LEPHALALE - Meer as R4 miljoen is Maandag in die vroeë oggendure uit Absa Lephalale se kluis gesteel. Daar word vermoed ‘n groep van vier verdagtes het deur die dak toegang tot die bank gekry en die geld uit die kluis verwyder.

Bankbestuurder, Karel de Vries, het Maandagnag ‘n oproep van die sekuriteitsgroep Fidelity Sekuriteit in Johannesburg ontvang om navraag te doen omdat hulle geen sein van die bank se alarmstelsel kon kry nie. De Vries het na die bank gegaan waar hy en lede van Molalatau Sekuriteit dadelik onraad vermoed het. Volgens sekuriteitspersoneel het voetspore gewys dat sowat vier verdagtes aan die agterkant van die bank na die dak geklim het.

Die perseel is afgeskort en ‘n polisietaakspan van Polokwane is ontbied. Volgens provinsiale polisiewoordvoerder, Lt. Kol. Ronel Otto, het die verdagtes die kluis met ‘n hoeksnyer oopgesny. Sy het bevestig dat verskeie voertuie op CCTV-kameras geidentifiseer is, en tans ondersoek word.

AfriForum het die week sy misnoeë uitgespreek oor die voorgestelde verhogings van salarispakkette van tot R815 000 per jaar vir munisipale raadslede. Dít kom nadat die Suid-Afrikaanse Vereniging vir Plaaslike Regerings (Salga) die Parlement verlede maand versoek het om die wyse waarop raadslede vergoed word, dringend te hersien.

Nou vergader die sakekamer en die myn maandeliks om die myn se ondersteuning van die dorp en in besonder, sakekamer lede te monitor. “Ons is besig om ‘n databasis op te bou van wat ons lede kan bied en vergelyk dit dan met wat die myn nodig het,” het Goetsh verduidelik.

The provincial DA leader, Desiree van der Walt congratulated Dekker on his victory. “The seat in Mogalakwena was won by the ANC in the Local Government Elections. This is the second ward the DA took away from the ANC in a by-election, it is the 6th ward that we took from the ANC since the Local Government Elections. This victory is a demonstration that more and more people are choosing the DA. This victory shows that people are ready for change,” she said in a press statement.

Dekker also thanked the DA members from all over the country who came to assist him and the local team during the elections. “We had 380 people from all over South Africa assisting at the various polling stations,” he said.

Rapport het Sondag berig dat die toer organiseerder, Michael Grundling, eenvoudig verdwyn het met die geld wat rugbyspelers vooraf vir die toer moes betaal. Resident shot and killed in robberyMore illegal cigarettes foundBy Alice Mminele

A modern stationwagon stacked to the roof with illegal cigarettes was found on a farm outside Lephalale when Molalatau Security responded to a call to its crisis control number on Saturday evening. Earlier that afternoon a farmworker alerted the police that his co-workers saw two suspicious vehicles speeding along a gravel road on a farm about 30km out of Lephalale on the Stockpoort road.

Workers saw the vehicles pulling off the farm road into a thorny thicket and saw two men leaving the vehicles making their way back to the main road. At around 19h00 the worker phoned the Molalatau crisis number when he saw lights where the vehicles were parked. Andries Bester and Gerrie Botes responded where they found the two vehicles, cigarettes and four suspects.

The one vehicle, a Toyota Verso, contained more than a 1 000 cartons of contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of R100 000.

The four suspects appeared in court on Tuesday. Charges were dropped against one of the accused, another pleaded guilty and was fined R10 000, of which he paid R5 000, with the other R5 000 suspended for four years on condition he does not commit the same offence again. The other two suspects are expected to appear in court soon pending further investigations.

LEPHALALE - A resident of Waterbergstreet in Onverwacht was killed on Sunday night when four men, two who were armed, entered his house and demanded money. When he victim refused, shots were fired and the man died on the scene. According to

Lephalale police one suspect was arrested after he was shot in the leg, allegedly by his accomplice. Ellisras Hospital CEO K.M. Moabelo confirmed that the suspect is being treated for gunshot wounds, but did not comment on his condition.

After three successive years, Matimba power station has again been presented the award for “Best Power Station in SA”. This award is presented after each financial year at the Chairman’s Awards function.

The trophy sees Eskom recognise the station that has performed in an exemplary manner. This does not necessarily mean the best performer. It could be a station that has implemented a turnaround strategy or one that has come through a difficult period but exhibited courage and high morale. This is a role model to other stations.

Matimba is the current record holder of the most JH Smith awards in the history of Eskom. They won in the following years: 2000 (Peaking Generation Matimba) share winner , 2005/06 (Matimba/Duvha) share winner, 2006/07 (Matimba), 2007/08 (Matimba) and 2010/11 (Matimba).

