STRUCTURAL DESIGN ENGINEERS

POSTGRADUATE COURSES
Loughry provides full and part time courses in Communication, Food Technology and Supply Management (Food). The postgraduate Communication programmes are Queen’s University Belfast awards taught at Loughry Campus.

ANALYSTS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT)
The successful candidate will be responsible for either conducting analysis of various drug actives in biological matrices using both HPLC and microbiological analysis within a Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulated environment or analysis of a wide variety of Pharmaceutical dosage forms and chemical entities within a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulated environment. They will also perform a range of tasks including validation and calibration of equipment; assisting in the characterisation of Reference Standards and will be responsible for both study analysis and the development and subsequent validation of Standard Operating Methods (SOM's) to both European and FDA standards.
Applicants should be educated to at least Degree level in a Science related discipline, although relevant laboratory experience will also be considered. Applicants should possess both excellent communication and organisational skills. In addition they should possess attention to detail as paperwork must be completed to a very high standard. He/she will be highly motivated and willing to join a dedicated laboratory team. Whilst not essential it would be advantageous for candidates to have previous experience in the laboratory working with instruments such as HPLC, UV, IR, GC, etc. The successful applicant will undergo a training programme.

Based within our Quality Control Department, the successful candidate will be involved in conducting day-to-day routine analysis of raw materials and finished products. Duties will include HPLC, GC, IR and UV analysis, compilation of reports and implementation of new methods of analysis. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a new paradigm for constructing complex software systems and promises much greater flexibility for composing tailored enterprise applications that satisfy specific customer needs and business strategies. However, the non-functional behaviour of such systems, such as performance, is not yet well understood. Collaborative research is being carried out between SAP Research in Belfast and the University of Ulster to derive more comprehensive performance and resource models for Service Oriented Architectures within SAP. Our vision is that these models will evolve over time and enable better decision-support during any phase of a software solution’s lifecycle. The major research themes and potential PhD topics in this context include:
How to describe the performance and resource consumption characteristics of services/components in a complex service-oriented architecture.

PHD: MANAGEMENT IN VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS
Businesses in future service-oriented economies need to act in a more agile fashion than ever before. Therefore, business to business interaction must become as dynamic as possible in order to deliver the requested services. This directly leads to the concept of Virtual Management in which it should be possible to dynamically and frequently assign resources (physical or virtual) to services within short periods of time. The life time of such dynamic environments can be in the range of minutes. Consequently, new mechanisms to establish and control such dynamic environments are needed. In particular, the following topics must be addressed:

Customer Applications Engineer Engineering degree
Directly assist customers in solving design issues by providing appropriate workarounds and solutions to a wide spectrum of technical challenges.
Share your technical knowledge with the larger Xilinx technical design community by creating Application Notes and Answer Records as well as interacting with developers.
Support fellow engineers in the field by providing support services on strategic design opportunities such as design evaluation and design conversion.
Demand PlannerBusiness Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research or related field of study
Manage customer order scheduling and order rescheduling per assigned product lines. Attain high levels of on-time delivery performance to customer orders scheduled with diagnosis and prevention action plan setting and execution to maintain the required level of on-time delivery performance.
Management and monitoring of timely assembly, mark, and test lot releases to Xilinx sub-contractors or internal manufacturing.
Manage the detailed activities required to achieve quarter end revenue attainment execution plans. Provide analysis of various supply demand scenarios, inventory analysis and reconciliation, and report specification and generation of business management information as required.
Interact and interface with cross-functional departments such as Customer Service, Quality, Marketing, Business Unit, Engineering, Strategic Planning, Factory Planning, and Manufacturing.
Identify and drive process improvement activities in order to meet the goals set for the demand planning team.
