BLACK PANTHER

After stealing the show in Captain America: Civil War, T’Challa returns to his homeland of Wakanda to face much worthier opponents in Erik Killmonger and Man-Ape. In a surprising twist, Man-Ape will not be played by Andy Serkis.

THOR: RAGNAROK

(Walt Disney Studios/Marvel Studios) – 11/3/17Director: Taika WaititiStarring: Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson

What will survive the cataclysmic event known as Ragnarok? Not Thor’s fantastic mane, as the God of Thunder hits the barbershop for a fresh look in ‘17. Thor must do battle against Hela, Skurge, and a long-overdue rematch with his favorite sparring partner, The Hulk.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP

(Walt Disney Studios/Marvel Studios) – 7/6/18Director: Peyton ReedStarring: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Michael Douglas

Lured out with sugar cubes on a picnic blanket, Rudd is back in fighting shape and this time he’s joined by The Wasp! (For the record, Wasp was totally an Avenger before Cap, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Vision and Black Widow. Just sayin’.)

TO INFINITY…AND BEYOND!

JUSTICE LEAGUE

(Warner Bros./DC) – 11/17/17Director: Zack SnyderStarring: Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Ezra Miller, Amy Adams, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Eisenberg

BLACK LIGHTNING

(The CW) – 2017Creators: Salim Akil, Mara Brock SkilStarring: Cress Williams, China Anne McClain, Nafessa Williams, Christine Adams

Nine years after retiring, Jefferson Pierce is roped back into the vigilante life of Black Lightning when the neighborhood falls victim to a crime lord. With Katana and Stagg Industries (Metamorpho!), over on Arrow, could The Outsiders be too far behind?

TITANS

(DC Streaming) – 2018Producers: Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Sarah SchechterStarring: TBD

DC’s iconic team of superhero sidekicks is finally getting the live action treatment, but what line-up could we see?! Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy seem like no brainers, but will we get an Arrow-verse Cyborg, a la Flash? Will Dick Grayson be Robin? Will Wally West move over from Flash? Or maybe Bart Allen? Wonder Girl?

KRYPTON

(Syfy) – 2017Creator: David S. Goyer Starring: Ann Ogbomo, Elliot Cowan, Ian McElhinney, Aaron Pierre

Featuring all-new stories about Superman’s home planet 200 years before planetary disaster and Kal-El’s immigration to Earth. It’s nice to know when a TV series has an end date.

ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

SPOOOOOOOOOON! Everyone’s favorite nigh-invulnerable arachnid for justice returns in an all-new series with his trusty rabbit moth sidekick, Arthur. Naughty spawn, beware the mighty Tick!

SCALPED

(WGN America) – 2017Directors: Adil El Arbi, Bilall FallahStarring: Gil Birmingham, Alex Meraz, Irene Bedard

This modern-day crime story explores the power struggle on a Native American Indian Reservation when Dashiell Bad Horse returns to town and butts heads with Chief Red Crow. Think Casino meets Thunderheart, with nunchucks.

I KILL GIANTS

(1492 Pictures/Ocean Blue Entertainment) – 2017Directors: Anders WalterStarring: Zoe Saldana, Imogen Poots

A young girl navigates the hardships of life by escaping into a fantasy world of monsters and magic. WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT IS LIKE. #netflix #d&d #xbox #comics

KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE

The Brits and the Yanks team up to defeat a common enemy who holds the world hostage. Wait a minute…..this sounds a little familiar. Oh! Mr. Darcy & Magic Mike? Will there be water involved? Never mind, doesn’t matter, we’ll take two tickets, please.

THAT WAS A COMIC BOOK?

LOCKE AND KEY

(Hulu/IDW Entertainment) – 2018Executive Producers: Carlton Cuse, Joe HillStarring: TBD

After three siblings move into their ancestral home following the gruesome murder of their father, they discover an assortment of magical keys that give them bizarre abilities. The only bizarre ability we’ve ever had with that many keys is being heard coming from a mile away and ripping the seams out of our pants pocket.

ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL

(Twentieth Century Fox) – 7/20/18Director: Robert RodriguezStarring: Rosa Salazar, Jennifer Connelly, Michelle Rodriguez, Christoph Waltz, Jackie Earle Haley, Casper Van Dien, Jeff Fahey

The famous post-apocalyptic Japanese manga gets the Sin City treatment as Rodriguez brings the tale of a scrapheap cyborg with amnesia to life. Probably more exciting than our scrapheap cyborg, though we did teach ours to make margaritas.

