This is a personal research in progress. I am aware that there might be some mistakes

or omissions as I don’t know their singles discography very well.

The majority of the information featured in this document was found on the Internet with the help of a friend.

It was initially done to find out what was exclusive on the double-CD compilation Liberation.

At the same time, I tried to figure out what would look likefive different compilations of Rare Tracks.

I’ve decided to share it with you, as it may be helpful.

23. Garvey’s Days (Black Uhuru) 1980 Soul Trap 7-inch single (UK Reggae Charts: Nov. 29, 1980)

NOTE 1: The riddim of the song OBSERB LIFE was used for the song FINAL WEAPON, issued on the compilation ‘Return Of Wax’ (1975)NOTE 2: The first time the song was issued seems to be the 7-inch single DREADLOCKS COMING FOR DINNER with the B-side SPECIAL DINNER. (http://www.xraymusic.co.uk/niney_singles1.htm) Is there two different recordings with Niney?NOTE 3: The four songs recorded with Niney The Observer are all probably from 1976. The website X-Ray Music place CLAP THE BARBER and GUEST WHO’S COMING FOR DINNER in 1976 with assurance and have a question mark for FREEDOMOVER and LOVE BETWEEN US but still think they should be around that specific year. Those two singles are credited to Michale Raprose, maybe that’s an indication that they were released before (?) CLAP THE BARBER and GUES WHO’S... In aninterview, Michael Rose recall those four songs being around 1972, but it looks like he made a mistake. The website X-Ray Music is quite detailed and I would rely on the dates written on it. (www.xraymusic.co.uk)NOTE 4: I used to have in my notes that the song NO, NO, NO was a solo song from Michael Rose from the mid seventies... Could there be two different recordings?NOTE 5 :Dennis Brown originally released the two Black Uhuru tracks WOOD FOR MY FIRE and RENT MAN on his own DEB label. NOTE 6 : INTERVIEW: http://www.reggae-vibes.com/concert/mrose/mrose.htm or http://www.crazy-youths.com/youthlionsound/mykalrose.htmlSINGLE CHARTS: The song PLASTIC SMILE (D-Roy 7-inch single) was in the UK Reggae Charts on June 9, 1979. ANTHEM: The 4-CD boxset

BLOOD & FIRE DISCUSSION: http://www.bloodandfire.co.uk/db/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2246

NOTE (WK): ABOUT THE SEVEN TRACKS FEATURED ON THE LIBERATION DOUBLE CD: The 7 tracks on Liberation2-CD that are called ‘Original Mixes’ have a very similar length as the so-called ‘Unreleased Full Length Mixes’featured on the 4-CD box. The song ‘Black Uhuru Anthem’ on ‘Liberation’ has a intro featuring vocals. That introis missing in the 4-CD box, so these are different. Otherwise, I compared those and from one listening, I couldnot find a remarkable difference between the ‘Original’ and ‘Original Full Length Mixes’.

NOTE: It would be interesting to have the running time from the original UK vinyl ILPS 9769 to compare if thereis a big difference in length.

07. Elements (Original Dub Mix) (5m34)

DESCRIPTION: Anthem original dub mixes. All tracks previously unreleased.

exclusiveI’ve learned that there was a small problem with CD 2: the tracks ‘Elements (original dubmix)’ and ‘Black Uhuru Anthem (original dub mix)’ seems to be inverted on the boxset. I don’t own the boxset to compare. The listing above should have the right correction.

released date: August 1, 2006 (iTunes says Sept. 30, 2004)

The tracks in blue would be the exclusivetracks to that boxset. The others were

available on the two CD releases of Anthem(Disk 3: UK: Reggae Refreshers, 1992), (Disk 4:US: Mango, 1989 or PALM, 2003). The first diskseems to be available on the Liberationcompilation, except for one track.

This conclusion is to be confirmed by someonewho will compare each tracks. The discussionon the Blood & Fire forum interesting information.

original UK release, November 1983 second UK release, July 1984

New InformationsThe following informations were given to me by a fan from Denmark in January 2011, which request to include it in the document:

Aquarius/version 7" on Taxi, mid 70's with M.Rose on lead and featuring the Tamling on backing vocals.Eye Market / version 7" on Taxi, both mixes are different from Chill Out / DubFactor. My King For Ever / version 7" on Jammy's (same as I Love King Selassie, but very different overdubs & mix)Right Stuff / version 7" on Taxi, different dub mix than Dub Factor.Solidarity / version 7" on Island Jamaica (a-side Zeus B.Held mix, b-side is the only known version, strangely omitted from the 4cd Anthem box)Wood for my Fire 7" on D.E.B. with a very nice b-side melodica version.

African Love, Hard Times, I Love King Selassie, Sorry For the Man, Time to Unite, and Willow Tree were issued about 10 years ago on 3 Jammy's 10", each sidehas a vocal and a dub. The vocal and the dub have different speeds & very different mixes - vocal sounds like the original Love Crisis album, and the dubs soundlike Rohit album.

Rent Man 12" on D.E.B. with Jah Thomas.

Babylon One Way, a live album featuring the usual tracks+ Darkness and Solidarity. Recorded in Chicago around 1983. Last three tracks on cd are strangely withJ.Reid, from a much later concert: Emotional Slaughter, Brutal and Visions. Chicago concert with more tracks was later released on iTunes under the title "GreatestHits live with Sly & Robbie".

Another topic is the Showcase album, of which exist at least 4 different versions/mixes. "Vital Selection" on Virgin (UK), "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" onHeartbeat, and Showcase with two different sleeves / mixes. Even the length of the tracks differs a lot.

I'm sure there's more once you really start digging. I always wanted to identify the "Sodom" track on DubFactor, for which apparently no vocal version exist. Whenthe Anthem Box was released i emailed the record company and asked about it, since they seemed to have access to the master tapes vault. No reply.
