A message from the Director:

This past year has been filled with stories about transforming experiences from individualsand their families that lead to a sustained sense of “power” over their own lives. We have allwitnessed the new emotional strength and confidence individuals bring to the world eachday; and how this fosters significant relationships with friends and family. Uncovering a poetictalent, moving into one’s first home, discovering a love for a new friend, or speaking your firstword. All personal achievements that drive a better life and generate potent contributors toour world.Driven by a passion to remove limiting stereotypes and raise cultural expectations of ourcommunities, REACH is determined to create a world of inclusion and assumed competencefor each person we serve. We fostered relationships with families, key service providers and our critical support staff tobetter understand the needs of our community. And to meet the growing demand forservices significant to these constituencies and nurture the power to transform lives. Our vision for 2018 includes a examination of the relevance of our services to an increasinglydiverse set of service users, and to build the capacities and partnerships needed to serveexpanding geographic areas. And to re-commit to those ideas and services that providetransformative service to each person whose path we cross.

“REACH is an amazing

organization focused on making

communication a functional part of

life! It has an amazing team/staff

and cares for its clients.”

“We feel eternally grateful to the wonderful people who have made a

huge difference in our lives… To imagine Wally being able to develop

friendships, make choices, and use communication was but a dream a

year ago. But now, we see Wally thriving and taking control of his life in

a community he loves. We know he has a bright future in front of him

with your support.”

“The Art Source has allowed me to participate in more things in the

community and help me build relationships with people with similar

interests. It has allowed me to show my work and has given me a

chance to continue to make and sell my jewelry. My skills have

improved because I get to practice different kinds of art in class.”

“Nicole looks forward to her Monday mornings at the Art Source. She

loves to show what she is working on and sharing it with friends. The

festivals that you participate in throughout the year gives her the

perfect opportunity to meet new people and talk about her artwork.

The Art Source has completely impacted and changed her life. Our

whole family appreciates the Art Source and we support Nicole

100%.”

“It’s wonderful! Miki is doing better than ever! The influence of the

communication tools you brought to Miki so long ago at 12, will be

with him all his life! To have others finally step up and understand

how important this is and get behind it makes my heart sing! I’ll

always be grateful for the initial work you did!”

“My sister’s mental capacity is declining and your staff’s ability to help

and challenge her to get through this has been amazing. I so

appreciate her finding engaging projects to redirect her depressive

thoughts, injurious behavior and even greatly improving her chronic

neck pain due to cerebral palsy by motivating her to workout harder

at the gym and improve her posture. My hope is that your staff is

recognized for her incredible care and work ethic toward people like

my sister.”

Ruri Pierre, President Board of Directors 2016/17,

received the Distinguished Women of the Year Award

2017 from the City of Whittier, CA.

“There are many opportunities in your community

to volunteer and make a difference. Everyone

has skills and talents they should share with

others and discover the power of giving. People

should seek these opportunities in their

community, you never know whose life you are

going to affect.”

“The most rewarding part is that people in the

community trust us and they know they can come

to us for resources. If we say we can do

something, they know we will. Another reward is

seeing our consumers grow in in our programs”

– Ruri Pierre.

ACHIEVEMENTS & WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

We continue to grow, even in a time where we are

challenged to meet the increasing demand of services. In

2017 we hired 102 new staff, added 105 new clients, and

started 2 new housing projects, which is a huge milestone –

oftentimes the process for someone making that transition

can take several months.

REACH looks for people who want more than just a job.

We love those special few seeking to remove barriers and

make a difference with their work. If you, or someone you

know, want to make a real impact in people’s lives, APPLY

NOW!

Volunteer Opportunities: The impact a small group of

committed people can make in a community is endless. We

at REACH wouldn’t be where we are today without the

constant support of our volunteers. We invite you to join us

and make a difference in people’s life, including the

rewarding feeling as a community leader in yours!