Happy

(Syfy) – 2017Creators: Grant Morrison, Brian TaylorStarring: Christopher Meloni, Bobby Moynihan

After enjoying years of casual sex & murder, an ex-cop-turned-hitman’s life is turned upside down when a hit goes wrong. The result? A tiny, relentlessly positive, blue winged horse now follows him wherever he goes. We’re surprised it took years of murder to do that. Usually a night of bad tequila decisions would suffice.

Y: The Last Man

(FX) – 2017Creator: Brian K. VaughnStarring: TBD

Yorick Brown, the literal last surviving human with a Y chromosome, takes on a mission to discover what led to the extinction of the world’s male chromosomes. The guys around here are really hoping it wasn’t bacon.

ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLDTHAT WAS A COMIC BOOK, TOO?

COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE

All-New Wolverine/Old Man Logan – What is old is new is… well, the original Wolverine died, so these two series follow the tales of the original Logan’s daughter, Laura, and a future alternate-reality version of himself.

DC Bombshells – Set during World War II, this reimagines all your favorite DC super hero women with more victory rolls and red lipstick, though their butt-kicking prowess remains the same.

Detective Comics – This most recent series has collected a group of Bat-allies like Cassandra Cain and Batwoman, along with Clayface, who has a pretty great character arc as we learn that the longer he’s in clay form, the more…malleable his moral compass becomes.

Injustice: Gods Among Us – Based on the popular game, this series imagines a world where Superman is traumatized to the point that he decides pre-emptive and permanent justice is better. Batman, of course, disagrees and their world is torn asunder as the two sides battle it out.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur – The Marvel Team-Up we never knew we totally needed: a young super genius and a giant red dinosaur. Fun, fantastical stuff like this is kind of why we read comics in the first place.

Ms. Marvel – Kamala Khan blends the duality and teen angst of Spider-Man with the unfailing sincerity and conscientiousness of Wonder Woman. Books with her in them are fantastic, e.g. Champions, which also features Miles Morales, another of our faves.

Saga – We could say this is NOT a gorgeously-rendered series that blends mind-bending sci-fi with action, adventure, and romance, but then we’d be lying.

Spider-Gwen – The continuing adventures of Gwen Stacy’s arachnid heroine includes great dialogue, fresh takes on favorite characters, and art that is edgy and fun.

Tiny Titans – Robin, Superboy, Wonder Girl and many more can be found on these pages battling dirty bedrooms, playground bullies, and falling ice cream. They’re great for the little heroes in your life. AW YEAH TITANS!

Note: Both DC & Marvel have rebooted many of their books in the past year and it’s a great jumping-on point for fans of different characters in the superhero universes, as many of them are quite good.

100 Bullets – What would you do if someone gave you an untraceable gun with 100 untraceable bullets and evidence that one person ruined your life?

Astro City – The real central character of this series (featuring somewhat familiar characters) is the title city and the people who live there.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer – The series picked up where the show ended. The limitations of a TV budget were tossed out the window when pen and ink came into play.

Daytripper – This beautiful, award-winning graphic novel chronicles the life and death of a man who sees the world unlike anyone else.

DMZ – Follow the story of a reporter who sets out to cover both sides of the second American Civil War in a battle-torn Manhattan.

Ex Machina – An ex-hero that can speak to machines becomes mayor of New York City. The story alternates between current politics and past heroics.

Fables – Our favorite “gateway drug” to the world of comics asks, “What if all your favorite fairy tale characters had been exiled from their homelands, and were now living together in New York?”

Fear Agent – The story of an alcoholic survivor of an interplanetary invasion on Earth who slugs it out with alien

races across the galaxy.

Locke & Key – Coming in the next couple years to TV, this series is about ancient keys that are scattered throughout an old

mansion, each one unlocking a unique set of abilities in the user.

Lumberjanes – A group of girls encounter mysterious shenanigans happening in the woods around their summer camp.

Manifest Destiny – For you Old West period buffs, here’s an excellent horror series chronicling the secret monster-hunting

adventures of Lewis & Clark.

