Year 1 have been really creative making Eid celebration cards. We used paint and stencils to make our final designs. We wish all of our friends and families of Marlborough a very happy Eid.

This week Year 1 are learning about position and direction in maths. We did some exciting

outdoor learning working collaboratively. We paired up and used our new key vocabulary to

guide our partners to their final destination. We are learning how to describe turns using

left, right, quarter, half and full turns.

Year 1 have been exploring modern narratives. We have been focusing on ‘The Gruffalo’. We have been really creative in creating a visual story map and creating our own monster like the Gruffalo. Have a look at our work.

In Literacy Year 1 have been planning and writing their own Dr Seuss poems.

We have made our own. There's a wocket in my pocket! Did you ever feel there is a stocket in your rocket? And I think they are nice in my house with a bink in my sink Something are hidden somewhere and one is a ped in my shed And a med in my bed And a soilet in my toilet And a misket in a biscuit By Robert 1 Banksy Did you ever have the feeling there is a zaloon in the balloon? Or a chore in your door? Or a thike on your bike? Sometimes I feel quite certain there is a soat on your boat And a chot in the pot I have talked to myself that’s the kind of house I live in There’s a sountain on a mountain And a miser on a scissor And they’re rather great I think some of them are thoughtful Like a laint on the paint But that scrab on a crab Some are friendly some are not Kacper 1 Banksy Is there a woket in my pocket? Time to press the button on the mutton I am wearing a sumper on a jumper Do I have a window on top of the bindow? There is a smeedle in my needle Sadiya 1 Banksy

At Marlborough Primary School, we are fully committed to ensuring your child reaches their full

potential. We firmly believe in strengthening the partnership between school and home and we

want to do everything we possibly can to help parents and families support their children.

With this in mind, last week groups of parents were invited to a range of workshops to explore

‘greater depth’ writing; what it means and how children can achieve it.

The workshops, run by Mr Briody, Ms Ring, Ms Bourne and Ms Gold, were divided into the key

stages to help parents fully understand the expectations of the writing curriculum and how they can

best support their child at home.

We would like to thank the parents who came along this workshop. We hope that they found it

useful and informative.

Look out for more parent workshops in the next academic year as we work on strengthening our

parent partnership further.

ALLEYWAY TO MARLBOROUGH SCHOOL

A Parent has made Marlborough aware of an incident involving anti-social behaviour in the alleyway

to school. This was reported to the Metropolitan Police on 23rd May 2019. A Local Safer

Neighbourhood Officer will be in touch with us. The school is doing everything they can to assist to

prevent this kind of behaviour reoccurring.

Year 3 & 4 had an extraordinary time at Chessington World of Adventures on Wednesday the 12th of

June! Children (and staff) overcame their fears and showed great bravery as they adventured on new

rides with their friends. It was definitely a day to remember and the children have had some fantastic

comments about the day:

"This was my first real chance to go on enormous

rollercoasters and it was extremely nerve-wracking

experience for me! But as soon as I got on the ride, I

loved it! My favourite ride would have to be Dragon

Fury, even though I had to close my eyes for the whole

time! Miss Kangas was supporting me (and giggling at

the same time) and I am proud that I tried the ride. It

was thrilling and startling at the same time. I can't wait

to go back!" Neha, 3 King

"I want to go back to Chessington straight away

because we had so much fun on the rides. I want to go

back on the Cobra ride especially but all of the rest too!" Rocco, 3 King

"My favourite part about the whole trip was that I could spend time with my friends. It was exciting to

go on the rides with them and I want to do it all over again!" Ariana, 3 King

Cricket Match The Match was good. We were all improving, our team did the best they could. I think the other schools were good especially as they do practice as a team. I hope we can do better next time. It’s not like I’m saying we were bad. We should start a cricket club! Swayam 4 Lama

SPORTS NEWS

Athletics at Bannister Stadium

I discovered a lot being a Sports Leader at Bannister stadium. We all enjoyed ourselves and we

learnt how to encourage KS1 kids. We taught them how to collaborate and compete with each

other. At first we thought we couldn’t do it, but we got there in the end! All the children

enjoyed themselves. We experienced something very different. Alisha – 5 Potter

I helped with Year 2’s from difference schools who did fun activities like roll the dice and other

games. We taught them how to play activities and tried to boost their confidence. At the end

the best school was won a medal. Tayab 5 Austen

Blyton Class have had a wonderful week of learning and thought it only fair that we let you in on what we have been up to... In English, our class has been learning about narratives and language devices to help us make our stories even better. Our narratives are going to be Sci-Fi Narratives and they are based on a picture book called Beegu. Beegu is a shiny, yellow alien who crashes on Planet Earth. He must try to get back home but can't because her UFO broke down. Today, we have been developing a plan and tomorrow we will turn these plans in to our real stories. Stay tuned to read our complete stories later. You may want to get our autographs now before we become famous authors!

In Maths, we have been learning about capacity and volume. We have been exploring the difference between volume and capacity and using this knowledge to estimate measurements. Estimating has been really hard but I think we have the hang of it now.

Did you know...? Volume only measures the space of the 3D shape and to find the volume we use the formula length x width x height. An example is 6 x 2 x 2 = 24cm3 Capacity is when you have to measure liquid not a solid object. To do that you can measure using scales but after becoming more confident in this, we can estimate. Estimating means when you make a guess about the measurement. When we estimated a mug we thought it could be 200mL but when we measured it was 250mL. Close though. Here are some of our favourite moments from the week... "My favourite lesson this week was art. We used David Hockney's artwork to inspire us to sketch our own landscapes. I really liked the one I sketched because it had a reflection." – Sumaya "In Science, I learnt a new word...Metamorphosis. It is a really interesting word and I know now what it means." – Haziq "I liked learning about Metamorphosis - it is so cool that this is a process some animals, like butterflies, go through." – Sadie "In Maths, I really enjoyed when we estimated and measured the capacity of various bottles. I liked this because it was interesting to compare our measurements to what we estimated." – Janah
