I would like to offer thanks for all of you who provide food for the Catholic Charities Food Pantry each month. I am awed each month at the amount of food that is donated. So many of our food pantries receive help from the government for some of their operation, but most of the supply comes from people like you. Thanks to everyone who transports it to the pantry as well. Today, I would also like to say thanks to Matt Gornick and Ken Fedinets for their work at our recycle rallies. This Sunday will be the last rally that St. Kieran Hosts. Matt and Ken wrote an article that will be in the bulletin next week, but I thought I would include it today so on your way home you could stop by and say thanks to them. They have been doing the rally for over 16 years. That is a long time and it shows their commitment to St. Kieran and the planet. Times change and our recyclers do not pay anymore for what we recycle. We will continue to have the paper bins in the back of the school for drop off, but we will not collect aluminum or other items anymore. Thanks Matt and Ken!!!! Finally, if you like to golf, St. Agnes will host the Joe Dee Classic on Sunday, September 10th. Information can be found in the bulletin or you may call the parish office as well. All proceeds support St. Agnes School. Notes from Fr. John TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — I saw one like a Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven (Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14). The St. Kieran Women’s Club

Invites you to join us for our

2017 Woman of the Year Recognition & Member Dinner

THE SEPTEMBER 1 REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS FAST APPROACHING! If you have not yet registered your children for 2017-2018 Religious Education classes, please do so soon. The registration form is available on the St. Kieran website, and must be returned to the St. Agnes/ St. Kieran Religious Education Office as soon as possible. All 2016/2017 tuition and fees must be paid in full before your registration for 2017/2018 will be accepted. We are still in need of teachers and adult aides for the upcoming year. If you think this worthwhile ministry might be for you, call 708/754-0713. Teri Klopp will be happy to discuss requirements and expectations with you.

Each week in the RCIA program, we will discuss questions not only pertaining to the Catholic Religion, but questions we all can relate to. For example:

The first weeks:

Does God Exist?

What does our personal experience tell us about God?

And the Big Question: If God is good, why is there Evil and Suffering in the world?

Then we will talk about Jesus:

Why is Jesus called a Teacher and what did he teach?

Why did Jesus suffer and die for us? We can’t talk about God the Father and Jesus His Son without mention of the Holy Spirt. He completes the package. As Catholics, we believe in One God in Three Divine Persons. We call them the Holy Trinity. We will discuss the role of the Holy Spirit. How does the Holy Spirit speaks to us?

If you or a member of your family are thinking about becoming Catholic, if this article has sparked your interest, call the Teri Klopp at the RE Office 708/754-0713 or send an email to Joe Sopron at [email protected]. We can discuss the program.

St. Kieran collection for needy children of Chicago Heights;

School District 170, Serena Hills & St. Agnes Schools Many families in our community struggle to afford the necessities of everyday life. With a new school year starting up, that extends to the children as well. It is important for students to have the proper supplies, but if the choice is between a notebook and dinner, what would you do? Between a backpack or a uniform? Unfortunately, these are real decisions made in households throughout Chicago Heights. Please help us make back-to-school time a positive and productive experience for ALL students by providing any of the following items (or money to buy these items). Thank you for your support!

Do you know of a Catholic medical professional interested in serving internationally? Please help us spread the word about our Fall Retreat! We are offering a Retreat/Seminar at Loyola Stritch, in Chicago September 15–17 for Catholic Doctors, Dentists, Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners and their spouses, who have consi-dered this service option. The weekend provides the opportunity to reflect on the call to serve in light of faith, hear about the specific locations currently seeking medical profes-sionals, hear from doctors and their spouses who have served at these locations, and includes presentations on the Theology of Mission, common medical issues faced, and the practical aspects of service related to visas and licensing. Since 1959, Mission Doctors has worked with to make it possible for Catholic Doctors to share their professional skills as they live their faith, in response to requests we receive from Bishops and Religious orders in Mission. Those interested are invited to visit the web site to learn more: www.MissionDoctors.org/loyola, com-plete an application, and register for the weekend. If you have any questions, please contact Elise Frederick at [email protected] or call to 213-368-1875.
