P&C NEWSWelcome to Term 2!

Hoping everyone had a safe and relaxing Easter after all theexcitement of Cyclone Debbie!

• Remember everyone gets stressed during tests andeveryone has to learn how to manage these feelings

• Know that stress is your body’s way of getting readyto take on a challenge and perform at your best

• If you breathe out and count silently, “one thousand, two thousand, three thousand”, you will start to feelcalmer

• Maintaining a powerful posture sends a signal to yourbrain that you are feeling in charge of things

• Eat breakfast –a mix of protein (like eggs) andcarbohydrates (like toast)

• Drink water

• Get a good night’s sleep

• Remember that tests and exams are important, butthey are not the big predictors of life success.

Over the holidays the P&C hosted a barbecue at Bunningswhich allowed us to raise a sizeable amount of money for theNorville School Chaplaincy Program. We appreciate everythingthat Brenda, our Chaplain does for our school and the students, and are so happy we were able to support this great service.

The rescheduled Run for Fun took place on Friday 21 April -thanks Debbie! What a top effort on behalf of all the students-both in running and their fundraising. All funds raised shouldhave now been returned to the office or paid via online byFriday 21 April.

Thanks to Tui and her volunteers in the tuckshop for theirassistance with the sausage sizzle on the 29 March - evenwithout running the Fun Run on that day I am sure the studentsenjoyed the snags!

SCHOOL ADMINISTERED MEDICATION –MUST READ

NEW DEPARTMENTAL GUIDELINES:

OVER-THE-COUNTER (OTC) MEDICATIONS

The Department recognises that all medications, includingover-the-counter (OTC) medications, e.g. paracetamol oralternative medicines, may be drugs or poisons and may causeside effects. As such, schools are required to receive medicalauthorisation from a prescribing health practitioner (e.g. doctor, dentist, optometrist, but NOT a pharmacist) to administer anymedication to students, including those boughtover-the-counter.

Whilst parents may administer OTC mediations to their childwithout medical authorisation, they are aware of the child’scomplete medical history, and are able to provide ongoing, direct supervision for the course of the child’s illness. Due tothese circumstances, a parent is also more likely to recogniseif their child is having adverse effects and requires immediatemedical attention.

The student’s prescribing health practitioner also has theknowledge of the child’s medical history to determine theappropriate OTC medication to administer and is therefore ableto determine dosage and provide advice regarding potentialside effects or interactions with other medications.
