2021-22

Page 5: NOMINATION BOOKLET FOR ELECTIONS 2021-2022

I became an Inner Wheel Member 36 years ago and since then I have never stopped serving our great Organization with dedication and harmony as a team member at Club, District, National and International levels.

I am very proud to have been elected as International Inner Wheel Vice President. The experience I gained holding several offices will be the necessary background to take on this important role.

I will have the privilege to work with Non Districted Clubs and keep in contact with IW Representatives at the UN in the fields of Human Rights, Rights of the Child, Condition of Woman, Family, Elderly, Drugs.

In 2024 Inner Wheel will celebrate its Centenary and each Member belonging to the 104 countries in which our Organization is present, should commit to make it further grow and let people all over the world know the service IW Members provide on local, national and international levels through effective communication on IIW Website and Social Media.

Team work is essential to strengthen our Organization and ensuring its future also inviting younger women to join and retaining existing membership. We must all contribute to better the world now contaminated by pandemic, wars, killing and abuse of human beings, especially women and children, poverty, disrespect for fundamental human rights and Nature to reach peace, solidarity, well-being, healthier and cleaner environment.

I will do my utmost to make Inner Wheel increasingly appreciated and to encourage young women to join/found IW Clubs.

Self respect, respect for the others, tolerance, open-mindedness will be the keys to promote the high objectives of friendship, personal service and international understanding. My vision is: respect, tolerance and an open-mind on the world.

Being Board Member 2018/2020 I feel equipped to bring my experience at all IWlevels, my economic and legal skills during working life into International Inner Wheel in the position of Vice-President of the Executive Committee.

I want to support happiness worldwide by creating a strong, modern and global Inner Wheel of which I am proud having been a member since 1981 when I was 29 years old and one of my three daughters was not yet born. Being a working mother with three little children, it was difficult to attend all club events but it was always relaxing meeting fellow members. It was an honour to become president of my club and to realize that work for Inner Wheel is always characterized by joyfulness and participation. After I stopped working I became District Chairman. It forces you to think out of the box and develop yourself by helping others together in friendship. There are many parts in the world we can make the difference. A difference not only for the mothers but also for their children being the future IW members.

I am passionate about this organisation and I believe that it is vital to take steps to prepare IIW for the next 100 years and ensure IW’s continuity for generations to come. We must use all modern communication to let the world know that we are proud to be able to help to improve life of others. We benefit by gaining international friendship; woman will be attracted to IW and help us to more successes.

I have been an active member of Inner Wheel for over 30 years. I cherish the friendships and the worthwhile projects that I have been involved as a member of the Inner Wheel Club of St. Thomas US Virgin Islands and at the District, National and International Levels.

Just a year ago I was honored as a recipient of the Margarette Golding Award. COVID-19 presents Inner Wheel with unusual and challenging opportunities to serve the world’s population. One significant result has been worldwide outreach and increased attendance at meetings and events by utilizing the Zoom format. We must be creative as we channel a portion of our service to those that are experiencing the loss of loved ones, job and life changing situations. Clubs should continue to focus and enhance educational programs, help the economic crisis as it pertains to health, food and clean water for families and prepare to assist when disasters occur. We must continue to promote our story on social media as we focus on Friendships, Personal Service and International Understanding.

My goal is to continue to nurture and increase membership as we make a life changing impact on the lives of women and children. As we approach our 100th Anniversary celebration in 2024, may our successes continue to multiply and bring more joy, love, fun, smiles, laughter and peace into the world.

I have come to love and know IW’s history, organizational structure, objectives, mission, constitution and ways of working at the very young age of 28. In a span of 32 long years, I have meticulously acquired experience at the club, district, national and international levels. Currently, I am serving as IIW Board Director for my second term.

As a practicing certified public accountant for 38 years now, my experience will be valuable in improving the Financial Management System of IIW.

I envision IIW as a sustainable Global Organization, experiencing robust growth, responsive and relevant to the diverse needs of women of all ages, resilient and adaptable to the new normal.

I envision IIW to expand its reach to Young Girls aged 12-17 through the formation of IW Youth Clubs in high school and college levels. This will create awareness about our service mission, thus inspiring the girls to cross over to IW Clubs as regular members when they reach 18 years old and above.

I envision IIW actively promoting our service projects on Social Media, thereby attracting the New Generation to become members. Social Media will be a most effective channel for monitoring projects and will serve as Inner Wheel’s Marketing platform.

I envision an IIW Global Management System that will standardize and firm up the IIW Brand of leadership and culture building for the formation of competent, visionary and agile leaders who can lead with understanding and clarity in the midst of these complexities of the “ New Normal”.

2020 has been a time of crisis and isolation. It is the pervasiveness of the Internet that has kept us abreast of happenings, moment by moment, in hearing the calls for help from every corner of the world and the heartfelt relief given by Inner Wheel members.

Let us make more concerted applications of the Internet that Inner Wheel Clubs and International Inner Wheel has already built and take the next steps at international level.

• In membership development, let us organise webinars to broaden knowledge and share experiences.

• In community service, let’s have a forum of ideas and elevate it to global action.

• Let us find common areas and gather global feedback for issues close to our heart so as to facilitate planning and strategy.

For over 30 years, I have managed my own printing and publishing company. Although in semi-retirement, I still take pleasure in designing and editing of books and journals, web programming and scripting, and video production. Some of my personal works were in jointly authoring an English-Malay computer dictionary and a few years of Chemistry Cambridge A-level 10-year series, published by Fajar Bakti (now, Oxford Fajar of Oxford University Press).

I am currently the web programmer for the websites of Districts 330 and 331. As I humbly offer my service, I wish for the opportunity to gather skilled members who would be willing to help. I see it as a necessary venture as this will augur well in establishing the future of Inner Wheel world wide.

Inner Wheel entered my life in 1989; and since then, it is my passion. IW has evolved and I have too. To move with the times, adapt for betterment of the organisation and society, a key development has been learning the use and impact of electronic media, upgrading my designing, editing and writing skills.

Today the old adage ‘pen is mightier than the sword’ has a wider context. Communication of information has changed monumentally, to include e-publications, websites, Social media, TV. By using these powerful popular methods we can spread the Principles Purpose and Projects of IW globally.

When Information is power, we cannot harness this power without distributing. ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’ believing in this, I have polished my video editing and graphic techniques. Images motivate others to replicate / participate in similar work worldwide. The outside world too gets the opportunity to gauge our capabilities, support our cause.

Members are enthused, encouraged to extend their boundaries of assistance by effective motivation. As NR, I initiated a 6000kms Mission on Wheels, before International Women’s Day to promote IW. A Short Film IW in India was made for comprehensive imaging. Print and E Newsletters featured projects and events with data and pictures. Digital literacy and technology helped brand IW India nationally. Facebook was used extensively by clubs even as Newspapers and TV were effective locally.

By using our intelligence and talents, each one of us can be the best ambassador of Inner Wheel.
