Project
• Initialised and partly funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers
• Started in the summer 2014 and ended in the autumn 2015
• The project group consisted of the gender statistics focal points of
the Nordic statistical offices
• Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden
• Denmark took the leading role of the group
• Meetings, online discussions and documents
• Two parts:
1. “Nordic Gender Equality in Figures 2015”
2. Indicators for the Gender Equality web pages at norden.org
• Basis for both of these parts was the Nordic Database
1 June 2016 Marjut Pietiläinen & Annemette Lindhardt Olsen 3
The first part of the project:
Nordic Gender Equality in Figures 2015
• http://norden.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:790696/FULLTEXT02.pdf
• Launched at the UN women’s conference in NY in March 2015
• The aim was to utilise already collected data:
• Nordic Statistics database, UNECE database, NOSOSCO,
NOMESCO, Eurostat, OECD, European Commission
database on men and women in decision making
• Only few data were collected directly from Nordic statistical
offices
• the contents of the publication do not necessarily reflect the views,
policies or recommendations of the Nordic Council of Ministers

The second part of the project:
Indicators for the Gender Equality Web pages (1/2)
• As in with the work with the indicators in the publication, the task
was to examine if such indicators were available as harmonised
way
• Firstly in the Nordic Database
• Secondly in any of the international databases
• In some cases, the data existed in the Nordic Database but
needed some extra details were needed for them to be used for
the gender indicators
• In other cases the data had to be found in other international
databases. In these cases the project group
• Defined an alteration of existing tables in the Nordic Database
• Defined a new table for the Nordic Database

The second part of the project:
Indicators for the Gender Equality Web pages
(2/2)
• In the end the project group presented a set of 35 indicators with
the related database tables and their graphic presentations in
July 2015
• The Nordic Council of Ministers wrote the text for the indicators
and set up the webpage, which was launched in October 2015
• The indicators are available in all Nordic languages and in
English
