Our Parish Vision Notre Dame of Mount Carmel is a Roman Catholic
community of faith called to be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of bringing about the
Kingdom.
Our Parish Mission Formed by the Word, fed at the Table, and inspired by the Holy Spirit, we INVITE, WELCOME and GUIDE each
other into relationship with Christ, to GO OUT and MAKE missionary disciples.
PASSION
The contrast between the processional reading in today’s liturgy and the proclama on of the Passion is striking. We are given a glimpse of how profoundly the word of God is fulfilled in Jesus.
First he must be hailed as the Messiah, the One who is to come. He must be acknowledged by all, though they do not know what they are saying. They think he is the promised king, a worldly king of the Jews who will free them from the Roman occupa on. They do not yet understand, even the disciples, exactly where this triumphal procession is leading. In our lives, we too do not know where we are going. It is in faith that we can follow Christ wherever he may lead us, trus ng that death is not the end, nor evil the victor.
Every good relationship between two or more people, whether it is friendship, marriage, or community, creates space where strangers can enter and become friends. Good relationships are hospitable. When we enter into a home and feel warmly welcomed, we will soon realize that the love among those who live in that home is what makes that welcome possible.
When there is conflict in the home, the guest is soon forced to choose sides. "Are you for him or for her?" "Do you agree with them or with us?" "Do you like him more than you do me?" These questions prevent true hospitality - that is, an opportunity for the stranger to feel safe and discover his or her own gifts. Hospitality is more than an expression of love for the guest. It is also and foremost an expression of love between the hosts.

The program includes five weekly sessions, beginning Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 7:30 PM, each one focused on a different aspect of Confirma on teaching. Par cipants must be at least 21 years of age and have received the sacraments of Bap sm and First Eucharist. Confirma ons will be celebrated on Pentecost Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the 10:30am Mass.

P robably one of the biggest realiza ons I made in researching To Heal, Proclaim, and Teach is that the most successful parishes and ministries always have something to invite people to. They have what I call invitable events. These events can be retreats or small faith‐sharing groups. They can be adult faith forma on sessions. They can be liturgical experiences like Sta ons of the Cross or Eucharis c Adora on.
All of these experiences can shock people out of their ordinary lives. They can introduce par cipants into a new way of thinking and living. Most importantly, the people present welcome newcomers. That sense of welcoming shows that the parish is a community of mercy and support–a welcoming community.
The only way these inevitable events grow, however, is through
personal invita ons. That may seem redundant, but this is really important. Invitable events grow because individual people extend personal invita ons to others to join them.
Bulle n announcements, Facebook invites, and flyers in the back of the church are not enough. The experience has to be so great that people want to talk about it and invite their friends through personal, face‐to‐face conversa ons, text messages,
Facebook messages, emails, etc.
Whether someone accepts the invita on or not isn’t the point. The point is the invita on itself. Why?
Because . . .
WE A R E C U L T I V A T I N G G O O D S O I L ‐ With that invita on extended, a seed is ready for plan ng. You and your rela onship have cul vated some good soil. So many are ready to receive the grace of God. They are ready for the Sower to sow the seeds of faith so that their lives may be transformed and then, in turn, their families may be transformed.

others. May God con nue to push us to grow as his disciples. May He light a fire within us that will spread and be shared with countless others!

Thanks to your generosity, we collected 86 hams and $670 in cash donations, which were used by the
Interfaith Food Pantry (IFP) to assemble Easter Baskets for those in
need right here in Morris County.
