NORTH PLATTE R-I SCHOOL DISTRICT North Platte Panthers Summer 2019
A Message from the Superintendent:
The 2018-2019 school year has
come to an end and our stu-
dents once again had a great
year academically and in their
many activities they can partic-
ipate in at North Platte.
On May 12, an excited crowd
watched 45 seniors graduate
from North Platte. They con-
sistently were a group that had
strong participation and ex-
celled in many areas of their
academics and activities. They
will be remembered as an out-
standing class that represented
the North Platte community
well throughout their years in
the district.
The North Platte Foundation
Golf Tourney was recently held
on June 7 at Shiloh Springs
Golf Course in Platte City. The
proceeds from this tournament
directly benefit our students at
North Platte by providing funds
to generate scholarships for our
graduates to utilize as they pur-
sue their post-secondary educa-
tion. If you would like to do-
nate or set up a scholarship
through the foundation please
contact our central office and
we can assist you.
The summer is traditionally a
time where we complete sever-
al renovations and upgrades
throughout the summer. This
summer’s schedule will include
upgrades in our weight room at
the Dearborn campus, refin-
ishing the gym floor in the
junior high, restoring the new
junior high building to new
construction quality after one
year of use, installing a drain
line to facilitate better drain-
age at the elementary school,
and normal annual repainting
and recovery of each facility.
Another upgrade that will oc-
cur this summer is the imple-
mentation of a new website.
This will include a more mod-
ernized appearance and new
features. Along with this we
will be converting over to a
new text alert system and we
will also be adding a school
app that will allow for several
new school related options
and informational techniques.
More information will be
coming out from the district
on these developments as we
near their implementation.
Summer school has begun for
grades K-8th at the Elemen-
tary School in Camden Point.
Summer school will continue
through June 28. If your child
is not attending but you
would like them to you can
still sign up by calling the
Elementary school at (816)
450-3511.
A program that is now being
implemented by the Depart-
ment of Elementary and Sec-
ondary Education (DESE) is the
“Read More, Missouri” reading
challenge. This program is de-
signed to offset the summer
slide by encouraging students to
read during the summer. Infor-
mation on the program can be
found at https://dese.mo.gov/communications/
news-releases/stop-summer-slide-read-
more-missouri-reading-challenge
I hope this summer is an enjoya-
ble one for all in our communi-
ty. Please contact me at 450-
3511 if you have questions, ide-
as or concerns.

Elementary
Another year has come
to an end for North Platte
Elementary. Students, staff,
and faculty made many great
memories this year. The stu-
dents in each grade have
worked hard all year to mas-
ter standards, but there was
still room for some fun.
Kindergarten spent time
the last quarter researching
zoo animals. The students
enjoyed learning about dif-
ferent animals and their hab-
itats. The students went to
the Kansas City Zoo to see
the animals they had been
researching. Kindergarten
also spent time this quarter
preparing for the Kindergar-
ten Graduation. It was won-
derful to see so many of our
students’ families and
friends come out to support
them on this night. The stu-
dents did an amazing job
with their performances at
graduation.
First grade has been
busy as well. First grade stu-
dents have been working all
year on mastering their addi-
tion and subtraction facts.
All the students worked hard
and were rewarded with a
celebration. First grade has
also been learning about
American symbols. Each
student has created a booklet
of American symbols.
Second graders finished
up their last year at North
Platte Elementary. Next year
these students will be start-
ing their first year at North
Platte Intermediate. They
spent their last quarter at
NPE learning about the Pony
Express and pioneers. They
ended their unit by taking a
fieldtrip to the Pony Express
Museum. This class is a
great group of kids and we
are proud of all they have
accomplished while at NPE.
First and second graders
have been reading books and
taking Accelerated Reader
quizzes throughout the year.
The students that reached
their goal were able to par-
ticipate in the AR Bash. Stu-
dents enjoyed a day of fun
and bouncing at Fun Run in
St. Joseph. All the students
worked hard this year be-
coming stronger readers.
Make sure to read with your
kids this summer to keep
inspiring them to love read-
ing!
All the students had a
fun time participating in
Field Day. The students ro-
tated through different sta-
tions. They had sack races,
cup stacking races, sprint
races, and a long jump con-
test. They also had time to
play in the PTA bounce
house. It was a great day full
of fun and great memories
were made.
From time to time the
students from the high
school get to come down to
the elementary for various
activities. This quarter the
high school Panther Pals met
with some first and second
grade students. This is a
great program through the
FFA. Second grade students
were able to spend some
time with high school stu-
dents through the Healthy
Snack Club. This club was
part of a grant through the
MU Extension office which
gave the high school stu-
dents taking Child Develop-
ment class an opportunity to
teach the second graders
about making healthy life
choices.
North Platte Elementary
Orientation will be on Au-
gust 19th at 6:30. Students
can bring in their school sup-
plies and meet their teacher.
Parents will be able to attend
a short presentation with the
classroom teacher and gather
information about the school
year starting at 6:30. School
will start on Tuesday, Au-
gust 20th. NPE is already
looking forward to another
great year! As always, thank
you for allowing us to spend
time with your kids and or
your support.

