About the Nonprofit Management Academy The Nonprofit Management Academy was established in 1999 by Iowa State University in partnership with the United Way Management Assistance Program to enhance the management skills of those serving nonprofit human services groups, hospitals, government agencies, faith-based organizations, private schools, art and cultural organizations, environmental groups, and others in the nonprofit sector. The program is available to anyone interested in the topics offered.

Through the Nonprofit Management Academy, participants can expect to gain new ideas, contacts and a network of professional support, new information and increased knowledge, and suggestions on how to apply the information presented in each course.

About the Certificate Program To obtain a Certificate in Nonprofit Management, program participants must complete any combination of courses totaling six CEUs (continuing education units). CEUs are noncredit units awarded at a rate of one CEU for every 10 hours of classroom time. Certification is available upon completion of any ten Nonprofit Management courses. The registration fee is $75 per course. CEUs are available for an additional $25. In the 2017 series there is a course at a cost of $120 to cover cost of providing copy righted materials. Iowa State University Continuing Education will keep a permanent record of all CEUs earned. Participants who sign up for CEUs but do not complete their certifica-tion may carry over any CEUs earned to the next Nonprofit Management Academy.

Who Should Attend? The Academy welcomes anyone seeking professional development in the area of nonprofit management, including staff, management, volunteers, professional association employees, educators, and private sector employees who wish to make a career change to the nonprofit sector. Those who are interested in succession planning, building the skills of new managers, or enhancing leadership within the

Data For Decision Makers Bailey Hanson & Sandra Charvat Burke, Iowa State University Thursday, May 18, 2017 (Limit 30 attendees) 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. What do you think data is? Do you know how to find it? Once you have it, do you know how to use it? This course will answer these questions and more. You will get to work with local data, and have a chance to answer some of your own data questions. Before you come, think about some of your own data needs for your program, or organization, and bring questions you’d like to have answered. Four Steps to Effective Program Evaluation Nancy Franz, Professor Emeritus, Iowa State University Thursday, October 19, 2017 (Limit 40 attendees) 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Do you want to better understand how you, your team, or your program is performing? Are you delivering the outcomes and impacts your stakeholders expect? This workshop helps nonprofit organization leaders discover and practice the key elements of success-ful program evaluation. Four steps to effective evaluation covered include mapping the program and focusing the evaluation, determining what to measure, collecting and ana-lyzing data, and telling the program story. Participants will become familiar with pro-gram evaluation tools including mastering the logic model , program evaluation plan-ning sheet, a program impact story template and a program scorecard. Name: Terry Whitson, TW Training, Owner Email: [email protected] Bio: Terry Whitson is an independent training and development con-sultant with over 25 years experience in corporate training. She earned a Masters in Training and Development from Drake University and an under-graduate degree in business with a marketing emphasis from the Univer-sity of Iowa. Terry has been an adjunct faculty member at Kirkwood Community Col-lege since 1988 and Mt. Mercy University since 2010. She has worked as a training manager and corporate trainer for several large companies. She also gained valuable insight into customer communications from her early work experience as a customer service manager. Name: Bailey Hanson Email: [email protected] Bio: Bailey Hanson is a GIS Systems Analyst with Iowa State Universi-ty Extension and Outreach who’s primary areas of expertise is in Geo-graphic Information Systems (GIS), geospatial data collection and analy-sis, web mapping, and interactive data visualizations. She teaches The Essentials of GIS short course, is the co-developer of the ISU Indicators Portal, and is part of the team that delivers the I-WALK program.

Name: Sandra Charvat Burke Email: [email protected] Bio: Sandra Charvat Burke is a sociologist who holds a research posi-tion with the Community Vitality Center and Extension to Communities and Economic Development at Iowa State University. Her work focuses on population and demography, community issues, philanthropy, entre-preneurship and microenterprise, evaluation, migration, diversity, and immigration. Burke has carried out two studies on Wealth Transfer, a study on migration in nonmetro Iowa, and has more than 25 years experi-ence with population issues for Iowa and the Midwest. She was a co-author of Iowa’s Counties: Selected Population Trends, Vital Statistics, and Socioeconomic Data and has written numerous specialized reports and publications. She has conducted data and census workshops, has taught sociology and research methods classes, and has been a recipient of several professional awards from Iowa State University Extension. Name: Marcie Van Note Email: [email protected] Bio: Marcie Van Note is the Interim Director of the MBA Program at Mt Mercy University and a consultant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She has been a leader in the human capital field for over 25 years with experience in sen-ior leadership roles in human resources and training in both non-profit and for profit organizations. She has presented at local and national con-ferences with an emphasis on talent development, leadership, change management, coaching, train the trainer, developing a positive culture, employee engagement and motivation. Marcie has a Master’s degree in Training and Performance Im-provement and is a full-time student working on her PhD. She has volun-teered at many organizations including Downtown Association, local So-ciety of Human Resources Management (SHRM) chapters, American Can-cer Society and delivers Meals on Wheels. She is Past President of the Hawkeye Chapter, Association of Talent Development (ATD) and partici-pated on the Chapter Recognition Committee for national ATD. Marcie received the national Teaching Excellence award from the Council for Accelerated Programs in 2016. Marcie works tirelessly to ensure employ-ees and businesses work together to become successful. Marcie’s style is described as engaging and original. She has the ability to get everyone involved in the learning process through interaction, humor, life experi-ences and passion. Marcie’s personal philosophy is that learning is an ongoing process — never, ever stop learning.

