I am Robyn, the Education Officer here at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead.

Our summer Farm Out season features

work from some of the finest playwrights in history - Wilde, Bernard Shaw, Miller, Dickens and Shakespeare.

This literary season of work sees the return of The European Arts Company to Norden Farm. They bring Oscar Wilde’s only novel The Picture of Dorian Grey to the stage. Marking the 125th anniversary of the story's publication in Lippincott's Magazine in 1890.

We are proud to be able to bring you the best in event cinema, direct from London’s National Theatre, including performances of Bernard Shaw’s Man and Superman, Miller’s A View from the Bridge and the classic Morality play Everyman. Plus, this season we offer your students a chance to get involved! Our upcoming Young Leadership Scheme is now open for registration and offers students the change to gain extra work experience

throughout the Easter and Summer holidays at Norden Farm.

As always we continue to have a whole host of ways you and your students can get involved here at Norden Farm, including our Technical Theatre workshops and extracurricular activities which include Arts Awards, Digi Den and youth dance and drama classes.

I hope that there is something in this brochure that you and your students will enjoy, and look forward to working with you over the coming months.

The Farm Out Programme is run by Norden Farm and is supported by the Spoore, Merry and Rixman Foundation.

Their support means that all secondary schools within the Old Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead are allocated £500 to spend with Norden Farm at any point during the 2014/2015 academic year - the only cost is a one off £40 (plus VAT) administration fee. You can use your allowance on performances, live cinema and workshops.

If you are unsure of whether your school is eligible for the Farm Out allocation please get in touch.

For all bookings final numbers must be confirmed and full payment made at least two weeks before the date of the performance/workshop. No cancellations or amendments may be made after this time.

Set in the decadent world of Victorian London, a beautiful, narcissistic young man becomes infatuated with a portrait of himself. He makes a Faustian pact that he will remain forever young while the picture grows old; a theatrical event that combines drawing room comedy and gothic horror.

The Kala Chethena Kathakali Theatre Company returns to the UK direct from Kerala in India. They present unforgettable Kathakali performances by internationally renowned performers, singers, rhythmic drummers and highly skilled make-up artists.

Kathakali is the classical dance drama of Kerala, South West India. It originated in the Hindu temples in the 17th Century. The story of Daksha Yaga from the Indian Epics where good and evil battle for supremacy. The story encourages communities to live in harmony by exposing the evil of war.

The Kala Chethena Kathakali Theatre Company is one of the world’s foremost Indian dance companies.

There's been a series of high-profile crimes right across the city - but fear not, the police chief's put his best man on the job - Dick Tracy.

Basing his plot on a farce by Plautus, Shakespeare caps the mayhem of his Roman original to build up a hectic tale of violent cross-purposes, furious slapstick and social nightmare.

Charles Dickens paints a picture of life in England and France, as the economic and political unrest lead to the French Revolution.

Intertwining one family’s personal drama with the terror and chaos around them. A Tale of Two Cities is an epic story of love, sacrifice and redemption.

Performed by Maidenhead Drama Guild which was formed in 1947.

US band Davina and the Vagabonds have created a stir on the national blues scene with their high-energy live shows, sharp-dressed professionalism, and commanding stage presence.

But Davina and the Vagabonds are so much more than just a blues band; they are filled with New Orleans charm, Memphis soul swagger, and tender gospel passages.

This rollicking quintet are held together by Davina’s keyboard playing, with acoustic bass, drums, and a spicy trumpet and trombone horn section.

A cornerstone of English drama since the 15th century, Everyman explodes onto stage in a startling new production with words by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy.

Everyman is successful, popular and riding high when Death comes calling. He is forced to abandon the life he has built and embark on a last, frantic search to recruit a friend, anyone, to speak in his defence. But Death is close behind and time is running out.

One of the great primal, spiritual myths, Everyman asks whether it is only in death that we can understand our lives.

Introduction to Technical TheatreLed by Norden Farm TechniciansA hands on opportunity for students to gain an overview of technical theatre at Norden Farm.

Students will learn about the basic principles of lighting and sound. Activities include working on the tension wire grid, using the lighting and sound desks and creating lighting effects.

Students will have the chance to tour the backstage exploring the scene dock, control room and dressing rooms.

Young LeadershipProgramme

The Young Leadership Programme at Norden Farm allows students to gain skills and experience that are transferrable to a wide range of contexts. They include planning, organisation, people management, teamwork, time keeping and customer service.

Young Leaders play an important part of the holidays at Norden Farm. They will be assisting craft and storytelling sessions and front of house activity, working alongside professional arts practitioners and leading their own end of week open workshop for local children and families.

Participants in the programme will benefit from up to 3 training and mentoring sessions throughout their leadership week. Session content will include event management (including health and safety) and leading children’s arts workshops.

Outcomes for Students

• Development of leadership skills

• Personal development; particularlyself confidence

• Valuable work experience

• Participation in this course can be used toward Bronze, Silver or Gold Arts Award and DofE Award.

Arts Award

What is Arts Award? Arts Award is a unique national qualification that helps young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. The programme develops their creativity, leadership and communication skills. It is open to people aged between 5 and 25 years and embraces all interests and backgrounds.

The Arts Award can be delivered in a number of different ways including within your curriculum, as part of an after school club or as part of an arts week at your school.

We can support your Arts Award delivery:

• Look out for the Arts Award symbol. Practitioners who lead workshops with this symbol can tailor the session to help complete parts of your arts award.

• Hire one of our spaces at Norden Farm and share your children’s’ work and achievement to your school’s parents within a professional venue. Get in touch for prices and availability.
