Dear Sisters and Brothers of the California-Pacific Conference,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ. We, the members of the
California-Pacific Cabinet, write to you today as one voice. We write to you as leaders committed to
consistency and continuity in a time of unexpected change. To a person, we your Cabinet, have been
excited about this coming quadrennium that holds so much promise for vital ministry. Our confidence
and hope is born out of the work we have all done the past four years under the leadership of
Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño to right the course of our Conference stewardship and structure. Under her
tenure, the Conference budget has finished in the black the past four years, apportionments have risen
each year and this past year, for the first time in many, the California-Pacific Conference fulfilled its
connectional apportionment giving at 100%. In addition, we have streamlined our ministry structure and
fully staffed the Conference Connectional Ministry team with called and skilled leaders. George Bernard
Shaw once said, “Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” Bishop Carcaño has
changed our minds as a Conference. We have moved from a mindset of scarcity to abundance and
uncertainty to vibrancy.
Bishop Minerva G. Carcaño has been a leader who is a living witness to a deep faith in Jesus Christ. She
has been a tireless driving force for excellence and Christian accountability. She has been a prophetic
voice of change in the church, and inclusiveness in our communities. We thank God for her ministry in
our midst and ask God’s blessing on her and the California-Nevada Conference she goes to lead. As she
leaves, we her Cabinet, share the conviction that the challenges she put before us, and the standards
she lifted up to us, will not fade. We are committed to continue working with the gifted clergy and lay
leadership of the California-Pacific Conference to keep the wind strong in the sails of positive change
here in our Conference.
Our itineracy system requires us to be ready for change, and our Bishops, like all clergy, have offered
themselves to be ready when called. As Bishop Carcaño moves to her next call, Bishop Grant Hagiya
arrives to lead us. We trust that God will now use the unique gifts and
graces of Bishop Hagiya to bless the California-Pacific Conference. We,
as his Cabinet, will partner with him to continue to move our ministry
into new places, identifying new leaders, and creating new
possibilities for God’s transformative work in the name of Jesus Christ.
We pray you will join us in this unified spirit as together we prepare
for another year “Inspiring the world, as passionate followers of Jesus
Christ; so all may experience God’s life giving love.”

Children & Family
September 11 is Homecoming Sunday! We will begin our Fall Schedule of two worship services and
two Sunday School times. Join us at 9 am or 11 am!
Children (preschool-5th grade) will meet in the Kendall building for Sunday School.
Nursery Care is available at both services for infants and toddlers.
Immerse your children in the Bible with a rotational curriculum
where children alternate between learning stations each week.
We will engage children in Bible stories and characters by using
their skills as artists, cooks, scientists and more! In this rotational
learning setting, the same Bible story or theme is taught for
several weeks. The story remains the same, but children
encounter it in different ways in each station. The 7 Deep Blue
Rotation stations are: Art, Cooking, Games, Missions, Science,
Spiritual Practices, Storytelling/Drama.

Your Northridge United Methodist Foundation In 2014, NUMC’s Endowment Fund Committee was formally incorporated as the Northridge United Methodist Foundation. The Foundation manages the Mission Growth Fund and the General Endowment Fund for NUMC. Today, the Foundation’s funds total more than $650,000. These funds help support programs and services that are outside the church budget. Donors have remembered loved ones in memorials, celebrated events, or honored deserving friends. Some gifts are designated for specific areas; others are used as needed for the church and community. The funds are invested carefully and prayerfully and only the earnings are spent, thereby providing “forever” gifts. Do gifts to the church or the Foundation serve different purposes? Both further God’s work and promote Christianity in Northridge and beyond. Both reflect the NUMC Mission Statement. If a gift of money is given to the church, does it also go to the Foundation? The Foundation is a separate entity with its own charter and by-laws. Gifts to the Foundation must be directed to “Northridge United Methodist Foundation”. Can I direct my gift to a particular program or area of the church? Will my wishes be honored? Donor’s wishes are always honored, whether a gift is given to the church or the Foundation. A donation may have a specific designation or be added to the General Endowment Fund. What is the minimum amount for a donation? Are small gifts appropriate? There is neither a minimum nor maximum, and every gift furthers God’s work. Where can I find more information about the Foundation? All Foundation Board members are in the directory and will be happy to talk with you. The current Board includes Mike Easterly (president), Char Anderson, Bruce Keeler, Jim Krohn, Jo-Ann Seitzinger, Peggy Walters, Everto Ruiz, John Watring, Frank Sciarabba, Rev. Dr. Joseph Choi (Pastor, ex-officio), Dorrel Atteberry (Treasurer, ex-officio).

Mission & Outreach
Primetimers at the Getty
The Senior Ministries Team has a new chair with Peggy Walters taking over the helm. We are excited about the programs we have in place for seniors and look forward to reviewing them to see how we can make them better and to explore new ideas. Peggy would like to hear from you about any suggestions you might have. I will be at Peggy's side helping and working with the group in any way possible.

TRIP TO A VILLA with thanks to Kay Lynn McGregor
Another Primetimers adventure
Full of fun and laughter. In the parking lot we gather
For our bus ride together To enjoy the collected treasures
At the Malibu Getty Villa.
Rattle, rattle, shake and bump As we hit freeway humps,
Lots of jarring jumps, And a few extra heart pumps
Just riding in the bus… I guess the adventure
Has already begun.
So many things to see From Rome, Greece,
And Etruscans that came between. Items once used commonly,
Not intended as a legacy, Kept, along with art, to be seen;
Both ornament and utility Give a glimpse at their ability Each as civilizations unique.
Columns and arches, Promenades grand, Lovely open spaces
With statues and seats for gazing. Gardens finely pruned
And, despite the drought, green; Palms and pomegranates,
Sycamores and evergreens, Trees of all shapes
Offer contrast and shade. All cooled by soft ocean breezes.

Knollwood UMC, as well as from Hope Gardens, I would like to thank Northridge UMC for your generosity.

Tandy and I are so grateful for the love and support of our NUMC family

made the time go faster. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

Rayvon Moore
We warmly welcome Rayvon Moore as our new Director of Music and Chancel Choir.
Rayvon is currently completing his Masters of
Music degree in choral conducting at Cal State
University, Fullerton where he is also Teaching
Assistant for the Women’s Choir. He is the
Director of Choral Activities at the Saturday
Conservatory where he teaches two voice
classes and has expanded the program to two
choirs.
Rayvon sees music as a ministry that has the
power to bring people together, to help mend
a broken heart or ease a troubled mind.
Through that ministry he wants to share his
love for God and His people.
Artistically, Rayvon hopes to bring musical diversity by having the choir sing in different styles. He
also hopes to bring a youthfulness to our music ministry by encouraging more young adults to be
involved in praising God through song.
His deep love and devotion to God is best expressed in Romans 1:16. “For I am not ashamed of the
gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth…”
His wife, Brittany, is a licensed Registered Nurse and is currently the RN Supervisor over Jordon and
Locke Wellness Center. They have been married for one year.
In addition to his already full life, Rayvon plays tennis, swims, binge watches TV shows, plays the
saxophone, clarinet and piano.
We look forward to Rayvon’s leadership in the music ministry of NUMC.
