Through didactic sessions and hands on activities in this day and a half long course, the participants will learn how to evaluate the effectiveness of ventilation systems, diagnose problems, and apply the equations on the CIH exam equation sheet to everyday ventilation problems. Both general dilution ventilation and local exhaust ventilation systems will be examined. This training is intended for all practicing industrial hygienists who are tasked with evaluating ventilation systems, or who are studying for the CIH exam and would like a review of the fundamentals of ventilation. Meet the Course Director

Kate Durand, MS, CIH, CSP

She has a Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene from the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Certified Safety Professional. Specific areas of expertise include health and safety program administration, exposure assessment, respiratory protection, aerosol transmissible diseases, workplace violence in healthcare, asbestos and lead in construction, environmental lead exposure, Lean Management, and the Incident Command System.

Kate Durand has over twenty years of experience practicing, teaching, and doing research in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety as well as Emergency Preparedness and Response in a variety of settings including academic, government, non-profit, and private sector organizations. Before joining the CE Program at UW DEOHS as a Continuing Education and Outreach Manager, she was the Director of Workplace Safety and Emergency Management at a large, public skilled nursing and rehab facility in San Francisco.