Morning Glories – Sort-of a “LOST” set in a high school. Brain-bendy.

Rat Queens – A foul-mouthed party of adventurers get into trouble in their fantasy realm. Repeatedly.

Rising Stars – The life story of a group of kids who are granted special abilities from a mysterious light in the sky.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz – Skottie Young & Eric Shanower have faithfully adapted Baum’s books in a beautiful and brilliant series of graphic novels.

COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE

BRIGHT

(Netflix) – December 2017Director: David AyerStarring: Will Smith, Noomi Rapace, Joel Edgerton

It’s just another Tuesday as a human cop and his Orc partner race to find a mystical weapon before it falls into the wrong hands. Mythical creatures living side by side with humans, what could possibly go wrong?!

MIDDLE-EARTH: SHADOW OF WAR (Video Game)

(Warner Bros. Interactive/Monolith Productions) – 10/10/17After conquering Orc and Troll armies throughout Middle Earth in Shadow of Mordor, it’s looking like we’ll get to lay our hands (and swords) upon Ringwraiths this time around! Bring it.

FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM 2

(Warner Bros.) – 11/16/18Director: David YatesStarring: Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Johnny Depp, Zoë Kravitz, Jude Law

The (mis)adventures of Newt Scamander continue as the stakes are raised with the inclusion of Gellert Grindelwald and a young Dumbledore. Might need to pack a few extra Thunderbirds. Maybe a Nundu.

COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE

TOMB RAIDER

(Warner Bros.) – 3/16/18Director: Roar UthaugStarring: Alicia Vikander, Walton Goggins, Dominic West

Lara Croft’s origin as an adventurer kicks off as she searches for her missing father on a remote island. For those of you unfamiliar with the critically acclaimed re-invention of the Tomb Raider series, Croft has traded in her trademark dual-pistols for a climbing axe and a bow. Legit badass.

RAMPAGE

(New Line Cinema) – 4/20/18Director: Brad PeytonStarring: Dwayne Johnson, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Not a lot is known about this adaptation of the popular ‘80s arcade game. Making our best guesses, we’d say Malin is playing Lizzie the lizard, Joe is Ralph the werewolf and Dwayne is George the ape.

WRECK IT RALPH 2: RALPH BREAKS THE

INTERNET

(Walt Disney Studios) – 11/21/18Directors: Phil Johnston, Rich Moore Starring: John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, James Corden, Alan Tudyk, and every Disney princess from Jodi Benson to Auli'i Cravalho!

We don’t normally include things in here that won’t come out before next year’s SDCC, but we’re unreasonably (yet justifiably) excited for more wreckage.

JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

(Columbia Pictures) – 12/20/17Director: Jake KasdanStarring: Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Jack Black

The biggest problem with being sucked into a vintage video game unexpectedly is that you don’t have enough time to hit up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start. Best keep an eye on your life meter! (To be fair, that’s generally good advice IRL, too.)

COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE

“…And knowing is half the battle.” – Following each episode of the popular G.I. Joe cartoon, foolish children learned safety tips about things like paint fumes, live electrical wires, and fire. (The other half of the battle is, of course, ¼ red lasers and ¼ blue lasers.)

AU – An abbreviation for Alternate Universe, this is the world where bloggers and fan fiction writers play, changing timelines, bringing characters back to life (or killing them off), or even blending universes together to create their own original stories (e.g. “SuperWhoLock”).

Big Bad – Originating in the Buffyverse, this describes the biggest villain a hero has to vanquish in a given story arc or season, usually after dispatching and destroying many Little and Medium Bads.

Bizarro – The name of a flawed Superman clone that does the opposite of everything he says. Often used to refer to someone behaving out of character.

Canon – The original collected works, storylines, and character qualities of a given franchise or universe that establish the overall mythology or continuity. Messing with canon—like sending Wolverine back in time instead of Kitty Pryde—can result in nerd rage, because it is, in fact, considered to be sacred. (See also “headcanon,” which are the unwritten facts that fans hold as true.)

Cosplay – Dressing up as your favorite fictional characters, usually with extremely detailed costumes. Variations include “crossplay,” where fans dress up as characters of the opposite sex.

Crit Fail – Short for critical failure, this

is what happens when you’re playing a tabletop game such as Dungeons & Dragons and you roll a 1, leading to you and your team’s horrible demise. Outside of gaming, it’s slang for a major screw up.

