Clemson pitchers Charlie Barnes, Ryley Gilliam and Brooks Crawford combined for a school- record 23 strikeouts against no walks in Friday’s 1-0, 13-inning win over visiting Elon. The trio broke the previous record of 21 strikeouts against Furman on April 30, 1923 and South Carolina on April 4, 1952. The 23 strikeouts were the second-most by any ACC team in a single game, trailing only North Carolina’s 31 versus Akron in 18 innings on March 4, 2009. Miami also had 23 versus Indiana State on March 10, 1981. Virginia Tech centerfielder Rahiem Cooper hit three home runs, including two grand slams to lead the Hokies to a 24-10 win over Nevada on Sunday afternoon. Cooper became the first Virginia Tech player to hit two grand slams in the same game (in recorded history) and the second Hokie with a three-home run game this season (also Sam Fragale last weekend). Cooper is just the second ACC player to hit two grand slams in the same game, joining Virginia’s Steve Cunha, who hit two versus Maryland on April 28, 1990. Fragale and Georgia Tech’s Kel Johnson – each of whom have three-home run games to their credit – continue to share the ACC lead in that category with five this season. Cooper has four following Sunday’s outburst, matching Wake Forest’s Stuart Fairchild … Fragale, who is also tied for the early ACC lead in doubles, has registered 37 total bases through eight games. North Carolina junior pitcher J.B. Bukauskas leads the conference with 21 strikeouts in his two starts, just one ahead of freshman teammate Luca Dalarti (20) … Neither Bukauskas nor Boston College sophomore Jacob Stevens has allowed an earned run in 13 innings of work, and Pitt junior Josh Mitchell has worked 12 shutout innings thus far … North Carolina freshman closer Josh Hiatt has registered an ACC-leading five saves in the Tar Heels’ seven wins to date. Nine ACC teams are ranked this week in one of the national polls, with Virginia Tech joining the ranked teams at No. 19 in Collegiate Baseball. NCAA COACHING RECORD BOOK

Sheets had a monster week at the plate for the Demon Deacons, tallying 16 RBIs, 10 hits, three home runs, two doubles, three walks, and nine runs scored to lead Wake Forest to a midweek win over UNC Greensboro and a series victory over USC. The junior from Baltimore, Maryland, tied program records with three home runs and nine RBIs in the series-opening win over USC on Friday. Sheets hit .588 on the week, and posted a slugging percentage of 1.235 and an on-base percentage of .619.

Holton set a career-high with 11 strikeouts and tied a career-high with 7.0 innings pitched in a 8-0 win over Samford. The sophomore from Tallahassee, Florida, allowed just two hits and three walks on the day. In two starts this season, Holton has a 0.69 ERA in 13 innings pitched with 19 strikeouts and five hits allowed.

In just his second career start, Dalatri struck out 15 batters with no walks in a 7-5 win over Radford. The freshman from Wall Township, New Jersey, threw just 99 pitches with 75 strikes, and went to a 3-ball count just one time in 28 bat-ters. The 15 strikeouts are the most by a Tar Heel pitcher since Matt Harvey struck out 15 at Clemson in 2010, and are the most for a North Carolina freshman under Mike Fox (since 1999).
