Dogged by a bad cold and a croaky throat, her speech was interrupted by a purile 'joke' from comedian Simon Brodkin. To her credit, she persevered and completed her speech. Unfortunately for her, the quality of delivery overshadowed the content. Earlier this week, I formally announced the school pupil officers and presented them with their badges of office during assembly. The new School Captain, Olivia Hall had already proved her capabilies as welcome host during the recent Open Evening, and the rest of the Officers have been selected having demonstrated lots of qualies that we expect from Cestrians. During the assembly, I made it clear that, yes, the School Officers support the school tremendously. However, of greater significance was the way in which taking on roles of responsibility help each person grow as an individual. Public speaking, as the Officers do in events such as Speech Night are crucial life skills. As best man or interviewee, it's important to speak clearly, pitch to the audience and appear confident. I know they will be nervous, but they will pracse. And they will deliver. And the next me will be that bit easier. Please see next page for a full list of our School Officers.

Irrespective of one's own politics, one would have to have a cold heart

to have not felt a pang of sympathy for Teresa May during her conference speech in Manchester this week. The new School Captain, Olivia Hall had already proved her capabilities as welcome host during the recent Open Evening, and the rest of the Officers have been selected having demonstrated lots of qualities that we expect from Cestrians. I know they will be nervous, but they will practise. And they will deliver. And the next time will be that bit easier.

Year 8 Football Result

Year 8 kicked off the 2017/18 season with a comfortable win against Broadoak High School on Thursday

night. Three weeks of training had enabled the team to regain their fitness after the summer break.

The game got off to a flying start with NCS scoring 2 goals within the first 10 minutes. A solid defensive

line commanded by Max Lee (Captain) allowed the midfield and attack to camp comfortably in the

Broadoak half. Goals from Alex Hamnett, Louie Davies and Max Lloyd allowed Cestrian to go into

half time comfortably at 5-0. Louie Brannan and Mo provided great support throughout the game, and

their partnership on the left wing was a promising sight going forward.

The second half saw North Cestrian once again placing pressure on the Broadoak defence. Fantastic

finishing from Layton, Josh, Louie and Alex saw North Cestrian finishing the match 12-0.

Well done to all involved!

Very difficult to pick man of the match for this one, everyone contributed to the team’s winning

performance. The team showed promising signs moving forward coming into the next round of fixtures.

Team of the week: Jacob, Kieran, Adam, Max Lee, Louie B, Kyle, Louie D,

Max Lloyd, Mo, Josh, Alex, Layton & Joe.

Mr Cross and Mr Cahill.