“Don't cross the streams.” – Originating in the film Ghostbusters, where the team crossed their particle beams to eliminate Gozer, this quote is now generally used by men having to urinate in close quarters.

Don't Panic – A phrase on the cover of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in an effort to keep intergalactic travelers from, well, panicking.

Enter the Carousel – In the cult sci-fi film Logan’s Run, everyone has a crystal in the palm of their hands that indicates their age. When they turn 30 on their “Lastday,” the crystals turn red and flash, and they enter a giant machine called the “Carousel,” where they’re “recycled” into a newborn. But not really. Really, it was just murder.

Excelsior! – Marvel legend Stan Lee uses this catchphrase to end his correspondence with his loyal readers or, as he calls them, “True Believers.” While this would typically appear at the back of Marvel comics, he has used it public appearances as well.

Full Dark No Stars – A take-no-prisoners approach to revenge that’s as scary as the Stephen King book it references.

“Game over, man! Game over.” – Uttered by the great Bill Paxton in the film Aliens, his braggart character

panics after their encounter with the vicious aliens that maul their team. This phrase was of course surrounded by various expletives as well. Aliens with multiple teeth, spiked tails and acid for blood tend to pull that reaction.

Geek Plague – Also known as “Nerd Flu,” this is the special brand of sniffles that infects convention attendees.

Griefer – These are the trolls of the gaming world, but not the cool kind with green skin that live under bridges & eat goats. They’re just human jerks that like to torment other gamers for fun.

Han shot first – In the 1997 re-release of Star Wars: A New Hope, fresh editing created a fundamental change to the character of Han Solo. In the original version, Han kills Greedo in the cantina mid-conversation, cementing his bad-ass status in the hearts and minds of millions. In the re-release, Greedo fires first, and Han shoots in self-defense. But really, Han shot first.

“I got better.” – From Monty Python & the Holy Grail to the Death of Superman, favorite characters are always returning from serious injury or death at some point or another. When asked, “I thought you were dead!” we typically get the response,

“I got better.”

“KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!” – Often quoted by someone claiming dominance after a victory, this command was first spoken by Terrance Stamp as Zod in Superman II.

Konami Code – The international not-so-secret gaming cheat code of up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start.

Next step: creating the dance moves to accompany it.

LARPers (Live Action Role Players) – Cosplay with quests and battles, set in the real world and performed in character. WARNING: Players are often armed with actual weapons. Usually Nerf weapons, but still.

Mind Meld – A Vulcan telepathy skill from Star Trek. This form of telepathy must be done through touch and works on humans, Vulcans, and, um, humpback whales.

MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) – Called MMO for short, these are for gamers who like to play against lots of people, but not actually be in the same room with them. It’s a place where you can virtually travel the world, meet new friends, and kill them.

“My Precious!” – Commonly used by Gollum in the Lord of the Rings series when he spoke of his invisibility ring, this phrase is now often used by geeks regarding various beloved personal items.

Nerd Nip – Catnip for nerds, this can be anything or anyone that gets a nerd bouncing off the walls or lolling around on the floor.

Nerdgasm – A nerd's sensory overload caused by the introduction of said nerd to the latest technology or fandom.

No-Maj – Literally short for “no magic,” it is how American witches and wizards refer to Muggles if they don’t want to sound like pretentious Anglophiles.

COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE

“One of Us! One of Us!” – This chant refers to someone “normal” being accepted into the ranks of geekdom. Originally used in the 1932 film Freaks, it was later used in a song by The Ramones before showing up in episodes of The Simpsons and South Park.

Retcon – A common practice in modern comics, it involves re-writing stories from characters' pasts to serve new storylines. Something both Marvel and DC are pretty good/bad at, depending on whom you ask.

Rule 34 – One of the most popular “Rules of the Internet,” this one states that if it exists, there is a porn version of it. No exceptions.

Shippers – People who wish a little too hard that their favorite characters in books, films, and shows would “get a room, already.”

SJW – Short for Social Justice Warrior. This supposedly derogatory term was coined by Gamer Gate losers to disparagingly label anyone seeking better inclusion across gender, color, and sexuality lines in video games, comics, and genre film and fiction. However, since the word "warrior" implies awesomeness and social justice is generally considered a good thing, many fans have begun wearing the term with pride.

