    On behal o Haliax Regional Concil, it gives me great

    pleasre to extend a warm welcome to all involved with

    Noctrne: Art a t Night 2010, taking place in Haliax

    Regional Mnicipality on October 16.

    Noctrne: Art at Night is trly a celeb ration o achieve-

    ments with something or people o all ages, interests and

    art experience to enjoy. The third annal nighttime arts

    estival will showcase the exciting and incredible art scene

    here in or region. I encorage yo to experience as

    many o these diverse talents as possible over the corse

    o the evening.

    Art is an important part o or cltre here in Haliax

    Regional Mnicipality, and I wold like to take this oppor-

    tnity to acknowledge, with gratitde, the artists or their

    incredible work and commend the estival organizers, vol-

    nteers and sponsors or their commitment and dedication

    As the 2010 co-chairs, we wish to welcome

    yo to the third annal Noctrne: Art at Night

    an event which promises to once again

    magically transorm the city or one night

    with art and artists.

    Noctrne lanched in 2008 as the

    initiative o a small grop o passionate

    volnteers who believed that i they worked

    hard to present art in a new and niqe

    way, the people o Haliax wold be thereto spport the vision. And were they right.

    In three short years, Noctrne has become

    a highlight o Atlantic Canadas cltral

    landscape, showcasing the commitment o

    volnteers and the diversity and strength

    o or arts commnity.

    So, it is with sincere gratitde and appre-

    ciation that we thank each and every board

    and committee member, past and present,

    who has made this event what it is.

    Thanks mst also be extended to all o or

    sponsors, partners, advertisers and govern-

    ment spporters who have believed in or

    event and have collectively oered nds

    and eorts to help enable its potential.

    Dozens o volnteers and over 200 artists

    have pt tremendos eort into presenting

    an nparalleled spectacle to yo this year.

    amazing projects and the galleries once

    or three years and now co-chairing together

    or really nderstanding what it takes to

    been a rare and precios opportnity to be

    The Haliax Cycling Coalition will lead reebike tors at reglar intervals throghot

    the evening. Participants will be provided

    with a ree bicycle light. Discover galleries,

    independent projects and explore some

    special bike-themed extras, all on two

    wheels. Each tor will begin with a saety

    brieng. Tors will last or an hor and

    wont be strenos. Tor nmbers may be

    limited or saety reasons, so arrive early.

    in the volnteers who drive this event and

    make it possible. Not only are the voln-

    teers ot and abot the night o the event

    leading tors, handing ot programs,

    ort they are also very active beore the

    30-40 members at their get-togethers and

    they welcome new members o all ages

    and all levels. They plan to take over the

    world or strings at a time.

    is a small-town saxophonist with big ideas.

    MacKelvies eclectic style ranges rom play-

    ing lead alto in a Latin band to co-leading a

    ree jazz trio. As the creative msic work-

    shop coordinator or the 2010 Atlantic Jazz

    Festival, MacKelvie let behind ormal strc-

    tre and experimented with spontaneos

    combstion or a stimlating perormance.

    On December 6, 1917, the ships Mont-Blanc and Imo collided in HaliaxHarbor, orever changing the city. The story o the explosion comes alivewith costmed interpreters and the msems award-winning exhibit, HaliaxWrecked: The Haliax Explosion, which takes viewers throgh the timeline othis historic event. Docked at the msems whar, see the CSS Acadia. It isthe msems largest artiact and the only ship to have srvived the explosionthat is still afoat today. The Haliax Explosion exhibit and the main foor o themsem will be open to Noctrne visitors.

    a special showing dring Noctrne in the ormer home o the Mary E. Black

    Nova Scotia Art Bank encorages the development o artistic excellence and

    stimlates an awareness o and interest in visal arts and crat among NovaScotians and their visitors.     CITY MAIL is an inner-city mail delivery service that is rooted in a belie in therefective powers o letter-writing, the sbseqent ability to oster an rban-design consciosness and the impact sch patterning has in the social realm.The installation o a post oce downtown is a comment on the strctre oHaliaxs weakened rban core: a demonstration o the kinds o services andoperations that promote nostalgic notions o commnication and commnityhbs. For Noctrne, the post oce will be in ll operation, actively sorting andprocessing the citys mail. The invisible and mysterios action o deliveringmail illminates the way relationships exist in or rban spaces.

    Haliax Explosion Interpretative FusionCharles P Allen High School, directed by Anna Whalen & Nathan BeelerSt. Pals Chrch, 1749 Argyle St.

    Throgh a sion o sond (wind ensemble, adio recordings and ree verse),images (archival photos, images o Haliax and artistic interpretations),creative lighting and movement, this grop o high school stdents will presentthe events o the Haliax Explosion in three parts: beore, dring and ater.The central piece will be perormed at St. Pals Chrch. There will be twosatellite pieces, each consisting o a Morse code light perormance and twowind instrment perormers. The viewer will see the Morse code conveying thetelegraph message o December 6, 1917 broadcast between the two points,while the perormance is occrring in Haliaxs oldest srviving strctre.

    FACE ITis an exploration o or concept o privacy in the age o volntaryexhibitionism. FACE ITtakes a page rom the growing debate regarding thepblics love o sharing personal inormation on Facebook and the sbseqentmonetization o that inormation by the Facebook corporation. The exhibitwill display a grop o sers aces in a set o strategically placed comptermonitors, sharing the inormation they consider pblic abot themselves.The monitors will point toward the Face o Facebook, an elevated talking

    head reading ot the relevant parts o the Facebook privacy policy. Theqestion becomes: What price is the party worth?
