Next Ordinary Meeting of Council

The next meeting will be on:

-Tuesday 21st August 2018-

I am pleased to report that the new Euston tree avenue has been planted replanting the trees that died last year.

On 3 July 2018 the General Manager, Michael Kitzelmann, the Director of Infrastructure & Development, André Pretorius, and myself attended the Local Government NSW (LGNSW) Regional Summit in Cobar.

It was a fruitful meeting as we joined with other representatives from our neighbouring Councils to collaborate on matters of importance to our region and raise these important issues with the President, board members and senior staff of LGNSW.

On 13 July 2018 I attended the Norma Male rededication ceremony. It gives me great pride to represent Balranald Shire Council at such an event, paying tribute to the wonderful woman Norma Male was and to reflect upon her great achievements.

I encourage all residents and visitors to drop into the foyer of the Shire office and view the new display in which the memorabilia kindly donated by her family is now housed.

Works around the Shire Capital works are continuing around the Shire. These include grid replacement on the Wooranbara-Corrong Road and Mildura Ivanhoe Roads under Roads to Recovery funding. Road construction is well advanced and sealing is likely to occur next week at the Clare-Mossgiel intersection. The Wool Track Project is progressing as several options are being considered and preliminary design drawings are being reviewed. Water main renewal and air scouring as part of Council’s Water Supply and Sewerage Program has progressed, currently documentation for these works is being prepared which will involve location and repair of valves, air scouring and renewal of old mains in both Euston and Balranald.

Stronger Country Communities Fund, Round One: Mainstreet Revitalisation

The second reference group workshop occurred on the 5 July 2018 in the Council Chambers. The workshop was productive and allowed minor refinement of the concept design. A listening post took place on Friday 6 July 2018 on Market Street. There was healthy feedback from the community and this was captured via feedback submission forms. Overall, the project was viewed favourably by the community. Information displays regarding the project have been set up in Council’s foyer and the Visitor Information Centre, all residents are encouraged to view the display.

Community News

Another Successful Pony Club Camp

Balranald Pony Club held another successful Camp last weekend 7-9th July 2018.

The annual camp sees a great influx of horse enthusiasts from across the region converge to the grounds for three days of socialisation and instruction, building knowledge and safety skills. Fifty five riders attended the popular event with abilities & ages ranging from five year olds on their first ponies to the more mature and experienced regular competitors.

The committee did a fantastic job of catering for the hungry tired campers serving up delicious meals and exceeding expectations with their entertainment options. Camp Karaoke on the Saturday night had the locals mixing with the riders on the microphone and Sunday the riders showcased to their peers and spectators their jumping talents in a mini competition under the lights. The action can be viewed on the Balranald Pony Club Facebook page.

The committee thanks the community members and businesses for their support, many have made donations and helped run the event for many years and their continued support is greatly appreciated. Next year’s event will be held again in the July holidays with all the community and visitors welcome to attend. New members and supporters are encouraged to attend our monthly rallies.

Balranald Pony Club would like to remind the community that Sunday 5 August they will be holding a “come and try” day and celebrating all horses birthday at the Pony Club grounds, O’Connor Street Balranald. For more information please contact Emma Scott or Rhani Neville.