Slash Fiction – Unlike its fairly harmless sibling fan fiction, Slash Fiction introduces a wide array of sexual (usually deviant) activity into the mix. In recent years, a subset called “Crack Fiction” has popped up wherein writers use the tropes of Slash Fiction for a comedic effect.

SNIKT – The noise Wolverine’s claws make when they pop out.

Spidey Sense – This is the power that Spider-Man uses to avoid bullets and other grievous harm. Colloquially used to express a bad feeling or premonition, i.e., “My Spidey Sense is tingling.”

Squee! – The sound geeks make when they spot their favorite cast members. Or kittens. Or baby animals of any kind, really.

Ten Points to <Insert Hogwarts House Here>! – This congratulatory phrase is like a geek high five.

“We All Float Down Here” – The famous tagline from Stephen King’s IT is used to induce fear and general creepy vibes.

Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey – Originating in Doctor Who, this is a handy phrase to use when describing things coherently becomes a challenge, when you lose the plot while storytelling, or even when you need help winning the occasional argument.

w00t – “Wow! Loot!” This phrase was shortened to proclaim excitement during online gaming when something of real value was found, like treasure or magic pants.

Women in Refrigerators – A phrase originating from a DC Comics story where a super villain kills Green Lantern’s girlfriend and places her corpse in a refrigerator. It’s used whenever any supporting character (usually female) is introduced in comics or other genre fiction simply to be killed or brutalized in some manner.

If this is your very first trip to the

Thunderdome, we hope these tips and tricks

from Click’s Con veterans will help you

maximize your enjoyment.

COMFORT IS KEY. When it comes to what you wear at Comic-Con, pretty much anything goes.

Super hero footy pajamas? Sure. Cape made out of a towel from your hotel? Ok. Plush squirrel body suit? Go nuts. Just remember that half the time you’ll be walking or standing, so maybe you can sacrifice the “authenticity” of the 6-inch platform boots and go with sneakers instead.

A GOOD SCOUT IS ALWAYS PREPARED. Glance at the Comic-Con programming guide, and

it's highly likely your eyes will glaze over. Check out the program listings ahead of time, and decide what’s worth the long line, then allow plenty of time to wait in it. Bring camping gear if the line you want is for Hall H.

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED? After you’ve read this Guide from cover to cover, your smart phone,

tablet, or good old-fashioned comic book will really come in handy when you’re waiting in long lines for panels, shuttles, or the bathroom.

AVOID THE KILLBOX. There must be some mathematical law that states the center of any

convention hall must be absolutely jam packed with the majority of any given crowd. Steer clear of the bottlenecking by moving along the outer aisles for speed and ease.

(Mandalay Pictures) – 2017Director: Jonathan HelpertStarring: Margaret Qualley, Danny Huston, Anthony Mackie

It’s the last call to exit planet Earth after a devastating cataclysm, and one young girl is contemplating skipping the last shuttle and staying behind. Probably the worst day to play hooky, if you ask us.

HARD SUN

(Hulu/BBC) – 2017Creator: Neil CrossStarring: Agyness Deyn, Jim Sturgess

With the world set to collapse five years in the future, two polar opposite detectives are forced to cooperate in order to manage day-to-day crimes. Listen, we will PLAY that music until the boat is under water, dammit.

COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE

SURVIVING THE ENDOF THE WORLD!SURVIVING THE END

If you review the previous pages you’ll see that when it comes to living on a healthy planet Earth, our days are numbered. So how do we prepare?

First things first: supplies! Your first instinct might be to run to Hot Topic for some studded belts and Manic Panic then join the ruling punk gang, but you’d be wrong. Instead, find some clothing with pockets that’s built to last and protect you from the elements. If the current slate of apocalyptic films are an indicator, sunscreen is going to be top of your list, but be sure to grab a few bandanas too, for air filters, sun protection, bandages, or even wicks for Molotov cocktails. For things like wood, nails, and batteries/generators, get to the hardware store. Plus, there are no windows there for undesirables to crawl through, so it’s a good place to hunker down.

Stock up on booze! They ain’t making more of it. Use the cheap stuff for cleaning wounds and making bombs. Maybe get some canned food while you’re at it. Oh, and matches. You always need matches.