Intermediate The school year has ended and summer is here!
North Platte Intermediate
finished fourth quarter with
153 students enrolled and
overall student attendance at
95.32%. This last quarter has
been packed with activities
and events for students and
staff. The PTA held their
school carnival at NPI. Stu-
dents and staff completed
MAP testing and enjoyed a
MAP Bash. Grades 3-5 at-
tended Bases are Loaded and
their individual field trips.

Kauffman produced our NPI
Spring Concert. Mrs. Lam-
moglia organized our Pen-
nies for Patients drive and
our first Career Fair at NPI.
The North Platte PTA held
The Candyland Carnival of
Dreams on April 5 at NPI.
The carnival was decorated
with a candy theme and stu-
dents enjoyed the various
activities. The PTA provided
a concession stand, inflata-
bles, and many games for
North Platte families to en-
joy!
Mrs. Lammoglia kicked-off
our Pennies for Patients
Drive on Aril 26. Students
participated in an assembly
held by the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society. Stu-
dents began collection the
week of April 29 and partici-
pated in a spirit week. NPI
students overall raised $
909.44 towards the cause.
MAP testing kicked off on
May 1 and concluded on
May 16. Students at each
grade level took reading and
math MAP tests. The fifth
grade also completed science
testing and the fourth grade
completed a writing portion
of MAP testing. After the
completion of testing stu-
dents enjoyed a MAP Bash
on May 20 that included a
movie in the gym, snow
cones, cotton candy, and
popcorn. Many thanks to
staff who helped put together
and organize this for our stu-
dents.
(Continued from page 4) In the month of May, all
grade levels attended their
individual field trips. The
third grade students went to
Fort Osage National Historic
Landmark and learned about
how the fort functioned as an
outpost in the newly ac-
quired Louisiana Purchase,
housing soldiers to guard the
new territory and to protect
the United States Factory
Trade House there. The
fourth grade attended the
Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop &
Farm. Students learned
about the only stagecoach
stop left on the Santa Fe
Trail and discovered what
life was like on an 1860’s
farm. The fifth grade attend-
ed Steam Boat Arabia for
their trip. Students learned
about the discovery of the
ship, items found, and were
able to experience how they
preserved items found on the
discovery.
The NPI Spring Concert was
held on May 7 at the high
school. Mrs. Tollefson creat-
ed her program around the
theme of friendship. NPI stu-
dents sang songs that corre-
lated with the theme. Mr.
Kauffman had the fifth grade
band perform their last per-
formance as fifth graders
before heading to the junior
high.
Mrs. Lammoglia organized
our first Career Fair held on
May 17. Students chose four
career areas out of twenty-
four speakers to attend. Stu-
dent rotated to each of their
sessions and listened to a
brief presentation about the
career. After completing
their four sessions student
completed a resume towards
their favorite career option.
NPI appreciates all of our
presenters for attending and
giving up their personal time
to engage our students with a
variety of career paths.
Grade cards were sent home
on May 24. NPI orientation
night will be on August 14 at
6:30 pm. I hope everyone
has a wonderful summer!
The staff and I look forward
to seeing everyone in the
fall.

students performed well, both
in and out of the classroom, in
their many co-curricular and
extra-curricular activities. We
want to wish them well as they
enter into a new chapter of their
lives.
We have had several stu-
dents honored lately in various
contests and competitions.

for the support from the North
Platte Foundation and the other
organizations who presented
$35,000 in scholarships to our
students this year. Our Scholar
Bowl team represented our
school well throughout the sea-
son this year. Our baseball team
ended their season with a record
of 6-12, while pulled off some
great wins this year. The track
team had an outstanding season
that saw five school records bro-
ken and culminated in a trip to
the State Meet in Jefferson City
for Zach Lee, Maddie O’Neill,
Trinity Wrightfield, Madi
Debord, Gracie Ramsey, and Ha-
ley Sampson on May 17 and 18.
The team returned with two state
champions (O’Neill in the 400
and the 4x400 relay of O’Neill,
Wrightfield, Ramsey, and
Sampson) and the girl’s team
finished fifth overall in Class 2.
We are very proud of all of our
students as they represented our
school and community in the
many activities they participated
in throughout the school year.
The North Platte High School
staff would like to thank our
community members for their
continued support this year. Our
students have once again per-
formed well in many areas of
activities and assessments. This
would not be possible without the
efforts of our parents and patrons
in assisting staff and students,
while working together to meet
our goals throughout the school
year. The first day of school next
year is Tuesday, August 20.
