We officially opened our community in the Fall of 2014 with a dozen employees and three residents. Since that time, I have enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of each new resident move-in, the on-boarding of all our employees who work here today, and have simply had the honor to be a part of an amazing community. As most of you are aware my position with Belmont Village will be changing in April from Executive Director to Regional Operations Specialist. As a Regional Operations Specialist I will be assisting our new Executive Director, Ron Shakir, to transition into his leadership role for Hunter’s Creek. This transition is not without a little bit of sadness as this community holds a very special place in my heart. When we opened Belmont Village Hunter’s Creek almost two years ago it was filled with many joyful and challenging moments. We have experienced wonderful milestones and successes along the way. I know I could not have reached any of these milestones without the amazing staff who support the growth and success of this community. The employees who execute the delivery of services each and every day are the best of the best and I feel privileged to have them as part of our Belmont Village family. I personally want to say thank you to all of the staff of Belmont Village Hunter’s Creek for their loyalty, dedication and for helping me to exceed the expectations of our residents and their families. For all of the residents and families, please know how truly honored I feel to be a part of your journey. I have enjoyed every moment of it. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you along the way and know I will continue to be here to support you in any way possible.

Health

Falls in Older AdultsFalls among older adults just

don’t happen. Often older adultshave an underlying cause or riskfactor. As your number of riskfactors rises so does the riskof falling.

A number of personal riskfactors are linked to falling:muscle weakness, especially inlegs, balance and gait, droppingblood pressure, slower reflexes aswe age, changes in vision andsensory perception, long- andshort-term confusion and sideeffects, and numbers ofmedications.

Other factors leading to falls:loose rugs, clutter on floor, carrying too heavy or bulkythings, and no grab bars in thebathroom. Many older adults havea fear of falling. Some older adultsmay limit or stop doing activitiesdue to this fear.

Speak with your doctor aboutyour risk of falling. Your doctormay refer you to physical therapyto help improve your balance andwalking and to regain confidencein your abilities. Additionally,Belmont Village residents have theconvenience of The Center for LifeEnhancement for exercise and toobtain physical therapy andoccupational therapy.