Guns & Knives You may have not have been a fan of them before, but now you might have to protect yourself from rabid dogs, mutant beasts, zombies, or worst of all, nasty humans. First-time shooters: stick with the easy-to-use revolver or shotgun, and just in case we’re dealing with zombies, aim for the head.

Your smart phone just became kind of useless, so find yourself a CB and some 2-way radios to communicate with any fellow survivors. You can find these at an electronics store, event production company, or abandoned semi truck. (Just make sure the trucker doesn’t try to eat you.)

You may have realized that you can’t find these stores without your computer or phone. Best break into your elderly neighbor’s home and steal a big yellow book called “The Yellow Pages.” Grab a map from your local gas station.

If you’re the sole survivor, keep the blues (and boredom) away by binge-watching your favorite shows the old-fashioned way—TV on DVD. You can use gas from empty cars to fuel your generators and keep those discs spinning. Also a good argument for keeping your physical media collection.

COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDECOMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE

Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War) After stealing scenes in Captain America: Civil War, Boseman will be back in San Diego to talk about all things T’Challa and Wakanda, and what it’s like to be Marvel royalty.

John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Pacific Rim: Uprising) In addition to being our new favorite Star Wars heartthrob, Boyega promises to be a perfect fit for Comic-Con because he, like us, is such a passionate and exuberant fan.

Harrison Ford/Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049) The fact is these two could sit on stage together in Hall H and read a phone book, and the crowd would eat it

up. Hopefully, however, they’ll leave the phone book at home and spill the tea on the upcoming sequel to one of our favorite sci-fi classics.

Chris Hardwick (Talking Dead, Extraordinary: Stan Lee) This professional nerd and comedian might possibly be the busiest guy at Comic-Con, moderating panels all over town, including some of the most high-profile reveals in Hall H.

Doug Jones (Star Trek: Discovery) – Our favorite “Man in a Suit” for his fluid style and kind heart, Jones is one that we’re likely to see all over San Diego. Whether or not fans recognize him

without layers of foam latex and special effects makeup remains to be, er, seen.

Zoë Kravitz (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2) – Who is Leta Lestrange? How is she related to Bellatrix? Is the whole family bad news, or was it just the one wearing the crazy

pants? Potterheads everywhere want to know, Zoë!

Stan Lee (Marvel Comics) Happy 95th birthday Generalissimo! We don’t even want to know what the world would be like without the Father of Marvel Comics, much less Comic-Con. Fans from all over will be celebrating Stan The Man’s birthday in San Diego this year,

and we are delighted to toast the life and creations of this iconic and all-around delightful human. Excelsior!

Rep. John Lewis (MARCH) In a convention packed with hundreds of thousands of sci-fi, fantasy and comic book superheroes, Congressman John Lewis is an actual, real-life American hero. One of the Big Six in the American Civil Rights Movement, Lewis has

dedicated his life to protecting human rights. He also co-wrote a trilogy of graphic novels about his experiences, which is why we get the chance to hear from him.

Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) Helloooooooo! After enjoying his portrayal of Agent Cooper, Agent “Creeper,” and, of course, Dougie Jones, fans will be clamoring to share a damn

good cup of coffee with MacLachlan, David Lynch, and anyone from the misty town of Twin Peaks.

Ezra Miller (Justice League, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2) Hopefully the latest actor to play the Fastest Man Alive will slow down long enough for us to learn more about him and all his exciting upcoming projects.

Jason Momoa (Justice League, Aquaman) Momoa is a fan favorite. Genuine, positive, and larger than life (and most of the people around him), he brings a fresh new take on our favorite Atlantean hero. No word yet as to whether he’ll be talking to fish.

COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDECOMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE

THE HEROES OF COMIC-CONLupita Nyong’o (Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) Nyong’o has gone from being an Academy Award winner to full-on nerd royalty and, yes, that IS a step up. Hopefully this is the Con

where we find out what really went down between Maz and Yoda.

Chris Pine (Star Trek, A Wrinkle in Time) Captain James T Kirk, Steve Trevor, Dr. Alex Murray—Pine is everywhere lately, and we hope that means he’ll be everywhere in San Diego as well, solidifying his role as

Professional Dreamboat and Next Big Thing.

Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool 2, X-Force) – Is it possible that Reynolds will be trolling the Convention floor incognito in his Deadpool costume? Yes. Should you accost everyone in a Deadpool costume hoping for an autograph, just in case

one of them turns out to be him? No. Please don’t do that. #CosplayIsNotConsent

Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Peter Rabbit) E Daisy, Daisy, are you the Last Jedi? / We go crazy, wanting the reasons why / We don’t know who Mom or Dad is / We don’t know if it matters

/ The Force is with you / and now you can duel / with a lightsaber made for Sky…walker. E

Zoe Saldana (Avengers: Infinity War, Star Trek, Avatar) When Saldana first took on the role of Gamora, she requested that James Gunn make a few changes to the role to make her more active and a stronger part of the team.

May her positive role as a feminist lead to even more badass female characters, green or otherwise.

Lauren Shuler Donner (Legion, X-Force, Gambit, X-Men: New Mutants, Deadpool 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix) You want to know who has the scoop on all the upcoming mutant movies? This woman. She’s been producing X-Men

movies since 2000, so if you’re looking to make your case for seeing Dazzler and Longshot on the big screen, this is the person to find.

Gail Simone (Wonder Woman, Batgirl, CROSSWIND) If this summer’s Wonder Woman film left you wanting more, we recommend checking out the comics authored by Simone. One of our favorite creators, she will be in San Diego to

talk about CROSSWIND, her new collaboration with Cat Staggs, as well as to continue to promote diversity in comics.

Steven Spielberg (Ready Player One, Indiana Jones) If anyone can create Ready Player One’s fantastical virtual reality MMO world of Oasis to life on the big screen, it’s Spielberg. (Plus it’s

likely relatively easy for him to get permission to use and showcase all of the '80s pop culture references, since he created most of them.)

Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones, X-Men: The New Mutants) If you can’t catch Williams on any panels, we recommend following her updates on Twitter where she is consistently outspoken, funny, and refreshingly authentic.

Oprah Winfrey (A Wrinkle in Time) You might think the likelihood of her joining a panel is right up there with George R.R. Martin showing up with published copies of his last book. But she was just at the D-23 Expo, so stranger things have happened.

The 7th Member of the Justice League – Original marketing materials for the Justice League movie showed seven members, but so far we only have Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash,

Aquaman, and Cyborg. Who else will be joining? If we get a vote, then we pick Owen Wilson as Guy Gardner.

IT

(Warner Bros./New Line) – 9/8/17Director: Andrés MuschiettiWriters: Stephen King, Chase Palmer Starring: Bill Skarsgård, Finn Wolfhard, Jaeden Lieberher, Sophia Lillis

Hey, little kid, do you want a balloon? It’s super cool down here in the sewer. We got clowns, zombies, werewolves, spiders, all kinds of great stuff. Best of all? We all float down here. Everything floats. Come on down! Beep, beep, Ritchie.

THE DARK TOWER

(Columbia Pictures) – 8/4/17Director: Nikolaj ArcelStarring: Katheryn Winnick, Matthew McConaughey, Idris Elba, Jackie Earl Haley

Look, we’ve all been there. You’re a gunslinger, shooting up an entire town and you have to reload your guns. It’s a pain, right? You gotta see how Roland does it. This guy can totally reload a revolver with one hand. And fast, too! Oh, also there’s an evil wizard, portals, basic end of the world type stuff. Fingers crossed for a lobstrosity.

CASTLE ROCK

(Hulu/Bad Robot) – 2018Creator: Stephen King, J.J. AbramsStarring: Melanie Lynskey, Bill Skarsgård, Jane Levy, Andre Holland, Sissy Spacek

Characters from Stephen King’s universe will return as stories weave in and out of their lives. Maybe we will finally learn why everyone doesn’t get the @!*# out of Maine. Seriously. Nothing good happens there. And we all know this is really Derry. You’re not fooling anyone.

INSIDIOUS CHAPTER FOUR

(Sony Pictures Entertainment) – 1/5/18Director: Adam RobitelStarring: Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell, Josh Stewart, Kirk Acevedo

With younger versions of Lin Shaye’s character appearing in the film, it looks like we’ll be getting a little more backstory on her history with The Further. Considering how stressful that place is, we wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out Lin is actually only 25 years old.