Name: Dr. Carol Heaverlo Email: [email protected] Bio: Dr. Carol Heaverlo, Director of Professional Development for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. Carol has a BS and MS degree in Biology and a Ph.D. in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from Iowa State University. Carol provides leadership and oversight for the development, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of organization-wide plans for professional development, program quality, and public value articulation. Her research interests include equity in education, an-dragogy, and the professional development of adult learners. She teaches graduate courses in Program Assessment & Evaluation and Qualitative Research Methods. Carol has tremendous experience working with di-verse populations and in group facilitation. Name: Kaela Black Email: [email protected] Bio: Kaela Black is a Human Resources Coordinator for Extension and Outreach with Iowa State University. Kaela has a Bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in human resource manage-ment. She also holds certifications as a Professional in Human Re-sources (PHR) and as a Society for Human Resource Management Certi-fied Professional (SHRM-CP). Kaela has served ISU Extension and Out-reach in a human resources generalist role with a specialty in classifica-tion, compensation, talent acquisition, succession planning and retire-ments, data management, and civil rights efforts for the past 18 years.

In that role she is responsible for manag-ing an $11 million endowment and an annual development budget of $1 million. Prior to that appointment, Ms. Pellerin worked for the American Red Cross for five years serving as Financial Development Director for the Grant Wood Area Chapter and as the State of Iowa Financial Development Consultant for the American National Red Cross. Ms. Pellerin is a Certified Fund Raising Executive. She currently serves on the board of directors for the Old Creamery Theater in Amana, and is a past board member of Cedar Rapids Daybreak Rotary and the Eastern Iowa Associa-tion of Fundraising Professionals. She is a past-president of the Eastern Iowa Planned Giving Council. Name: Leslie Wright Email: [email protected] Bio: Leslie is the Vice President of Community Building at the United Way of East Central Iowa. At United Way Leslie leads a team of staff volunteers dedicat-ed to uniting the caring power of communities to invest in effective solutions that improve people's lives. Leslie serves as chair of the Linn Area Partners Active in Disaster, a coalition of more than 25 public, private and faith based organizations working to prepare for and respond to disasters like the 2008 and 2016 floods. Leslie serves on the Cedar Rapids Safe, Equitable, Thriving Task Force, Parish Nurse Advisory Board, Cedar Rapids Community School District Master Facilities Commission, Westminster Presbyterian Church Session and the Linn County Board of Health. Leslie’s education and training include a BA in Psychology from Car-leton College, MA in Human Development from St. Mary’s University of MN and extensive training and certifications in Nonprofit Consulting including: Technolo-gy of Participation Facilitation and Strategic Planning Training, (2016), Boundary Spanning Leadership Training(2014), Compasspoint, Institute for Nonprofit Con-sulting, (2003), Npower, Technology Planning Trainer Certification(2003), Board-Source Advanced Professional Development for Nonprofit Governance Consult-ants (2003), Leadership Development Program in Organizational Cultural Com-petence Training and Consultation (2007) Leslie moved to Iowa in the fall of 2003 with her husband and their two children.

List of Course Instructors/Bios (continued) Name: Dr. Deb Oliver Email: [email protected] Bio: Dr. Deb Oliver has a passion for everything that involves organizations and management. She has a rich history of more than 25 years working in sev-eral different types of organizations. Her formal education includes a degree in Management (HR Emphasis) in 1994 from UN, a Master degree in Organizational Behavior in 1996 from BYU in Utah. Deb taught for several years at UNI and Mount Mercy as a “hobby” along with working fulltime for 8 years at Rockwell Collins as a Lean Consultant. After Deb left Rockwell, she worked for the Iowa Quality Center for 3+ years and developed the Workplace Lean Program which focuses on Continuous Improvement in the office/service areas of organizations. Deb accepted a fulltime faculty position at Mount Mercy in 2007. She earned her PhD in 2009 from Capella University and served as the Director of Mount Mercy University’s MBA Program (’08-’15). In 2012, she developed the Master of Strate-gic Leadership Program also at Mount Mercy University and also served as its Director (’13-’15). While Deb enjoyed her time at MMU (especially the students), she is excited to again be working alongside a variety of the community’s organi-zations in their journey toward excellence. Name: Lance Noe, Director Email: [email protected] Bio: Lance Noe serves as the Director of the Center for Professional Studies, College of Business and Public Administration at Drake University. In that role he develops specialized certificate and professional programming for public, nonprofit and private sector organizations. He also serves as a member of the CBPA faculty teaching in the Drake MPA and MBA programs as well as profes-sional development certificates and programs. His areas of teaching, consulting, research and publications include public policy, grant writing, fund raising, state and local government, conflict management and negotiation and leadership. His education includes degrees and post graduate work at Iowa State University, Florida Atlantic University and Drake University. Specific to grant writing, Lance has much experience developing and writing foundation, state and federal grants. He also develops and facilitates grant seeking, writing and management curriculum for nonprofit and public sector professionals.

Registration Information Registration Deadline The registration deadline is five working days prior to the first class meeting for each course. Registrations will not be processed unless accompanied by payment in full. An acknowledgement of registration and payment will be sent via email as confirmation prior to the class, and a receipt for payment will be provided.

Refund and Cancellation Policy If a participant cancels at least five days in advance of the start of a registered class, a full refund will be made. For cancellations received fewer than five days in advance, there will be no refunds, although substitutions are welcome at any time. In case of cancellation of the class due to insufficient enrollment, a full refund will be made. Additionally, classes will be canceled if Kirkwood Community College is closed due to inclement weather. Weather cancellations will be announced via the local television and radio stations. If these classes cannot be rescheduled, a full refund will be made.