“There are a variety of things that are taken into account when choosing which power station deserves this award. The financial management of the station, technical management where they take into account how much production goes on without interruption, human resource management, environmental compliance and management and the plant reliability,” said Matimba power station manager Gershen Bonga. Dié Hitachi-kontrakte was reeds in omstredenheid gedompel toe dit bekend geword het dat die ANC se beleggingsarm, Chancellor House, in 2007 in Hitachi Power Africa belê het. Bewerings dui daarop die ANC se belang van 25% in Chancellor House het hom sowat R1-miljard in die sak bring.

LEPHALALE - Ellisras Hoërskool se musiekblyspel “Ma Ek Soek ‘n Ou”, geskryf deur die skool se eie Annelie Wessels en opgevoer deur graad 8 tot 12 leerders, was ‘n wêreldreis op een verhoog.

In die storie hoop ‘n ma om haar tienerdogter se hunkering na liefde (lees muisneste) af te skud deur haar saam met ‘n vriendin landuit te stuur om ‘n bietjie afstand van haar begeertes te kry. Die twee meisies toer deur Duitsland, Spanje, Frankryk en Amerika en ontmoet vreemdelinge en beleef interessante plekke, maar uiteindelik keer hulle terug na Suid-Afrika, waar die dogter

Met matriekeindeksamens wat Maandag begin, meen die LUR vir onderwys, Dickson Masemola dat matrikulante in die Limpopo provinsie slaggereed is. Masemola het verlede week tydens ‘n perskonferensie gesê die departement mik vir ‘n 70% slaagsyfer om op gelyke voet met ander provinsies in die land te wees. Verlede jaar se slaagsyfer was 57,9% , ‘n verbetering op die 47.9% in 2009.

Hierdie jaar sal 87 261 leerders die nasionale senior sertifikaat eksamen in 1410

eksamensentrums in die provinsie aflê. Die resultate van die eksamens behoort in die eerste week van Januarie bekend gemaak te word met sowat 4600 merkers wat meer as 1.3 miljoen vraestelle in die provinsie sal merk.

Masemola meen dat genoeg sisteme in plek is om die integriteit van die eksamen te verseker en te beskerm. “Die departement het ‘n spesiale eenheid op die been gebring om te verseker dat geen vraestelle uitlek of korrupsie gepleeg word nie,” het hy gesê.

Hy het verder ouers en voogde gevra om leerders so ver moontlik by te staan. “Kom ons skep vir matrikulante ‘n omgewing waar hulle rustig kan voorberei vir eksamen.” Aan leerders in die provinsie het hy gesê, “werk hard, want julle toekoms hang daarvan af, julle kan ons help om ons doelwitte vir onderwys in die provinsie te bereik.”

Volgens die hoof van Ellisras Hoërskool, Louis Cambell is Rekenaar Toepassings tegnologie RTT wat Maandag geskryf word,‘n baie gewilde vak .“Ons het seker

die grootste groep leerders van enige skool in die provinsie wat die RTT eksamen gaan aflê”. Wat hierdie jaar se eindeksamens betref glo Cambell dat die Gr12 leerders goed voorbereid is. “Ons het ‘n goeie jaar agter die rug en ons verwag goeie resultate van ons leerders.” Sy raad aan matrikulante is om gefokus te bly aangesien dit ‘n lang eksamen is wat vir hulle voorlê.

Noordelike Nuus wens alle matrikulante in Mokopane en Lephalale sterkte toe met die eksamen wat voorlê.

“Ma ek soek ‘n ou!” sê EHShaar liefde vind by ‘n vriend wat maar nog altyd daar was. In die hoofrolle was Chanté Pretorius, Albert Jordaan en Jorine Gouws.

Oudleerling en 2009 se hoofmeisie van Ellisras Hoërskool, Andrea Steenekamp, is die afgelope twee jaar ‘n student by die Universiteit van Pretoria waar sy BChD (Tandheelkunde) studeer.

Sy het vroeër hierdie jaar die gesogte Golden Key ontvang en word op 20 Oktober ingehuldig as ‘n nuwe lid van dié organisasie.

Golden Key is ‘n internasionale nie-winsgewende organisasie met 400 takke in agt lande wat uitnemendheid onder begaafde studente erken en wat internasionale deure oopmaak vir werk- en projekgeleenthede. Die Golden Key toekenning word slegs op uitnodiging aan studente gerig wat in die top 15 % van hul studieveld presteer en ook leiers op kampus en in die gemeenskap is.