DEATH NOTE

(Netflix) – 8/25/17Director: Adam WingardStarring: Nat Wolff, Margaret Qualley, Willem Dafoe, Keith Stanfield, Shea Whigham

If you found a book that would kill any person whose name you wrote in it, would you use it for good or for evil? Predictably, a high school student that found it chose to become a vigilante, as you do. Based on a manga comic, this should technically be on page 10 or 11 but we needed another movie for this page, so… Shhh.

FRIEND REQUEST

(Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures) – 9/22/17Director: Simon VerhoevenStarring: Alycia Debnam-Carey, William Moseley, Connor Paolo, Brit Morgan

A popular girl shares everything with her 800+ friends on Facebook, but after friending & unfriending a social outcast, her closest FB friends begin dying cruel deaths. ‘Scuse us while we take a few moments to “re-friend” a few folks…

ANNABELLE: CREATION

(Warner Bros.) – 8/11/17Director: David F. SandbergStarring: Anthony LaPaglia, Miranda Otto, Stephanie Sigman

While we do enjoy plots surrounding Annabelle, we’re also pretty sure that someone could just film a room full of porcelain dolls by themselves, no trickery, and achieve a fairly strong level of discomfort and dread within the viewer. Right?

PUPPET MASTER: AXIS TERMINATION

(Full Moon Features) – 8/11/17Director: David F. SandbergStarring: Anthony LaPaglia, Miranda Otto, Stephanie Sigman

Everyone’s favorite murder puppets are back for the final chapter of the Axis Saga! Join in the fun as Pinhead, Blade, Six Shooter, Tunneler, Jester and Leech Woman enjoy a blood-soaked Nazi-killing spree. Remember: Nazis are BAD. (It’s sad that some people have to be reminded about that.)

It’s been 10 years since Jigsaw died, but mutilated bodies are starting to pop up again. In a somewhat similar vein, we’ve planted a virus in this document that will begin leaking your browser history online in the next 60 minutes. Would you like to play a game?

THE PURGE 4

This prequel will explore the history of The Purge. Sooo, it’s a current events documentary?

HAPPY DEATH DAY

(Universal Pictures) – 10/13/17Director: Christopher LandonStarring: Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine

It’s Groundhog Day meets Scream, with a serial killer murdering a college student over and over again in different ways until she can figure out WHY. Personally, we love Groundhog Day AND murdered teens, so we’re in no hurry for her to figure it out.

SO YOU'RE IN A HORROR MOVIE. . .

45Created by Team Click

COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE COMIC-CON 2017 THE GUIDE

You know the signs. Maybe you’re enjoying a weekend at a remote, rustic cabin, and your friends start disappearing. Or you start to hear the shimmering strains of a child singing while you’re alone in the house. Or maybe you’ve started noticing a suspicious smell coming from your roommate, making you wonder if he really lived through that recent accident after all.

If you notice any of these things, the bad news is, you are probably in a horror movie. The good news is, we at Team Click have seen plenty of scary fare, and we’re here to help you save your skin. Literally.

Tip 1: Don’t Panic!Keep a level head and you’ll be more likely to keep your actual head. Speaking of common sense,

Tip 2: Stick Together, PeopleUnless your name is Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy or Scooby, there is absolutely no way that splitting up is going to work out for you.

Tip 3: Stay SoberYou know how hard it is to play beer pong when you’re inebriated, and the ping-pong balls aren’t trying to kill you. (Although, that does give us an idea for a new horror franchise…)

Tip 4: Know, and Respect, Your EnemyYour odds of surviving will increase greatly if you can accurately identify exactly who or what is trying to kill you, especially if you plan to fight back. Different weapons kill different monsters, after all. And no mocking! The second you try to lighten the mood by playing with that doll like it isn’t a creepy possessed killing machine is the second it takes your life with its tiny, tiny porcelain hands.

Tip 5: Be a Wholesome GirlSorry dudes, but if Final Girl Theory has taught us anything, it’s that odds of survival are next to zero unless you are a nice, intelligent girl who can keep it in her pants. If that doesn’t describe you, then you could try wielding a killer sense of humor—often the comic relief is only horribly maimed. Everyone else? You’re toast.

And finally, when it comes to that dank basement, mysterious room, or oddly rustling closet, for goodness sake people,

Tip 6: DON’T GO IN THERE!
