North Texas Olympic Development Staff
The North Texas Staff is a collection of coaches with varying levels of experience in the game as a player and/or as a coach. All are first class people who are excellent role models for the elite youth players in the program. As professional educators, the staff is child-centered. The development of the individual player within the framework of the team is the focus.
The NTX ODP Staff Coaches are selected based on the following 4 criteria: Integrity, Character, Experience, and Qualifications. We have a mix of backgrounds and professional experience including Collegiate Coaches, High School Coaches, and Club Coaches. None of the staff are coaching the same age group that they work with on a daily basis. To avoid any conflicts of interest, Club Coaches work with a different age group, and gender, so no preferential treatment is given to any players they may coach.
The ODP coaching philosophy is player-centered using a soft approach, few words, and “One ounce of theory to a ton of practice" with lots of praise, clear, concise, simple, and honest feedback, without shouting. Young players are given opportunities to make decisions and solve problems - we give them cues/clues not answers.
ODP provides an efficient, yet relaxed, developmental training environment where the truly gifted players will excel. The program is player development, not results, oriented. Practice is deliberate and progresses from simple to complex. Games are high level. We have found, over the years, this developmental approach speeds up learning to create the best all around experience for the elite youth soccer player.
The purpose of the NTX Olympic Development Program is to identify and develop the top players in the state, in partnership with the competitive clubs and teams statewide. Working together with our competitive leagues, clubs and teams, we complement each other and, through this process, the level of play within the state is impacted in a positive manner.
We welcome new recruits to the ODP staff with a solid track record of success in coaching. Interested coaches may email me, Gary Williamson [email protected], with a current coaching resume. Please go to the following link to complete a background check with the NTSSA office via Shawn Morgan [email protected], ODP Administrator: http://www.ntxsoccer.org/odpforms.aspx

North Texas ODP Board Chair In 2007, Lori Rhodes’ daughter became a member of the NTX Soccer ODP player pool, and later went on to become a rostered player in the Region III ODP player pool. In 2009 Lori’s daughter celebrated with her ODP teammates in their victory to become the National Champion ‘91 GODP team. Her daughter’s participation in NTX ODP and her experience in the program as an ODP parent, created a passion in her heart for the ODP program. She later worked with NTSSA ODP in taking the program to youth soccer players in West Texas. In 2010, Lori had the privilege of traveling to Region III camp with a Boys ODP team; this experience gave her a new appreciation for all the hard work and dedication given to the ODP program by the volunteer parents.
As Lori’s term with Lubbock Soccer Association began to come to a close, she wondered what new challenges she might be able to pursue to give back to the game of soccer. The ODP Chair position became that opportunity for her to utilize her organization, budget, communication, and people skills to give back to a program that was already near, and dear, to her heart.
Lori has been employed in Health Care for 35 years. Her job has given her the opportunity to work with people from many ethnic, religious, and social economic backgrounds. She is currently the Manager of the Neurodiagnostic Services Department, Jay and Virginia Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and Sleep Disorders Center at Covenant Health System. This position has provided the training, opportunity, and experience to lead and organize multiple groups of people.
Lori has been a part of the soccer community for over 25 years. She has experienced many levels of soccer, from U-5 Recreational, Competitive, Select, Olympic Development program, ODP National Championship, High School, College and professional both, at home, and abroad. She has been a parent, grandparent, referee, coach, board member, team mom, and administrator.