Andrea het ook onlangs ‘n merieteserfikaat ontvang vir haar 2010 studiejaar omdat sy meer as 75% in al haar vakke behaal het.

het is seker nie goeie nuus vir almal nie, veral nie vir die ANC wat skaars vyf maande gelede dieselfde wyk met meer as 500 stemme verower het nie. Maar vir Suid Afrika is dit goeie nuus, nie oor wie gewen en verloor het nie, maar omdat demokrasie geseevier het.

Ten spyte van al ons uitdagings in hierdie land: verkwistende politieke leierskap, korrupsie, misdaad, swak dienslewering om maar ‘n paar te noem – is dit bemoedigend om te sien ons demokrasie is nog gesond genoeg dat ‘n opposisieparty ‘n setel by die stembusse van die regerende party kan wegvat.

Kom ons hoop hierdie politieke volwassenheid leef voort in ons raadsale waar besluite dikwels deur die meerderheid gestoomroller word. Mag ons leiers daar verstandig genoeg wees om besluite tot voordeel van die gemeenskap wat hulle dien te neem en nie net vir eie gewin nie. Die uitslag van Mokopane se tussenverkiesing spreek boekdele oor die gevolge wat opportunistiese en selfsugtige raadsbesluite vir die regerende party by sy kiesers kan inhou.- Jasper Raats, Editor

Imagine listening to a motivational speaker telling you to consider other people better than yourself. It would be unheard of and probably the end of his career as motivational speaker. Aren’t we taught to always look out for “numero uno” – me.

Is it not this attitude of always looking out for ourselves that causes a lot of pain and suffering in the world today?

What would the world look like if every

person in it had Christ’s attitude: “He made Himself nothing; taking the very nature of a servant... He humbled Himself and became obedient do death – even death on a cross.” (Phil 2:6-8). I strongly believe that if we lived more for others and less for ourselves that we would be happier and more fulfilled.

In thinking about it, I realise that fear often keeps us from placing other’s needs above our own. “If I look out for others, will I be all right, who will look out for me?”

The apostle Paul has the answer in that same passage of scripture:

“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit,

if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” Phil 2: 1 and 2.

He then proceede to challenge the Philippians to do nothing out of selfish ambition but to consider others better than themselves.

It is only when I take comfort in the knowledge that I am loved, that I am able to ‘die to self’ and serve others (Galatians 2:20). Sê jou sê oor grondsakeLEPHALALE - Suid-Afrikaners het tot 29 November kans om kommentaar op die groenskrif op grondhervorming te lewer.

Landbou.com berig dat ‘n kennisgewing oor die groenskrif vir ‘n tweede keer in die Staatskoerant gepubliseer is nadat dit reeds 16 September daarin verskyn het. Die groenskrif stel wetgewing voor wat ‘n nuwe beleidsrigting vir grondhervorming in die land sal bied. Die staat wil onder andere met nuwe wetgewing privaat besit van grond beperk.

Die DA se Annette Steyn sê egter dit is vreemd dat die dokument wéér gepubliseer is. Sy meen die regering moet moeite doen om te adverteer dat kommentaar nou gelewer kan word.

Volgens die Departement van Landelike Ontwikkeling en Grondhervorming se woordvoerder, Nicolas Magada, sal openbare vergaderings rakende die groenskrif voor 12 November in Lephalale gehou word. Hou gerus Noordelike Nuus dop vir datums en tye.

Intussen kan kommentaar op die dokument aan die Departement van Landelike Ontwikkeling en Grondhervorming se provinsiale kantore gestuur word by [email protected] of stuur ‘n faks aan 086 241 3517.

Wysigings aan regulasies oor die trofeejag van witrenosters wat deur die Departement van Omgewingsake voorgestel is bepaal dat ‘n beampte van die Groen Skerpioene of ’n opgeleide omgewingsinspekteur alle renosterjagte móét bywoon om daaroor verslag aan die departement te doen.

Die regering stel voor dat omgewings-beamptes elke renosterjagtog bywoon nadat ’n permit ingevolge regulasies oor bedreigde spesies uitgereik is. Departement woordvoerder Albi Modise sê: “Strenger vereistes rakende jag is nodig om te verseker dat die proses gestandariseer is.”

Groenskerpioen nodig vir renosterjagberaadslaging besluit om wetgewing eerder strenger te maak as om ‘n totale moratorium op renosterjag te plaas.

Volgens die nuwe standaarde moet die horings van lewendige renosters wat verkoop of vervoer sal word, met die nodige mikro-merkers gemerk word. Die databasis van die mikroskyfies van alle renosters in die land sal deur die nasionale departement van omgewingsake opgestel, en na die Onderstepoort se veeartsenykundige genetika-laboratorium gestuur word. Die horings van onthoringde renosters moet volgens die voorstelle ook gemerk word.
