Protected alignment

The busway alignment between Dorville Road, Carseldine and Telegraph Road, Bracken Ridge involves approved sections that have been protected as part of the Fitzgibbon Urban Development Area Development Scheme. This section is not subject to further community consultation.

The Urban Land Development Authority (ULDA) is responsible for master planning for the Fitzgibbon Urban Development Area, including the former QUT Carseldine site.

The Northern Busway: Kedron to Bracken Ridge is an integral part of the Queensland Government’s long-term plan to meet the transport needs of Brisbane’s growing northern suburbs.

The busway will form part of the wider busway network for South East Queensland that delivers cleaner and greener transport solutions.

Planning for the busway now will ensure the land required is identified and protected to meet the public transport needs of the future. Once the corridor is protected, any development proposed in the vicinity of the corridor will be assessed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. This will ensure:

any new development is integrated with • future busway facilities

impacts are minimised when the busway • is built

residents and property owners have • greater certainty about future plans.

The next stage of the planning process involves further techincal investigations and reviewing community feedback to identify the preferred corridor.

Community consultation plays an important role in identifying a busway alignment by providing the project team with invaluable local knowledge and feedback.

A community reference group has been established to enhance community consultation.

Community consultation activities remain a constant part of the planning process, enabling the project team to receive important feedback on busway planning.

Planning the Northern Busway: Kedron to Bracken Ridge will combine the eff orts of the local community and the planning team to develop the most suitable option for connecting Brisbane’s northern suburbs.

Northern Busway: Kedron to Bracken Ridge

Bracken Ridge park ‘n’ ride

A site at Bracken Ridge, near Telegraph Road has been protected as part of the busway planning through Fitzgibbon under the Fitzgibbon Development Scheme, as a future busway station and park ‘n’ ride facility.

The location and number of parking spaces for the park ‘n’ ride site will be determined as part of ongoing planning.

Why was this section of the busway alignment determined and approved ahead of other sections?

Planning for this section of the busway was accelerated to ensure the protection of a busway alignment by declaration of the busway corridor within the Fitzgibbon ULDA Development Scheme.

Why isn’t a busway alignment being considered along Beams Road?

The busway alignment through the Fitzgibbon Urban Development Area has been positioned to:

maximise the opportunity to service new • development within the area;

improve connections to Carseldine train station • and the Chermside Principal Activity Centre;

allow for the future grade separation of Beams • Road and the north coast rail line.

Beams Road is a constrained corridor with existing high volumes of traffi c. It is unlikely a busway would fi t

within this corridor without property requirements.

A busway station will be located on the eastern side

of Carseldine train station, and will promote easy

interchange between the busway and train services.

How buses will travel between Dorville Road and Carseldine train station

In the short term, it is proposed buses would

continue to travel on Dorville Road to the Carseldine

bus and train interchange, via Beams Road.

In the longer term, buses would travel from Dorville

Road, via a local road in the former QUT Carseldine

site, which would connect to Carseldine train station,

via a rail overpass.

The Urban Land Development Authority is

undertaking planning for the former QUT Carseldine

Buses would travel on the road with general traffi c.
