amy’s great grandmother sadly died from cancer, and Amy is working hard to support this very worthwhile charity. During lunch time last Thursday, she had her head shaved by her hairdresser Catherine in front of an enthusiastic audience. Amy has sought support through her family and friends at school and has raised $4,768 to date. Initially Amy had set herself a goal of $1,000. Amy is to be congratulated on her efforts and initiative! Sue Knight Principal
