Goodbye to Abe and Shabina It is with some sadness that we say
goodbye this week to our ICT Technician, Abul Muhasin Bansheer
Kunjashan, and our Laboratory Technician, Shabina Muhasin. Abe and
Shabina will end their positions at the College on
Wednesday 14 June, in preparation for a move to Melton. We wish
them the very best for their future and thank them for their work
over the last eighteen months at the College. Motto for 2017-2018
Over the last few weeks I have received only a small selection of
suggested mottos for the 2017-2018 year. I have decided to allow a
week or two more for any further suggestions. The motto would
ideally reflect the focus this year on student voice and on the
need to respond to individual student needs. Policy Review 2017 As
per usual, the Policy and Planning Sub-Committee of the College
Council will review some of the College’s policy documents
throughout the remainder of the year. At the School Council meeting
of 19 June we intend to look at the current Uniform and Mobile
Phone Policies. I would welcome any feedback from parents and
carers prior to that meeting on these two areas. If you have
anything you would like the committee to consider, please call me
at the College on 55851277 or speak to one of the College
councillors. Year 10/11 Exams Elsewhere in this edition of Whytalla
is a copy of the Year 10-11 Exam timetable for this week. I
strongly urge all participating students to focus on completing
their exams to the best of their ability.

Recently the Victorian Government agreed to fund a vaccination
program for senior school students in order to protect them against
Meningococcal W, which is on the rise in Victoria. Your
son/daughter has received a vaccination card this week and has been
instructed to take it home to you. Please read the information
attached carefully. The immunizations are provided free of charge
and will be administered by Monica Feder, Child Maternal Health
Nurse from the West Wimmera Shire on Monday 7th August 2017.
Please fill out all details required, sign and return the
consent card to the school by Monday 26th June. Please note that
all cards must be returned to the school even if you do not wish
your son/daughter to be immunised.
If you have any further questions about the immunisations please
contact Monica Feder at the West Wimmera Shire on Tuesdays.
Val Tischler Student Wellbeing
Work Experience Year 10 students will be attending Work
Experience placements in the second last week of Term 2; Monday 19
June to Friday 23 June. Students are currently seeking suitable
placements that match their future career goals. Work Experience
options are available locally or state wide and there are
reciprocal rights available for placements in South Australia. Mrs.
Phyllis Zwar has all of the forms necessary. Please be advised that
Work Experience placements need fully signed documentation from the
Employer and the Principal. For that reason, timely arrangements
are essential to ensure all legal responsibilities of the School
have been met. Please be advised that school holiday placements are
not an option, again because of legal requirements. Career Expo
News. The 2017 Careers Expo at Longerenong will be held on Tuesday
27 June. All students from Years 9 through to 12 will be attending
the event. It is a great opportunity for students to talk to
University and TAFE personnel and large numbers of employer
groups.
Parents are most welcome to attend the event, however they will
need to make their own travel arrangements. Students will be
travelling by bus. I am currently meeting with Year 11 and 12
students for planning career pathways. This includes University,
TAFE and employment options. Parents with questions relating to
Career matters including Work Experience and the Careers Expo are
welcome to contact me through Xuno or by phone.

On the 26th of May the Year 9 students of Edenhope College
created a small restaurant celebrating world biomes for all members
of the community. In previous years, there was a ‘Medieval Feast’
and a ‘Biome Banquet’, each put on by past Year 9 students.
However, this year we decided we wanted to do something a little
more personal, a ‘Biome Restaurant’. We served 35 adults as well as
ourselves. Our Geography teacher Mr. Ian Shaw, suggested the event,
but allowed us to create the event any way we imagined. He told us
something that really inspired us. ‘Everything starts off as an
idea you can create anything from an idea.’ Just like that, we had
divided ourselves up into groups, and organised tasks ourselves. We
gained independence, co-operative skills and all took pride in the
environment we had created. When making the food, Mrs. Annabelle
Hawkins was a huge help. She got us all on track and made amazing
meals for the customers to enjoy. The day came and we had games,
activities, decorations and great food. Most of our class came to
school dressed up in clothes from biomes. We had 8 different teams.
Team 8 (the teachers) was the winning team and Miss Stephanie Fry,
our Studio Arts teacher, played an amazing round of Pictionary that
brought the win home. After the games were over, the class cleaned
up efficiently and rearranged the furniture back to a classroom
state before indulging in food and dessert to celebrate our
successes. Overall, the day was a successful and memorable for
everyone. We all developed new strengths and even learnt what our
personal skills were. Every process in the making was fun and
enjoyable. It was nice to see so many members of the community
talking and engaging with one another. A huge thank you to all the
members of the community, teachers and students that came and
supported our event. With a big thank you to Mr. Ian Shaw and Mrs.
Annabelle Hawkins for making the day possible.

RTG APSLEY RACES DRAWING COMPETITION
1st prize – $30 and a Show bag to MARLEE HENDERSON – Captures
all of the detail of a day at the Races, including some of the
attitude of the attendees. Great sense of atmosphere of a Race day!
2nd prize - $15 and a Show bag to JONAH IESE – Provides an
interesting perspective of the racecourse with lots of people shown
around the racecourse. We even get shown a race in action, but we
are not sure any women attended this Race day. 3rd prize - $10 and
a Show bag to JOHNNY NEALL – Lots of the details of a day at the
Races, great use of colour and a terrific sense of humour is
displayed by the artist. Honorable Mention – gift from Arts on
Ormerod (value $20) to AMELIA NELSON – Great use of colour and the
artist has captured a horse with personality

Year 8 Netball
Wednesday 31 May
From the get-go the girls played brilliantly together despite
the fact they hadn’t played together before. The first game set the
momentum for the day with a win and only one loss to Warracknabeal,
5-18 and a close win to Dimboola, 7-6. Tahlia and Danika did a
fantastic job at the defending end, picking off intercepts and
rebounds. The mid-court showed lots of versatility from Eloise,
Alana and Taffy. You would not have even known that Taffy doesn’t
play netball. Imogen held her own in goals, with both attacking and
defending. Erin was always there to help, running through the
centre. Clem and Brooke were outstanding in goals, with both their
positioning and shooting. All-in-all a successful day and the girls
should be congratulated on their efforts. Coach: Elyssa Hausler
Thank you to Abby Wall (Intermediate Netball Team) and Elyssa
Hausler (Year 8 Netball Team) for doing a wonderful job as coach
for the netball teams in Horsham.
