North Wales is often described as a mythical place, steeped in history – where the mountains roll dramatically down to meet the sea. It is a place of outstanding natural beauty including 6 world heritage sites, medieval castles, rivers, mountains, chapels and churches! The golf courses are stunning and we have hand picked the best with a recurring theme: VACATION

Varied, Affordable, Convivial, Accessible, Testing, Inspiring, Original and Notorious.

Quite simply, the region offers choice, value and a warm welcome for all visiting golfers. With a mild climate and good soil structure the visitor can enjoy all year round golf. Between November and March lower rate green fees and reduced price packages are normally available. Let us help you create a great vacation to North Wales. Though it may be your first visit, we are sure that it will not be your last.

With a distinguished record in providing affordable, quality and award-winning golf breaks, Wales Golf Holidays looks forward to helping you with your golf holidays plans.

Hotels▶ the esplanade hotel, llandudno Golf-friendly hotel on The Promenade

with reasonable all year round rates. This 2* hotel with golfers bar and 60 en suite bedrooms has its own car park.

▶ the Quay hotel and spa, conwy Cool sophistication resonates through this chic Spa Hotel. Listed in the Luxury collection of Great Hotels of the World.

Golf Courses● abergele Gc Founded 1910 and designed by Hawtree this parkland

course is of muscular proportions at over 6500 yards par 72. This is a mostly flat course with strong par 4’s and a sting in tail! Greens to savour if you have a good putting stroke!

● conwy Gc This truly magnificent links is set on land between mountains and the sea. An awesome test of golf with a nail-biting finish that befits its status as an Open Championship qualifying course. At 6650 yards par 72, this is finger-licking good for all links enthusiasts.

● Maesdu Gc A challenging mixture of championship parkland golf with a hint of links offers various threats from tee to fairway and fairway to green. A venue for early European Tour events, Maesdu, at 6545 yards par 72, offers a true test for all golfers.

● North Wales Gc Founded in 1894, Sir Henry Cotton described North Wales GC as a “gem”. At 6287 yards par 71 it is a unique course with each of the holes on the back 9 having its own character. Our favourite, back-to-back par 3’s aptly named Hello and O’Hell!

● prestatyn Gc Championship links with strong holes throughout. Water hazards come into play on some early holes and the last few holes present a stern examination of one’s golf game. 6800 yards par 72.

● other recommended courses: rhuddlan Gc, a well established 6500 yard parkland course offering a good test of golf. rhos on sea Gc, recent developments have much improved this 6000 yard par 69 good value course.

Hotels▶ celtic royal hotel, caernarfon 3* hotel with over 100 bedrooms,

The Celtic Royal Hotel, has an art-deco bar, noted restaurant and leisure facilities. Perfect base for golfing breaks in Snowdonia.

▶ the plas Isa hotel, criccieth 3* family-run, comfortable hotel overlooking Cardigan Bay with 12 bedrooms, a small bar and restaurant. Ideal for small golfing parties.

Golf Courses● aberdovey Gc Aberdovey is a classical links golf course from designers

James Braid and Herbert Fowler. A traditional championship course with mischievous holes throughout its 6445 yards par 71 – it deserves its high ranking in the world’s best courses.

● abersoch Gc The original 9 links holes, designed by Harry Vardon, date back to 1907. The extension to 18 holes offer a mix of links/parkland which, though not long at 5819 yards par 69, provide for enjoyable game.

● Nefyn & District Gc Simply stunning – Cliff top links dating back to 1907 and Wales’ answer to Pebble Beach. Nefyn’s new course is sizeable at 6548 yards par 71, whilst its little sister, the Old (peninsula) course is 6201 yards. When playing the latter, avoid the temptations of the Ty Coch pub and savour the momentous as well as the quirky holes on the point.

● porthmadog Gc Another vintage golf course in a beautiful Snowdonia coastal setting, Porthmadog (a delightful 6363 yard par 71 gem) was shaped by James Braid. Compile your score on the heath land front 9 and hang on during the traditional links back 9 where bravery and good shot making are required in abundance.

● pwllheli Gc The gentle parkland holes start you off and settle you down before the rigours of the traditional links set in. Gorse, rough, careful bunkering and slick greens confer danger for errant shots on this 6000 yard par 69 course.

● royal town of caernarfon Gc What a lovely place to play golf… Caernarfon is set on gentle meadow land and though only 5891 yards par 69, provides for an interesting and enjoyable game of golf. Take time to enjoy the views of the Menai Straits and the Snowdonia mountains.

● royal st David’s (harlech) Gc In most golf writers’ top 50, the Royal is quite simply outstanding. Another classic from the Harry Shapland Colt stable at 6500 yards par 69 and, by the way, add to that wind, bunkering, blind shots, narrow fairways, dunes, punitive rough, undulating approaches to greens and the sss of 73, Royal St David’s is a true classic. This golf course, we suggest, is a must.

● other recommended courses: st Deiniol Gc, a James Braid course founded in 1906 where accuracy is a necessity. Borth & Ynyslas Gc, a traditional links designed by Harry Shapland Colt and one of the oldest courses in Wales.

en-suite bedrooms. Amongst the many facilities are cocktail bar, restaurant, 3 acre garden – all within easy access to the Menai Straits..

Golf Courses● anglesey Gc Anglesey GC at Rhosneigr is an unspoiled natural links with

sheep for company. Mainly flat, albeit with surprisingly few level lies, this 6800 yard par 71 course, with its sandy soil and good drainage, is playable all year round.

● Bull Bay Gc Bull Bay GC on the northern tip of Anglesey is worth the travel time. Herbert Fowler used the natural contours and features of the land when he designed this little belter. It’s only a 6200 yards par 70 but Bull Bay offers climbs and falls, twists and turns, lefts and rights, valleys and plateaus, rocks and gorse, joy and despair, all in equal measure.

● henllys hall Gc Created in 1996 this 5800 yard par 71 course is set in mature parkland in an elevated position with stunning views of Snowdonia. Natural hazards predominate with trees, streams and ponds punishing errant tee shots.

● holyhead Gc Another James Braid course this 6000+ yards par 71 is a little jewel, renowned for excellent putting surfaces. Accuracy rather than length is key to compiling a good score here. If you like a heathland challenge come and enjoy this fine golf course.
