Mike, “The Motor Guy” says,

Did you know that North American Electric TEFC T-Frame motors from 143T to 449T are factory certified for Class I Division 2 Groups A, B, C and D with a T2B Temperature Code?

Many Oil and Gas motor applications require explosion proof (Division 1) electric motors, but many others require just Division 2 classification. The difference in the requirement is simple. A Division 1 location is for a motor operating in an area where the flammable vapor or dust is present. A Division 2 location is for a motor operating in an area where it is just a possibility should a piece of equipment fail.

Make certain you ask your customers if Division 1 is necessary. In some cases a Division 2 is all that is really required. Division 2 certification is becoming more popular in the United States, and, if your customer exports any equipment, this can be very valuable.

If you ask the right questions, you might be able to be more competitive and save your

customers money by supplying our standard T-frame motors for Division 2 locations.
