MUSEUM OF LONDON TRIP RECOUNT
Hungry
Lily 4 Mandela
Starving, famished, ravenous, puckish.
Early in the morning I woke up and shot out of bed like a rocket. I ate my delicious breakfast
and got dressed. Too my pack lunch put it in my bag and ran to school. As I entered the
playground, I saw a blanket of excited faces from Year Four.
We were waiting for the train we waited so long it felt like years until it came. We staggered
on the colossal train and rode on it. We walked so much until I saw the Museum I forgot
about the pain in my legs the building was monstrous.
We tottered in and learnt all about the gruesome Romans, Medieval Britain and the plague.
I discovered so many things it was extraordinary. Then it was lunchtime we ate some
appetizing food then observed the Bronze Age.

WELLBEING AT MARLBOROUGH In the last academic year, we told you about the Wellbeing Award for Schools and since then we have been beavering away on a wellbeing programme like never before. We have launched several initiatives that have helped to embed wellbeing into the curriculum, extra-curricular activities and through the schools' vision and ethos. We have surveyed staff, parents and pupils to really try to understand where our gaps lie and have identified Wellbeing Champions throughout the community. Our newly appointed Mini Mentors are particularly keen to spread the wellbeing message and are now the guardians of wellbeing in and out of the classroom. They have also helped to launch the wellbeing poster competition and all our winners will be displayed in the assembly hall. The poster has the theme 'feeling good in mind and body'. As there is so much going on, we have created some new wellbeing web pages to update you on the news (https://marlboroughprimary.school/wellbeing). From here, you can link to further information about some of the activities we have been running, find our directory of supportive organisations (https://marlboroughprimary.school/wellbeing_directory) and also more information on the Wellbeing Award for Schools (https://marlboroughprimary.school/wellbeing_award). Please do get in touch if you would like to add anything to the wellbeing programme or get involved.
It was with great excitement, that after many months of anticipation, Marlborough was able to unveil the brand new KS1 Outdoor Area. After months of planning, organising and preparing, we have finally got a fantastic area for the children to explore in. The children were very excited to see the playground open
and couldn't wait to start discovering. Well done to everyone involved with the project.
OPENING OF EARLY YEARS OUTDOOR AREA
CHESS COMPETITION
AT
At precisely 11.50am we departed from our classes and hurried down to the lunch hall. We
hastily wolfed down our lunch and dashed to wait by the Main Office. A short while later, Mr.
Castro and Mr. Stannet arrived and we bounded out of the school gates, chattering joyfully.
We walked briskly into the alley way and arrived at the bus stop near Cunningham Park and
when we disembarked from the bus we were only 5-10- minutes away. We walked for a short
while until we arrived at the school hosting the competition: St Teresa. In our excitement to
get there we were early. We were then escorted to the playground. Not far later, we entered
the Main Hall where the tournament began.
Each match was eight minutes long and a Checkmate earned your school 5 points. If you won
by points you got 3 and a draw gained 1. In the end Marlborough came 4th with an amazing 57
points.
All in all I found it was an outstanding experience. I myself learnt a new 4 move checkmate
call the Scholars Checkmate.
I look forward to the next tournament.

Our trip to the Tower of London which we visited as part of our History unit
Crime and Punishment. We learnt all about the prisoners that were kept in
the Tower of London, including the most famous prisoner Anne Boleyn
We also learnt about how what the prison cells were like and how they were a
lot better than normal prison cells.

Malta was the best
experience of my life. If I
didn’t do gymnastics I
wouldn’t have gone to Malta.
We also had to wake up at 3
am. The events were floor,
vault, beam and finally bars. I
got 3 Golds and 1 Silver. I
LOVE GYM!! Guiluia, Gracie,
Katie, Zofia, Catherine and
Grace went. Two of my gym
friends Arisa and Ela did not
go.

Malta was amazing. I think it was the best experience of my life. I learnt so much.
Even if we didn’t win it would have still been fun to do gymnastics in a small country
in the Mediterranean Sea. It was also fun in our hotel, there were swimming pools
and our rooms were very nice. I went with my twin, Katie and her best friend Grace.
I LOVE GYM!
Malta was very hot and sunny so I hope I can get used to the plummeting rain and
strong winds. It was like a little holiday. It felt amazing to be with my friends, Grace,
Katie, Guiluia, Zofia, Catherine and me. This is my first trip to Malta and I think it
went pretty well. Although I did miss my other friends.
Gracie
In Malta we had a few days when we
could have fun and do what we wanted.
However, on the other days we had to
concentrate on our training and nothing
else. My whole group watched the older
girls do their competition whilst ours
happened the next day. We were all very
happy with our results. The next day,
Sunday we had to leave at 6 am to the
International Malta Airport. All of the
competitors from all around the world
went there then we split to go to
different countries.

Year 1 and 2 have recently held their very first successful Welcome Wednesday mornings! In
these sessions, parents were provided with an opportunity to participate in the teaching
and learning experiences alongside their children.
Parents found this session extremely helpful
as they were able to observe the teaching
methods used in class that they can adopt at
home to further support the children. The
children also loved having their parents in
the classroom as they showcased their
wonderful learning.
Below are some comments from parents…
“It was fantastic to see how the children learn and interact with each other!” “I was amazed to see the level of learning the class is already at.” “It was very informative of what is being
taught in the class and high levels of
learning. I understand what my daughter
need to work on.”
KS1 WELCOME WEDNESDAY
Blue Peter Badge
Lola 3 King
I am so happy that I got a Blue Peter Diamond
badge. You must already have a badge to be
able to apply for the Diamond badge. They
are issuing this because they are 60 years old.
You can only get one of these badges during
this year. To get a badge you must fill out a
template and draw a picture of a show. For
one of the questions I had to ask someone I
knew. I asked my Grandma and she said “A
chocolate cake of Mayonnaise”.

On Friday 9th November, ten members of the school choir were selected to perform World War One songs to the residence of Kent House Residential Home. The residence commented on how professional the choir sounded and even shared their memories of the songs with the pupils.
This visit served as a final rehearsal before the choir’s performance at the Harrow Art Centre on Sunday 11th November.
The concert was to commemorate one hundred years since world war one started and all those who fought for Britain in this particular war.
The pupils sung their hearts out with passion and emotion at what was a very memorable occasion.

The children have worked on ideas to save energy in School These are some of their fantastic ideas. We are going to make reminder 'turn off' stickers to stick under your light switches, computers and whiteboards so that we all remember to turn off the electricity when not in use. We are going to speak to Mr Boyle about our lightbulbs and get some more information about the timers that are on the lights. We are going to begin having a Light Free day where we open all our blinds and use natural light instead of wasting electricity (day to be confirmed). We are going to hold an energy saving day (in spring term) where everyone learns about electricity and alternate ways to generate power e.g. potatoes/lemons. Your class eco-squad member is in charge of turning off all the lights and power in your classroom. Look into getting a timer put on the school electricity so that after hours, everything turns off. The Eco- Squad will run an assembly at some point to engage the children in this topic and hopefully we can reduce our electricity bills and use the money we save on something better for the children!!
I got my Head teacher’s Award for my homework. I wrote a story about a
slice of pizza and its journey through my digestive system. I used an app
called sketchbook to make it look nice. I typed out each step of the
journey and cut and pasted pictures.
