Letter From Deacon Nick Danze, Pastoral Associate
Dear Parishioners, As we are now fully engaged in the Penitential Season of Lent, the Lenten liturgies place great focus on the elect and the candidates of our Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Our Gospel stories focus on what are called the Scrutinies. The scrutinies are celebrated in order to deliver the elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation, and to give them strength in Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life. These rites “complete the conversion of the elect and deepen their resolve to hold fast to Christ and to carry out their decision to love God above all." The Gospel stories during these last weeks of Lent challenge us who call ourselves Chris-tians, to turn from ourselves towards newness and conversion of life in all that separates us from God’s love. The scrutinies turn us towards life, freedom and salvation by reminding us of the saving love of God. They also “expose the deception of evil and sin for what they really are: robbers of true authentic life.” In a few weeks, we will be celebrating lots of sacraments. There are those who will be re-ceiving the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. Our sacraments are the life of the Church. They are the visible presence of God in our lives and in the life of the Church. We cannot take them for granted. Please pray for all those who will be receiving sacraments for the first time in the next few weeks, and pray for a renewed commitment for ourselves to the presence of God offered to us in the sacraments. In HIS Peace! Deacon Nicholas Danze

Stewardship
Stewardship of Gifts “I will be their God and they shall be my people.” Jeremiah 31:33
What does it mean to be God’s people? It means we rec-ognize that everything we have and everything we are belongs to God. We are not “owners” of anything, we are merely “Stewards” of the gifts God has given us. It means we are willing to use our gifts and our lives to care for our neighbors and the world, just as God cares for us.
Parish Information
Sacraments Pre-Baptismal Classes: As the primary educators of their child, the parents/guardians and godparents have the most important influence on the faith development of children and parishes must provide catechesis for them before their child is baptized. Notre Dame de la Mer Parish offers six Baptism Preparation Classes throughout the year. It is important for the expectant parents/guardians to arrange to attend a session 5 months before the birth and Baptism of the child. Contact the parish offices for more information. The next class is scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the parish office. Funerals: To be arranged with a priest and funeral director. Sacrament of the Sick: Anytime Marriage: Arrangements should be made one year in advance and prior to making reception plans.
Spanish Baptism Information Baptism: The Last Sunday of each month, at 7:00 PM at St. Ann Church. Pre-Jordan Classes: The Thursday prior to the celebration of Baptism at 7:00 PM in St. Ann Chapel. Bautismos en Espanol: Ultimo Domingo de cada mes a las 7:00 in Santa Ana. Clases Pre-Bautismales: El jueves anterior a la celebración del bautismo a las 7:00 pm en la iglesia de Santa Ana.
Parish Giving is a safe, secure, and easy way to make On-line parish and church related donations and payments. It is convenient and easy and offers you a variety of options. Please give it a try by going to our parish webpage www.notredamedelamer.org and clicking on the Parish Giving button.
Holy Thursday
Holy Thursday is the day on which Christ celebrated the Last Supper with His disciples, four days after His triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. Christ, during the last supper, reaffirmed a new commandment he gave His church. The Lord, “who came to serve and not to be served,” washes the feet of his disciples. During the Mass, we remember this charity and service by having our own foot washing ritual. We are in need of twelve disciples to get their feet washed. If you are willing to have your feet washed please contact Jonathan Delgado at the Parish Office (609) 522-2709 EXT 219.
Notre Dame de la Mer Parish welcomed our children preparing for Confirmation at the 10:30 Mass at St. Ann Church. Please remember to pray for these stu-dents, their families and sponsors. Confirmation will be celebrated by Bishop Sullivan on May 18, 5 p.m. Church of the Assumption.
